The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

It occurred to me that the camera is released in March, close to the tax year so people can decide whether to get it in March or April...

Thanks to covid, This tax year my income is probably less than £3000 so it would be a waste to get the cameras in March....

I watched this video.
He clearly hated Sony, Very critical and negative.
But he is well known for shifting his opinions.
Also worth to check the comments under the video :)

And R5 - 8 stop IBIS ?

8 stop when you add a lens with IBIS in as well, combined i think.

I don't pay attention to Youtuber's opinion, look at the numbers and make your own mind up. Tony and his wife swaps cameras more often than I change socks. She went from Nikon D850 to Sony A7R4 to Canon R5 in the space of 18months and now could go back to Sony A1? No photographer who's business is taking photos would do that. That is an absurd amount of money thrown away.

They are YouTubers, swapping and having the latest gear is their job, they can monetise the experience.

I on the verge of getting an A7C but the A7R iv has also caught my eye, as has the R6 but it has a few issues of concern, but I'm wondering if the A7R iv is worth going for over the smaller sized A7C and will I need outstanding optics to make use of the mahoosive pixel count?
According to some on here I'm not using great glass on my A7RIV but I'm very happy with the results.
I would not touch anything purchased outside the UK now thanks to Brexit
I've just had a bit of 'drama' with a handbag I've just bought for my wife's Birthday which came from Italy even though I ordered from a UK site, fortunately they're a big 'proper' company and import duties were already paid, however there's lots of stories of people buying stuff and then having to pay high import fees before they release the item.

Brexit shouldn't make any difference to ordering from Asia though I wouldn't have thought.
This was my first car. It was unintentional though.

This is my first car, with a much slimmer version of me  Ex cop car, Escort 1.3 popular 4 speed.

I bet the insurance was more than my first car  Unless you were in your 30's when you got it ;)

certainly enjoying my 30s as far as car insurance goes
I was really chuffed with myself when I managed to get my Mot, insurance and road tax to all be due in the same month only to regret it later on because of the massive bill in one month :(

Aye, it was strange dropping the VW ID3 and then Polestar 2 and eventually going for a Tesla Model 3.
I don't think I could ever go back to a fossil fuel car now....

Strong list there Riz, some nice cars.

Pretty sure these are all my daily drivers since I first started driving, although have probably missed a few out. My missus says I change my car like other people change their socks. :ROFLMAO:

BMW X5 MSport
BMW E90 320D MSport
Honda Civic 1.8
BMW E90 320D MSport
At the moment I have a Skoda Octavia VRS and an Audi TT MK1.

I have a bit of a personality disorder in that I have always liked to collect things and at one point a few years back what I liked to collect was cheapish classic cars. I ended up having to rent a yard for storage as the neighbours were giving off about all of the cars. I ended up selling them all off as it had started to get about out of hand and we used the money for traveling. Have been able to resist the urge to collect anything else since.

Had all of these in the lock up at the yard at one point and there was quite a few others that came and went over that period as well.

Vauxhall Nova 1.4 SR
Ford Capri 2.8i
Ford Capri 1600 GT
Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTI
Morris Minor Van
Austin Healey Sprite
BMW E30 325i Sport
Honda Integra Type R DC2
Nissan Bluebird 1.8GS

Of them all the only car I regret selling was the Honda Prelude, really wish I had of kept that car its impossible to find a good one now and that one was literally like a brand new car. I have tried to buy it back twice unsuccessfully. It has gone to Scotland now so unlikely to get a third chance.

I know.... it was DTUK tuned to 200hp if that's any consolation lol.

Still a tractor...how does one go from a R32 to a Astra Diesel?

I'm having a last "hurrah" of a fossil fuel before the inevitable move to electric.

I have only have/had 2 cars.

1 - Toyota Yaris SR - 1.8L
2 - Volvo C30 T5

Love the sound of a 5 pot.

Ah, history.

60s Hillman imp
Hillman Avenger
Ford Cortina MkII
Triumph Spitfire MkIII
Citroen GSA
Talbot Alpine
Cavalier MkII
3 X Citroen CXs
Seat Panda
2 X Citroen Deux Chevaux
Citroen BX diesel estate
2 X Peugeot 406
Pug 307
Beetle Convertible
Mini Countryman & SD convertible
Skoda Karoq

Some of the time we ran 2 cars, which makes the list seem a little longer than it might.

