The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Just bought a refurb XF1 and noticing that although the manual says the LED on the charger should be on when charging, off when fully charged mine seems to be on all the time and goes from orange when battery first inserted (so presumably charging) to green which I must assume means charged. Is this normal?

Hi, Maybe you have a later model charger, my wifes charger works as the manual says. On when charging, Off when charged, as do the chargers for my X20 & X-E1.

Hope this helps.

Hi I have saved for ages and about to purchase a x10, I am thinking about getting it from uk digital cameras or digital rev, the price difference is about £30 in digital revs favour, but I have to take into account that it is coming from overseas with digital rev, can anyone suggest which company to purchase from??

I have no reservations about recommending Digital Rev... My X20 came from them in under 3 days and I tracked it the whole way here from Hong Kong. (y)

Same here, I ordered a lens for my Fuji kit during the August bank holiday weekend from DR. It was picked up from them just after midday on bank holiday Monday and I received it here in Weat Wales before midday on the Tuesday! Now that's what I call service!

Your other option is the Fuji refurb shop. Their prices are worth checking and there's a code floating around somewhere for another 10%

They (refurb shop) seem to have dropped the X10 but they have the X20 which is £400 less £40, with code, so net £360 + delivery & DigitalRev is £329. There has been threads on DigitalRev's poor after sales service with their guarantee so I may feel it better to get a refurb but??????? I say this as someone who has bought 2 cameras from DR, over the past year, but not sure next time what I would do

Thanks wibbly and daydreamer.

I am second guessing now based on your comments daydreamer, but will pull the trigger on an x 10 just need to decide where still!!lol

The X20's just as good at off-camera flash work as it's older brother is/was...

Here's my little girl trying to decide whether to play with Peppa or George. :)
I used a Canon 430EXII and a 580EXII triggered by a Yong Nuo RF602.

Anyone have a recommendation of a third party battery for the X10/XF1?

Seeing lots for £2-3 but a bit wary of them being so cheap. Also lots listed as 3.7v where the genuine ones are 3.6v I beleive. I know more mAh is better but surely more voltage isn't a good idea???

Dear "Brianwar",

I shouldn't worry about a listed nominal voltage of 3.7. I've just checked the standard Fuji NP-50 that came with the X10, and although it has been charged but unused for weeks, it shows 4.13!

I bought a pair of aftermarket batteries from this source last December:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-New-Ba...91?pt=UK_Camera_Batteries&hash=item35bdf38553

One was a dud, but replaced without quibble, and without the need to return it. The batteries seemed to take a long time to 'run in', but appear to hold charge better than the original, although not in proportion to the claimed 1500 mAh I think.

At a neighbour's wedding last week, I took a minimum of 273 shots with the X10 without needing to replace the aftermarket battery. I've no idea if this is good - I've never before taken so many shots in a day with any camera!

Oh, and by the way, I've just recharged that battery, and it shows 4.14V.

Hope this might help.

Pete

I suggest not buying so cheap battery. I did it and bought 2. One of them is ok. Other one lasts only 60-70 shots. It's hit and miss. After that I purchased well known third party from Hahnel for my both cameras and they are excellent.

Just a quick update! I have taken delivery of my x10 from digital rev, I am very happy and will now spend the next 2/3 weeks reading how to use this baby!! Hate reading manuals but I figure this is a must to achieve cracking shots. Thanks everyone for the input!!!

They look good, well, worth a punt anyway. Cheers for the link.

I can't find Hahnel versions for a sensible price.

With these NP50s it seems that the choices on ebay are super cheap unbranded ones or slightly less cheap 'genuine' ones that are most likely fake. If I look at WEX etc - ie somewhere I know will be selling genuine genuine batteries the price is a lot higher. The only branded 3rd party ones I've found are Energizer for about the same price as a genuine Fuji from WEX or the Hahnel for even more.

Greetings all “X” user boys and galls, an update on my tale of wow from two weeks ago.

I packed my “X 10” and sent it of to Fuji; they sent me an email with a quote of £123.46. I considered this to be out of the bounds of reality as it was going on towards half the price of a replacement, so I declined and asked to be advised as to the return of my camera.

The next morning I get a written paper quote in the mail. I go online to see if they had replied to my email, on looking at the online quote I notice an upgrade option to an “X20” for £389.98 that seemed a good deal so I continued to purchase, a glitch would not allow the transaction.

