Thanks Rich - I'll give it a go.
I've also heard liquorice is quite good (makes your teeth go black though).
Hi LindsayUgh, Mark, that sounds horrid. Is it diverticulosis? That is indeed debilitating from everything I've heard. I do hope you can do something to feel better. 22 loo visits is indeed a lot - when I have a bout I can get up to about 14 which is bad enough. Needless to say that does not do one's backside much good.
My problem has come back this week - triggered I think by a period of stress and tiredness. I'm struggling to travel and to stay on my feet for more than an hour or so - it also makes my back ache like hell. My stomach is churning, I feel sick, and I'm not sure whether to risk having any dinner or not. No fish and mash in the house at the moment but I might try half a bacon sandwich - they don't affect me too badly and are fairly comforting. Last three nights zero sleep so I am bad tempered as well. The whole thing almost kicked off a major road rage incident this morning when a guy started harassing me for not going fast enough and when his behaviour got too much I treated him to a stream of language I would never repeat here or anywhere else. Had he gone beyond that I'd have happily decked him. A decline in one's personality and communication skills is an unfortunate side-effect of these illnesses.
It's just awful how you feel isn't it?
I think this condition is so debilitating that unless you have suffered from something similar its hard to understand.
On a serious note, I think I may have sussed out what caused my last attack. I went through a phase of buying crumpets and lemon and raisin pancakes (mini ones). I suspect it was one of those 2 items, and my money is on the pancakes. Butt.....who knows for sure.
The lemon flavouring/content probably. And if you also smother them with butter .....
Can't you buy a tooth pick
Oooh nastyOh no, hang on..... you really should say where first
That's how I used to be I found that Isbaghol husk in yogurt helps the panic attacks of thisIve been tried and tested for everything, nothing found, cramps, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, everything, trouble is its not all the time, maybe get an attack for a couple of days maybe twice a month and sometimes there's zero warning, a severe pain then im afraid if im not within 30 seconds of a toilet its whoooosh, been caught out several times in public, not nice.
Sadly I would rather have them in my ear. When caught in pockets in your bowel they cause terrible pain for daysHow on earth do you get them in your EAR!
Last week after a recommendation I gave Fennell Tea a try, not one for all the weird and wonderful remedies, but it has definitely cut down the belching and bloating.
Have you given rapberry leaf or green tea a try too? IMO they both taste a lot more pleasant than fennel and I find them both really soothing for intestinal problemsI
Did try green tea, no help and to be honest much prefer the Fennel tea tastewise too, but thanks for the suggestion Sarah
There is no doubt about it that gastro intestinal issues some of the posters on here how they suffered.
I have had a real debilitating week at work so far yesterday was aloo visit record 22 visits each with some "production"
The gastro doctor said I have pockets in my bowel system that trap waste - boy does that hurt me.
Looking forward to five days fish and mash
Best wishes to all fellow sufferers
So sorry to hear that. I do hope my condition doesn't deteriorateI was diagnosed 2 years ago with Diverticular disease and subsequently had 2 hospital admissions because of it, diverticulitis is no fun.
My bowel perforated just after elective surgery and I suffered faecal peritonitis and I am still living with the consequences 9 months later. Slowly on the mend but I would advise (due to my own experience) that if you ever need/decide to have a resection I WOULD opt for a defunctioning ileostomy to be on the safe side.

Ive ordered some of the pysillium someone reccomended in this threadIt sound a bit like me Gary, they thought I may have Crohnes (right side pain in ilieum) but only done a half colonoscopy and they put it down to IBS for me as it's common thing to go with the Fibromyalgia I have.
I have had very severe pains lasting for upto 2.5hrs before movement then a explosion. The pain is so severe that I feel like crying and I seem to have flushes, it's not nice, as we all understand in this thread. I mentioned Lepricol in one of my previous posts and this helps a lot of IBS suffers, although I found no benefit. Maybe worth a try. > http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&...vptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_36ja1jqihe_b
Another thing which I forgot to mention earlier in thread is that my Dr also stated that prolonged use of lanzaporole can cause diarrhea, I changed to Omneprazole and I found some benefit. Regarding the Cramps I now take 80mgs of Buscopan dialy and this has helped with my cramps as I very rarely get the type I was experiencing before. I find this better now than the Meberverine I was taking previoulsy.
With constipation my last bout a few weeks ago when I went eight days without toilet and I find if I have a small but several doses over a few days of Lactulose it seems to help me to get back to normal (ish) within a few days.
I quit 7 years ago, worst thing ive ever done in my life, been racked with all sorts of illness since, weight issues, blood pressure, extra strain on joints, colds at regular intervals summer ow winter, i have been told that when youre activley smoking your immune system is on full alert but when you stop it goes to sleep for a while and leaves you wide openAnyone here got LPR (silent reflux)?
Got diagnosed with this last Friday after visiting the ENT specialist, can't take Omepazole or any of the other similar PPI's so think its diet change for me
Bloody nuisance and constant throat clearing is annoying for everyone, be glad to get this year out of the way, sickly mob aren't we
Haven't felt right since I packed up smoking six months ago, thought it was supposed to work wonders
It's the opposite for me - I have an over-active immune system so am on immuno-suppressants. Means I end up catching everything that goes around as well.I quit 7 years ago, worst thing ive ever done in my life, been racked with all sorts of illness since, weight issues, blood pressure, extra strain on joints, colds at regular intervals summer ow winter, i have been told that when youre activley smoking your immune system is on full alert but when you stop it goes to sleep for a while and leaves you wide open
Funny, my very first smoke on a morning used to send me scuttling to the bathroom, no sooner had i taken my first drag my guts started the pain and rumblesIt's the opposite for me - I have an over-active immune system so am on immuno-suppressants. There is also some evidence that suggests nicotine has some benefits for Crohn's/UC, though the disbenefits of smoking far outweigh what you would gain. Must admit that I have considered vaping to see if that helps...
My heartfelt commiserations to you all. My (ageing) mother has IBS (or something similar) and it rules her life. Doctors aren't that interested once it has been diagnosed.
I was once diagnosed with a debilitating condition but as it wasn't life-threatening I was left to my own devices. I was terrified! Luckily for me it's very much in the background nowadays.
So far theyre not doing a thing to helpIve ordered some of the pysillium someone reccomended in this thread
