TV Tonight BBC 3 22:30 - Paparazzi: Next Generation

Ok,

Couple more responses,

Firstly, before i was a pap i did news, and the biggest story i've worked on was the killing of Rhys Jones in Liverpool.

Now i arrived on the scene really quickly, infact parts of Rhys were still on the floor in the car park. It was not very nice and the image stick with me to this day.

Now i was there for hours taking pictures and sending, taking pictures and sending. The next day i had 3 front pages and around 12 pictures printed in the nationals.

So i ask, which is worse, a pap doing pictures of Jude Law with his kids in Primrose Hill which by the way is also where almost every pap goes for coffee and food, or me at a murder scene???

I have no shame in telling people what i do, at all, i love my job, and enjoy every single second, mainly because celebrities cooperate with us, i've had Lily Allen ask to choose the pictures i send in of her, i've had Charlotte Church doing a small setup as long as i agreed i wouldn't picture her baby, i've had Kate Moss begging me to delete a pic of her smoking in exchange for some nice half posed fashion pics and Sadie Frost giving me info on Jude Law so that i deleted some uncomplimentary pics of her.

Another question are there any reason we can't photograph a celebrity, well not really. For certain companies who have harassed a certain celeb such as the high profile case of Sienna Miller and BIG Pictures, BIG now can't handle any photos of her or take a picture of her unless it's at an event on her terms.

Victoria Beckham has shouted at photographers saying Romeo has Epilepsy, but since she's put him infront of many flashing cameras with no problems??

And one more thing, lets make this 100% crystal clear, celebs need the paps, no doubt!

George Clooney thought he didn't and waged a war against photographers, and was generally not a very nice person towards the paps in LA, so they all grouped together, and made a strong agreement he would not be papped anywhere, in the street or on the red carpet, and his next film flopped, BIG TIME! He then later apologized to the paparazzi and asked to be photographed again.

So can celebs have it both ways, turn the publicity on and off, i don't think so.

maybe its all in the quote ???

To save me a cart load of word fencing, I don't find blackmail acceptable....to be perfectly blunt.

Does this thread get a TP award for enlisting most new members :D

Sounds more like an arrangement come to between 2 people to me. And I still don't know what "Ho" means.

You'll have to find somebody else to argue about the pronunciation of tomato with tonight.

I believe its a south American prostitute

I don't understand the question. Worse in what sense? One being a tragic episode with loss of a young life being documented. (though rather you than me, I stopped taking pictures when a young lad fell off his BMX and broke his thigh in front of me) One would hope you approached the Rhys Jones as reporting of a very sad event.

The other being stalking of a 'celeb' whilst playing with his child for money.

How you can equate the two events confuses me.

Though if they were doing both being shot just for how much one were able to make, then I could see how the two subjects could be confused.

I know it was not you taking pics of Jude Law, but you mentioned both as an example.

i've had Charlotte Church doing a small setup as long as i agreed i wouldn't picture her baby,

Desperate to shield her child from the media spotlight, Charlotte Church does a deal. How sad. :(

I'm sure the Paparazzi would like to think that they can make or break a film, and while I'm no industry expert, and I don't know which film you're on about, there were probably other factors in why a film would fail. No doubt lack of pictures of a star coming out of a restaurant had an effect, however the many film reviews (where they boycotted as well?) and poor advertising, may, amongst other things have had a greater impact on the success.

If all it took was Pap pictures, then you'd be getting paid a lot more for the pictures you take, and directly from the production companies as you'd be such a large part of the publicity of a new film. ;)

People call Paps scum these same people buy the newspapers and magazines that we supply the images too, so what are they. If they did not buy the publications then the demand for these pics would not be there. Also I have been invited to numerous photoshoots when celebs are launching books or products that they are endorsing, they are very happy to have their photo taken then! Yet when walking down the street and no money is in it for them they seem to have a problem with us, you can't have your cake and eat it.

On a final note, I work as a pap in North East of England and the adrenaline does flow especially when you have been waiting hours for him/her to step out but I have never and would never drive the way that idiot drove on the show chasing Amy Whinehouse. He should be banned for life, the met should be investigating his driving ability and throwing the book at him. Also the pratt from Essex who got his colleague to block the other photographers shot needs to understand the unwritten code for papps. That behavior is not acceptable.

These guys aren't creative photographers, and they know that. They're virtually using their cameras as expensive point and shoots. The only slightly technical element I saw was the importance of getting subjects fully in frame and watching out for background clutter.

The images these guys take is a million miles away from the kind of professional togs working in sport (remember the Beijing stuff) and war zones for example.

But at the end of the day it's something people are demanding for. I certainly couldn't do it, far too stressful all that running around!

thanx for you kind respons bro glad to have another squadie here:clap:

I didn't say the guys might not have talent, just that the typical paparazzi shot doesn't require an awful lot of creativity and in a lot of ways they're using their cameras as point and shoots

I'm much more into photo journalism in the style of National Geographic where the pictures make you stop and think

The biggest skill with paparazzi photographers seems to be double guessing the other paps