Favourites were the Imp, Spitfire, CX GT, Countryman. Most hated was the GSA.

Edit - forgot Citroen AX and Pug 205 as well.

Seems that Digital Rev are the first grey company to have a price for the A1 AT £5249.99

My first car was a used white Mini 1000, reg RDC810R.
Next was a new russet brown Mini 1000 which I later had a vinyl roof fitted too.
Next was my first open car, rubber bumper MG Midget.
Lotus Elan SE.
New Lotus Elise.
MGB Roadster.
New MX5 MK1.
New SLK 230.
New MX5 MK2.
New Boxter 2.7. I had ordered the 2.5 but it came so long to come they'd changed to the 2.7.
Used 4.0 S Type Jag.
Used MX5. I don't like the new ones so I looked for a MK1 but couldn't find a nice one so went for a MK2.
Plus my mam gave me her Getz when she gave up driving.

I wouldn't be the first to risk it with the current import/vat/handling fees

How has the situation changed regarding digital rev for example in Hong Kong.
The only area of concern is that a lot of companies imported via hubs based in the EU.
However surely that's an incidental part of the carrier network they are passing through the EU not being imported then sold on.

Have no idea, digital rev have always declared at real value so often get hit with custom fees were as Panamoz and e-infin lie and say that cameras etc are toy parts and declare equipment at less than £30 usually to avoid custom fees.

Ford fiesta( lasted about 12 month's before one take traveling to uni on the North circular, massive amount of smoke started to appear from the vents, followed by the car slowly losing speed lol
Nissan micra
Nissan micra(first one got totally wrecked and written off
Audi a3 kitted up(treated myself with a proper car)

The rumor guy has posted possible A7IV specs shared by the source who gave correct A1 info.

"Sony A7IV specs:

  • A74 will have a new sensor with faster readout and will not recycle the 24 MP one. My source told me it will be in the 30-32 MP region
  • The EVF will have 3,69 Mdots and not 5,76 Mdots
  • Most probably the LCD will also be on the cheap side but the image quality and AF will be top notch
  • The video will certainly be 4K 60p and will feature the new menus.
  • The price will be in the $2499 region"

Does this look good for the A7IV?

No word on menus or if the screen is fully articulated or tilting.

I think these cameras are drifting out of my reach. I think the A7 and kit lens was in the region of £1,700 or something like that but this new A7IV looks to be out of my range as I can't really see myself spending £2k+ on a camera. I suppose I may feel differently if and when my A7 dies but at the mo that looks a bit much.

Another rumor site has a couple of A1 sample pictures...

Cars..... Not many at all....

Mk1 Escort 1100 base to 1340cc
Mk1 Escort 1300L to GT to 1340 x-flow to 1690 to 2.1 pinto - which it is now!
SEAT Toledo SE
Ford Focus Zetec

If you include 'joint/family' cars with the ex wife then add in.....

Orion 1600 ghia
XR3i
Mk1 Golf
above SEAT Toledo SE (I took this over when she bought a Zafira and I took the Escort off the road to restore)

Paid £50 for my first one.

How long did you keep it?

I had this debate with myself, should I get a cheap one being my first car? With all the risks of an old car? Or should I get a newer more reliable (on paper).

I opted for the Toyota, had it 6 years, don't regret it really as it was reliable and I needed to drive to wedding venues etc. I didn't need a car otherwise.

My BIL had a Honda scooter and then moved on to Reliants as as far as I remember you could drive them on a bike licence, he took me out for extra driving lessons in them. I never fancied owning one though. He moved on when he got a car licence.

Happy days :D

I bought my own apartment in 2005 and was finding that the Golf R32 was drinking more than I did, it had to go due to running costs! lol
It was a good move in the end as I managed to pick up another which at the time was the best example available with less than 1500 miles on the clock, fully loaded 3dr and 5 years old.

I wonder if it will be 10-bit 4:2:2 or would that risk hurting the A7S iii?

I might be tempted by that, especially if it was actually more like £2K
Two niggles with A7iii are non articulated screen, gritty EVF (and cumbersome menu maybe?)
Also the autofocus while good is now a bit dated even my ZV-1 is better in video AFC/eye focus

6 months, then sold it for £50. An Austin A35. This was back in 1970.
