The "fine time piece" owners thread.

Bill is there not a big waiting list on the Black Bay GMT? Saw a video saying between a year and 2 years waiting list. Tudor dont normally have this sort of waiting times unlike their big brother. I could get a 10-15% discount if i needed it which is nice so will have a think but still looking for a more dress watch for now.

I have not seen any used Tudor GMT's for sale on the Forum Mark
Not sure about the waiting list
eBay is a good guide to see it there are any immediately available ........if they are in short supply they may follow the current new Rolex pattern of selling at a premium by these internet watch sites/sellers

They are attractive watches

Im thinking of buying another watch, this time im wanting something plain, simple, classic and be very legible in most conditions. Im not wanting to spend big money this time. I have my Bremont which is a pilot type so something different from that. So far i have saw a couple by Nomos and Stowa. Anyone got anything from either these companys, how do you rate them. It wont be an investment watch so something i can happily wear and not bother much. Cheers.

I have a couple of Stowa watches, admittedly not the Bauhaus style ones - I have both a standard A-Dial and the Flieger Chrono - and I really do think they are well finished and just lovely watches all round. The heat blued hands are mesmerising. Their customer service is also brilliant.

I went into Glasgow today to view all the luxury watch shops in the Argyle Arcade. It has made me realise I’m just not sure what I want. What I did see and my wife wants to buy me it is the below watch. It’s stunning in real life, it’s a very subtle green and less green than in the picture. It felt great on the wrist, I loved how the bracelet followed the lug shape. This is a high possibility even if it’s more than I originally wanted to spend- need to do more research first.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Métrographe

Mark
one listed yesterday on TZ - used, vgc, but on a leather strap - asking was £5,500 as a trade value - the owner wanted a swop for a Rolex, Omega (preferably SpeedyTuesday), Glashutte Original, Jaeger leCoultre and VC

i've never heard of the watch, but here is the actual advertised watch - new May 2015 so still maybe a couple of months of warranty left

A dot for a date, what's all that about?

It looks a wee bit bland to me but each to their own.

Easy to tell the date even as a dot. Lol it is stunningly made and just feels great on the wrist. The bracelet is a work of art on this watch. As you say not everyone likes the same thing and this really hit the mark for me as it was a bit different to all the IWC, Rolex,Omega etc etc that I was seeing all day.

Thanks Bill, I signed up yesterday for a look around on TZ but can’t see any sales until I start getting my post count up. I think I have the one I linked to in mind but that one you posted makes me think more about what I could save if I wanted to. The warranty is 2 years on that watch so would have run out by now.

It won't take long for you to build up your post count Mark, and their are guys on the Forum who can or know specialists who can service watches which are far less expensive than the Main Dealers

If I see any in the meantime I'll let you know

Good luck

Looks good (y) did you see JLCs? These are my favorite - they are known as “the watchmakers’ watchmaker” and quite reasonably priced, certainly in comparison with PP.

Well that didnt go to plan. Went to get a last view at some watches as i narrowed it down to 2 watches. The Parmigiani Tonda Metrographe and an IWC Ingenuer- both had been narrowed down after a long search. I ended up picking a Zenith Defy EL Primero 21 with the titanium bracelet( not what i went in looking for. Lol). I had looked and read about them in the past and just loved it when i tried it on. Not everyones taste with it being a skeleton but some fantastic engineering and build quality.

image.jpg Just found this thread, here’s one of mine, my McQueen Monaco. I have it on an Eluit strap from Germany in blue, keeps the Oe leather strap in tip top condition.

wow some lovely watches on this thread and its got me thinking about getting one. but my budget is considerably less compared to some examples on display hear probably 300-600 hundred pounds.
i have seen a few watches i like prefer the oversize ones prefarably automatic numbers on the dial with a bit of the movement showing.what im trying to work out are what are the best brands around that price range
i would also consider pre owned aswell.

hopefully some one could give me some ideas

thanks

Your best bet is to look at some of the Seiko Automatics which are Japanese and arguably as good and accurate as a Swiss auto movement without the inflated price which may fit the criteria and come in around the £150-300 mark.

If your after Swiss you can’t go wrong looking at Steinhart watches.

I'd put a photo of my usual watch here, but instead I'll just say that holding a Greubel Forsey puts almost all other watches into perspective.

Chris ward are excellent value for money. Swiss movement and great build quality.

Had to google them, sorry, style not for me, at that money I know of a nice Patek Phillipe petpetual calender that would do the trick.

I paid a visit to the CW showroom on Wednesday...
Is that the funny little building next to the Job Centre in Maidenhead, with grilles in the windows and nothing to indicate what it is? A couple of years ago I had to deliver some gear there - tripods, macro lenses, etc - for their photographer. I was sworn to secrecy. Funny to think that it's now a "showroom"!

(But unfortunately I don't have any CW watches. Yet.)

It is indeed! A lovely building in a very odd location without anything surrounding it to suggest it should even really be there.

May sound crazy but worth having a look at pawnbrokers and also police auctions.

I have a CW trident c60 with an orange bezel and a Steinhart Ocean one with the ceramic bezel. Both excellent watches. The Steinhart has an ETA movement, so pretty high end stuff. Not sure on the CW movement off the top of my head.
The newer CW don’t do it for me though, the new logo is too modern, much prefer the older style.

I tend to switch between those two and my Oris TT1 as my daily drivers, although I have just bought a Samsung gear s3 frontier which is actually pretty darn nice. Feels just like a “proper watch” and is very well made.

I'm down to 4 watches now and am comfortable with that. I have:

Panerai 312
Omega Planet Ocean 46 Liquid Metal (Blue)
Seiko Shogun
Seiko 6309

See, that does noting for me at all, but as with all things, it is each to their own. I'm more of a diver watch fan, so maybe that explains it.
