Studio Build Thread

Yes jim, I believe it's now Elizabeth Cox hairdressing.

I knew it had been a photographers but didn't realise it was Norma-Anne.

We're very happy with the unit, location and size wise. It's a busy street.

We know the unit was looked at by another local photographer!

Yes a busy street and junction and fairly central. I went to school with an Elizabeth Cox - wonder if it's the same one lol :)

The thread is excellent and you have an amazing space there. I'm stuck with a tiny living room :( Takes guts to make the commitment you guys have and I just lack the bottle!

Apple Glasgow [ ie Buchanan Street ] has a business section - so should be able to help.

Things are going pretty well. 4000 reclaimed bricks sourced and should be getting picked up tomorrow. I will be learning to brickie as well as plaster!

I am currently averaging between 110-120hrs a week between the unit and my current job. I can barely string a sentence together these days!

Love the curve in studio 1, great work

but couldn't it be wider? It looks like it's 15' and I'd guess a few more would be nice (it goes without saying that we'd all love to have that space).

Not where it is Mike, There are 2 other studios, one 5.5m wide with a curve and another 6mx6m cove.

This is narrower to fit in with the lines in the building, It is a big space but it is long and narrow (relatively).

I can for see this studio being used for 1/2 kids max, head shots and newborns.

Cool, I'll just continue with envy then

Looks fantastic :)

Subscribed and watching with interest - good luck with build any idea when you'll be open?

We are hoping to be up a running for the tail end of April.

Will be able to get started with painting and stuff this week. Still have this monster of a wall to build though........

After Giving myself concussion (not on site) on saturday I haven't been about much. We enlisted the services of a plasterer to do all the taping and filling so far, We are hoping to get an undercoat of paint on the walls this week.

We have picked up about 1000 of our reclaimed bricks - 3000 more to come. The will be getting a heavy duty pressure washing and hopefully this will clear the mortar and soot that has accumulated on them over the last 100 years! They are - so far - mostly Kersland bricks which hailed for Dalry in Ayrshire and have been part of a chimney stack somewhere in Glasgow for the last 100 odd years. I kinda like knowing the history of them. They are perhaps more of an orange-er brick than a deep red.

Some more wiring and stuff has been done but the joiner has been off the last week so work starts again flat out on friday!

Matts got the cameras so no photos this week

Progress carries on both slow and fast depending on how your looking at it.

The main body of the studio is in place structurally a white undercoat of paint is going on in places, Electrics and lighting are getting slotted in. Some of the trickier joinery jobs are getting done. We can now see the shape of the place.

Still loads to do . The feature wall needs built. we have 100 bricks onsite and we'll be collecting more tomorrow. The need a good power wash but will come up in some awesome colours!

Stairs to office are in

On the other hand I've spent the day in my bed after being sick all morning, might be a stress thing.....

Many years in the future they will be reports of a body found behind a bricked up doorway in a photography studio.
