Simon's 52 in 2022

Many years ago I got down to a 6 Handicap when playing golf, it did help that I worked on a golf club though. Nice shiny balls, but my only crit is a shame the BG was not all the same colour.

Thanks Dave...
I'm currently off 24.1 - pretty sure I'll never get to single figures - teens would be good! Fair point re background - really struggling to find a way to get a decent clean BG in this house!

Looks like a load of b... oh wait...
Won't be long before they're lying in woods and lakes.....
Yep. This was my problem too!

The blue is gorgeous, nice detail and composition too. I agree with Dave about the background, product shot style, but it's pain to do around the house.

Nice one. Someone onece defined golf as a game using two balls. The object of the game being to hit the small one very hard whilst leaving the big one intact :)

Bu99er! I was going to shoot almost exactly the same thing! Only problem is that I don't have any new balls, only ones that have already been lost by other players. In fact, I have a stock of prize balls for others in the small group I play with inscribed with "Lost by an (group nickname) winner". The winner of such a sleeve has to play with the 3 balls for as long as it takes to lose them; usually a week or 2 at most!

Gives me something to aim for.

Ditto on the background. I did worry about the big black line running down the middle then realised it was a mark on my monitor ;)

Ah…these were a Christmas present. They aren’t going anywhere until the courses start drying out. I’ve got a massive bucket of “found” balls that will have to do for the moment, but they still disappear at an alarming rate!

My first thought when I saw this picture was that I wonder how long it will take to lose them! I have the same trouble as you trying to find a clean background in the house! Lovely shot!

Used to find hundred on the Wentworth course when I was a lad, they don't stay new long.

I like the blue especially the number on the ball is also blue. Nice fresh look and in focus.

Nice shot Simon, hopefully they don't stay white for very long.

You caught the electric blue of the Srixon box, not easy.

I like the shot. A couple of suggestions - I think the background larger box lid would be better at an angle. I'm no specialist at product shots but a few years ago a friend asked me to take some product shots of badminton shuttles - I bought a huge board from B&Q which was white on one side. I laid that on the floor, shot with a flash near the subject and let the board kind of tail off into darkness in the background - it was one way of avoiding a clear fold in the backdrop.

Week 2 - Old

A wander down to a local Church - St Cadocs in Barry for some shots around the "old" graveyard.

This is my chosen shot, although I like the slightly different colour version too. It was tricky to crop and still not ideal as too much other clutter in the way. Even then I had to clone out a couple of stray objects.

The second is my colour shot of the same, slightly wider. I like the colours in this, but the grey of the house wall at the back, and the sun on the wall to the right detract from the overall image. Again, could have played with a tighter crop.
Edit: Image now more tightly cropped and slight vignette applied

The thirds shot took my eye as the two gravestones were leaning against each other - I've no idea if they are of the same family, as there's no writing left visible on the left hand one, but it looks almost tender.

Tough choice. I like the way the light is catching the bench in the second and maybe a tighter crop of the RHS is worth trying.

Such poignancy, great to be able to see the shot. Shame about the wall behind, but that's how it is. Maybe a tighter crop on the right in the colour shot to reduce the impact of the light wall
