Official Talk Leica thread

Ooh very jealous! Trying to save for one the same at the moment. Not easy in today’s world though!
It was very second hand... No box and the old hood. Ffordes wouldn't take my daughter as PX so I could get a new one. Can't say I'm surprised.

Although now I have a real hankering to let go of my M3 and pick up a black MP. Retains the looks of the old, with a meter... Must... resist...

Hi, Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) in Wiesbaden-Biebrich/D (Leica M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Super Wide-Heliar 4,5/15 v3 f 4,5 crops; level gauge) :

(This Heliar performs quite well, I think. Even the crops are not embarrassing ... --- )

Haha, who cares, it's a Summicron ASPH.... age isn't everything :ROFLMAO:

I'd love an MP, but 'make do' with the M6! I'd love to shoot more film, if only I could get myself out of that instant gratification digital mind.

Hi, trying out lens codes (Leica M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Heliar classic 1,8/75 f 1,8) :

Code 1,4/75; 11814/11815/11810:

Code 2/75 asph. 11637 :

Code#1 looks a little softer to me. I stick with it.

I’ve coded my non-Leica lenses with a permanent marker.

I’m not so bothered about having (say) the 21 Elmarit profile on my Zeiss 21, I just like to be able to filter on FL in Lightroom

(Lightroom has dedicated lens profiles for my Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses anyway, although sometimes they do more harm than good!)

Have you found a permanent marker that actually stays on after a couple of lens changes? All the ones I've tried rub off very quickly.

well I did the voigtlander last june and the ziess last august and both still work (googling it today it might be that i’ve coded the zeiss to the wrong elmarit)

the pen I used was one that the mrs had lying round the office, she has several so I doubt i’ve used the same one on each lens

The leica code reader does seem temperamental.. my m9 reads my 7artisans 50 fine, but the m240 can’t read it And that lens has a machined and paint filled holes in the mount.

Hmm.. Lightroom is making up f number details... :/

it’s because leica records f number in the ‘incorrect’ place in the exif (iirc it’s in maker notes) so windows (and some raw software) doesn’t know where to find it.

LR knows where too look so it can show it

the f number is just a guess made by the camera based on ss/iso, the camera can’t know the true f stop

That would explain how the voigtlander 28mm f2 is set at f1.2 in lightroom/flickr

If you care enough.. you can use lens tagger plug in for lightroom or exif editor on the exported jpegs (or even the DNGs) to make changes

I have a hunch that if the camera knows the lens it won’t ever guess an aperture outside of the spec of the lens, but it’s just a hunch!

ooooooh I’m excited for you

what’s it like?

looking forward to your views and images with it

Hi, it's a wonderful compact lens. Not as heavy as my 35mm Distagon. Just played with it a little:

I shall show much more here in this thread, of course ... :)

I tried two lenshoods from my inventory. Both worked, but the second one is more Leica-like. It is a metal screw-in hood from China, not the original bayonet model from VOIGTLÄNDER ...

I was too stingy (Igel in der Tasche in German (hedgehog in the pocket)) to pay 117 €. A metal bayonet version from China will come soon. The same happened with the ZEISS Distagon.

The Apo-Lanthar seems to be quite a success in the marketplace. The first production batch is sold out ...

Hi, a late Christmas present ... (Leica M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Apo-Lanthar 2/50 f 2; crop):

(I was a little worried about the bokeh. The E-mount version is said to perform not well. And my Nokton 1,2/35 shows onion-rings.

I am happy with the result of the Apo-Lanthar. )

Hi, more Apo-Lanthar pics, post#1393 :

M6, 28mm Summicron. By God that's a lovely lens. Forum compression has killed it but I'm really amazed with the quality I can now get out of 35mm.

(The last f2 pic was taken at 1/250 sec, the f8 one at 1/24 sec. I shall try to find other pics to rule out the effects of exposure times.)
