or perhaps the resultant image would be too noisy in the EVF in low light conditions?
Good theory! It could well be exactly that. The EVF might be compensating in low light and the half press then shows you what you the lens actually sees. I did bang up the ISO in my tests though - and that didn't make a difference. I will return to experimenting and try to figure it out. Will report results back here. Thanks for some ideas to investigate