On phoning the repair centre, I was told to delete my cookies and try again, this I did, no change, apologies from Fuji, they will get back to me, they didn’t.

Today the same glitch stops my purchase. On ringing, the centre a nice chap by the name of Albert gets me sorted with a discount code. I have now let the “X10” go to the recycler in the sky.
I await the arrival of a new “X20”. If it is only half as good as the “X10”, “ittal do me Tommy”.

£125 quid to repair a shutter release button? Is it the cost of parts or is it labour costs?
I would have upgraded eventually anyway, but kept the “X10”. Arh well onward and upward.

Rhodese.

Labour ain't cheap, especially highly trained labour in a fairly specialised field!

If it's any consolation, you'll definitely enjoy using the X20... I wasn't convinced that it was much of an upgrade initially but I've changed my mind since! :D

I took my X10 to the big city a couple of weeks ago on a visit to the British Museum. I even tried a bit of street photography.
Overall I'm very happy with the little chap and find I'm leaving the G3 at home more and more.
Here are some of the pics.

A panoramic of the museum, sorry about the funny looking people, couldn't stop them moving

What's the script with Lightroom and these Fuji RAW files then?

I'm using LR3 just now and it doesn't like them. I can't upgrade to LR5 without upgrading my OS to at least OSX10.7 (currently on 10.6.8).

I could run LR4 and could seemingly purchase it for around £20. I wouldn't mind this since my LR3 isn't exactly 'legit' but will it recognise the RAW files?

At the moment I'm using Silkypix to convert to Tiff then importing these to LR. Silkypix seems really slow, I was going straight from the card through Silkypix and to a folder on the desktop though, would I be quicker dragging the Raws to the desktop first then going through Silkypix?

I can also import through Photomechanic but I shoot my RAWs in b&w mode and somehow Photomechanic manages to import a b&w RAW file when I use it.

Hi, I had similar problems with RAW files from both my X-E1 & X20 when using Lightroom 3, It didn't like them one bit, It didn't even like them after they had been converted to DNG.

After upgrading to Lightroom 4 the problem had gone. It also produces DNG files with no loss of quality and of course a reduction in file size. Also if converting to DNG the exif file etc is included as a sidecar file. With the original RAW file it remains seperate.

Hope this helps.

I've taken to getting the best of the pans my baby Xs turn out printed at 24" wide. I've had a couple of frames made up for 120 and 180 degree pans and will be swapping the prints round as and when we get bored of them. I also have one taped to the door of the conservatory - that one's a vertical pan so looks a bit odd on the wall where the frames live!
To save a penny or 2 when getting them printed, I stick them on a single blank image 24" wide and however long the image needs to be - the first batch came back at 84" long! Luckily the shop who do the printing for me do them for a very good price (but I do spend a few bob in there on kit!)

What improvements have you noticed Si? I think I've almost convinced myself to sell the X10 for an X20 but I'm not quite there yet!

This is the little chap who bit my finger 10 days ago.
He kept away until it healed.

I guess that one of the primary improvements for me is the inclusion of information in the viewfinder... I hate using screens on cameras so having that (albeit basic) information is useful to me.

It also looks better! ;)

I was out shooting a sunset last night with my 5DMKIII and 17-40 when this yacht appeared on the horizon. I didn't have enough reach to catch it properly so I grabbed the X20... This shot is almost straight-out-of-camera apart from a minor crop.

That's a bit special

My x20 arrives tomorrow :D

Cheers.

Just bought the mini EF-X20 flash to go with my X20. (mint seconf hand in box with 6 months guarantee for £124) Easier to cart than one of my 580EX's
A usefull little tool either on the camera or layed on its back as a bounced slave.
helps a lot for shots indoors.
Only real fault is the slow recharge time. But it works great.

Well, finally moved my X10 on... for an X-Pro along with all my other DSLR gear.

I finally got 'the hang' of using it, and then decided to trade it along with the rest of my stuff. I was thinking of keeping it, but was offered £240 as a part ex. against an X-Pro & 18-55mm and that just seemed too good to turn down.

I've really enjoyed it, and of course it's led me further down the Fuji route.

A big thanks to those in here for their advice - this is a great thread full of super ideas, images and advice. Long may it continue! :)
