The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I find that I am defaulting to ‘M’ which is probably no bad thing if I want to improve!

But as you say if it just feels wrong life’s too short to force it, particularly as the XT5 will likely deliver what you want in a familiar package.

XH2 arrived on Monday, finally unboxed it last night. First impression is yuk. Not liking PASM at all and it feels very unintuitive at first play. Three years of dials has done this to me! I’ll have a play over the next few days but I’m already feeling a return is going to happen
If it doesnt really work for you then you need an XT5.
I have the XH2 and XH2S and am slowly getting used to the PASM dial and the new stuff but I am looking forward to getting the XT5 next week as I prefer the XT3 control interface.

I do think it is horses for courses but it is also dependent on personal workstyles so if it doesnt work for you the XT5 will be here soon.

You're approaching @trevorbray levels of camera ownership

Ouch  :$
Hope it heals well, and doesn`t hinder you too much in the mean time.

I'm waiting on an e-infinity repair (of a X-mount lens) before giving them any more money.

Looks like £1000 gets a private sale for the X-T4, a bit more from MPB/etc and £1200+ at Fuji refurb. I should probably wait until a few more people are unloading after upgrading to the 5 - prices should soften a bit.
I think Fuji refurb products are near enough brand new.

I LOVE the ergonomics as I have large hands and always had an added grip on my XTs, it’s the PASM I can’t get my head around. I’m sinuses to adjusting iso and shutter speed as I go manually that I’m really struggling with the one dial
I know where you are coming from Nick and it took me a while to get used to the PASM dial with my little X-S10. But I did get used to it and suprised myself that I could switch twixt X-H1/X-T4 without a second thought. When I bought the X-H2S it became second nature and the C1-C7 modes made life so much easier for me. The X-H1 was sold to offset an X-H2 but I kept the X-T4 and did think about trading it for an X-T5.

But on balance I will stick with the X-H's, the fantastic EVF and the amazing buffer clearance using CFExpress cards are two of the many additional features over the X-T5 that I really appreciate. One stab at a first impression though and an X-T5 will probably meet your requirements better.

Cheers.

Pretty limiting right now as arm basically locked at the elbow.
Relatively short ‘healing’ period of 3-6wks all being well
Well 3-6wks isn`t too bad I guess. Plus it`ll get you out of Christmas chores ;)

Fingers crossed, mate (y)

My X100f arrived! YaY! And the EVF seems to work! YaY!

But I'm currently tearing my hair out trying to save custom settings. I've read the manual, I'm pressing the buttons just like it says and it just wont save them. I'll keep at it.

Ah. I was trying to save face detect to a custom mode but found a thread on DPR which says it's not possible so I assigned it to a back button.

You will get used to it, it's a great little camera. I was involved in the original launch... love the panos and film simulation options.

Mate. Unlike you I tend to sell off anything not being used.
I am trying to achieve that level of zen but my Nikon kit keeps me from having a really meaningful clear out. My Nikon lenses work very well on my Fuji bodies either witha simple adapter or my Fringer adapter.

I’m just as keen (EDIT - nearly!) for those who’ve ordered the XT5 to arrive, looking forward to hearing what you think. I know Emily Endean loves it (she had a prototype) and it was her ‘fault’ that I got the XT3 in the first case - ABSOLUTELY no regrets!!

Of course I don’t need the new one as still love the 3…

BTW I am thinking of getting a wider lens than the 16-80. The 10-24 has been out a long time so wondering if it is awesome or do you think this may get an upgrade?

Re:10-24 a- It’s already had an upgrade!! - the latest version has WR

I'll let you know, when I get mine :)

As for wide... I'm interested in the 8mm f3. 5 (due next year though), and not a fisheye ;)

Went to the HOP again today to play with the XH-2S and I still can’t get on with the ergonomics, just something about the grip, I find it so uncomfortable. It’s not the size because the larger GFX bodies are fine (for me). They had the XT-5 there, lovely piece of engineering, looks stunning and felt lovely.

Sorry mate, got my hands on the fish and chips while you’ve still only got the gherkin and onion, I did tell them Paulie is starving lol

Lol cheers, mate.
I do hope we don`t have the delay reported over on Fuji rumours. Although it only seems to be Japan at the moment.

I left Fuji when they categorically stated they wouldn't produce a camera with IBIS, then they did.
Seriously thinking about returning with the X-T5, doesn't look that different body wise to the X-T1 I had.
Would mean cashing in my m4/3 gear and probably need new PC hardware/software to process 40mp files.
Big change financially now i've retired and cash isn't as plentiful compared to working times.

I'll wait and see what the owner reviews are like, but it has certainly piqued my interest.
Daresay some new lenses have appeared since I sold my previous selection.
I liked my 14mm and 10-24, probably get the 16-55 this time now the body is stabilised.
Any other recommendations, I don't do wildlife or sports, mainly travel architecture, transport and landscapes.

16-55 is a heavy beast for a walkabout lens, optically it’s nice but certainly not lightweight - looks like there is a new F2.8 zoom coming from Sigma - not quite such a large focal range (18-50??) but a lot smaller package

All the F2s are great very small and portable well priced and WR would match well a stabilised body.

Love the 90mm I got from the classifieds here but it is a rather specialised focal length.

I found the 18-55 to be not wide enough and luckily had an excellent XC 16-50 which I used a lot.
My current walkaround travel lens is an Olympus 12-100 which is also rather weighty so the 16-55 may be ok?

You'll be surprised where you can use the 90mm. Trev has my old one, but it was great when used with my close focus tubes, as well as shots of flowers etc. It's more than a portrait lens (but it's bloody good for head shots).

I'm the same, I don't think 18mm is quite wide enough so I use 16-55 on an X-T2, it weighs 3lb and TBH I don't think that is too heavy even all day.

I will most likely buy the X-T5 next week, I may as well get the kit lens, but with which one? The two options are

Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f2.8-4 R LM OIS Lens or the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f4 R OIS WR Lens

Any thought guys?

Hi Jak, for me between those 2 it would be the 16-80. Although the 18-55 is a nice lens and slightly faster (for some of the renge) 16mm at the wide end wins every time for me. I did think about swapping my 16-55 for the 16-80 when it came out but in the end didn't, I'm just used to that big old 16-55. My friend @jknights has both and uses the 16-80 more than the 16-55, each to their own.

I'm a bit surprised its heavier than my 12-100 admittedly not by much.
Also interested in the 16/1.4, would want weather resistant lenses so glad to see there is a WR 10-24 now

Hi Jak, as I don't use zooms anymore I think I still have a brand new XF18-55mm f2.8-4 R LM OIS in the box it came in. It came as a kit so the box it would go in is NOT an original Fuji box at all.

If you get T5 and are ok with used. I’ve a 16f1.4 I’d be happy to let go. Tag me if you’re interested and I’ll pop it in the Classifieds.

I bought the 16-80 with my kit as I take quite a few landscapes so needed the wider lens - I really love this lens as I find it so handy as my travel lens too and use all from the lengths of 16 and up to the 80mm as much as each other (although I now love my 70-300 even more...). For lower light I got the Viltrox lenses at 1.8 aperture which I find handy when needed.
