Hi,

I have recently bought a Sigma 105mm DG OS HSM Macro for my wife to use with her Canon 760d. I also bought a Neewer TTL ring flash.

Using Aperture priority mode, without the flash fitted, I have the following:
1/8th speed
F9.0
ISO 800
(Settings are a bit random as I am experimenting indoors)

So I fit the ring flash, ensuring that the camera external flash is set to E-TTL in the menu and TTL on the flash. Half press the shutter and the shutter speed remains the same! I would expect it to be faster with the flash?! I just get blown out images.

So I tried removing the external flash and using the pop-up flash. Half press and again the settings remain the same!

Am I missing something obvious? Do I have a problem with the Sigma lens?

Apologies if I have missed out some info but If someone has any ideas I can answer their questions.

Really hope someone has an idea.

E-TTL and TTL are not the same thing.

Your camera should be set to either 1/250 th ot 1/125 for Flash syncronisation, it slips my mind which one it is on Canon kit but I'm sure someone will be along soon to remind me. You need to be in tv mode and set the speed manually.

Am I missing something obvious?
Maybe. I In aperture priority mode, Canon cameras meter the subject on the expectation that the flash is just for fill-in.
