Last spring when I was in Sheffield and using a Nikon F for street work, I came across two guys doing exactly the same thing as in your picture. We had a good chat (and they had a good laugh at my 'museum piece') - They were videoing the opening sequences for Sky Competion Boxing as Carl Froch was about to box (I can't remember what the series was called but others will know).
They actually filmed the fight for broadcast using the same gear and said how grateful they were not to be lugging round the old gear. Nice guys, one from NYC and the other from Vegas IIRC. As we parted they dropped the line that they were filming in Denmark the next day and then on to....

With that hat and the tape, I'd say he knows exactly what he's doing
But yes, your right, it does look at an angle, could just be the heat after a long shoot in the sun
