WAMT....what annoyed me today!

5 weeks of a trapped nerve in the base of my spine, on the second bunch of tablets, doctor said they won’t bind you up like the others, wishful thinking on his behalf, once the painkillers kick in it’s not so bad, the pain attacks different sections of my leg at a time, instead of from my right buttock all the way to my toes.
Not to carry anything heavier than a kettle and not to sit for more than half an hour or stand for the same, so it’s 25 minutes and then stand and pad about the house if the hifi is on or just in view of the telly at night, I can lean on the back of the couch though, it’s like standing on the terracing again. Doctor is to phone me 6th July, if it’s not ok he’ll arrange a scan.
Not to take strong drink with these tablets but a couple of glasses of red wine help me go to the wee room in the house.;)

How many of the people complaining about the heat will holidaying in traditional hot spots, we are not long back from Italy, expected 25°ish but got low 30°+, this meant more beer/coffee stops and people watching periods, and sun lotion.

It tends to be the humidity. I can't handle much above 25° here, but 35°+ on a Greek island is fine.

I can vouch for that!!!

I often worked in 50° + underground, sweat ran from you standing still, worked in only underwear and carried drank large quantities of water followed by special rehydrating drink on the surface.
Not pleasant.

Found yesterday’s post, wife told me there was nothing in it for me, being nosey I looked through it and found a parking fine notice for overstaying in the local Tesco, £70 or £40 if payed before a certain date, looked at it and it was the day after we had come back from holiday this month, she spent 2 hours 26 in Tesco and spent £250 odd, I know she’s a slow shopper but thats just crazy, that’s why I don’t go with her, going in tomorrow to see if they can do something about it, otherwise it’ll be the local Asda a mile away, they have no limit on their car park.
She was just going to pay it and keep quiet, going to set an alarm on her phone so she gets an alert to head for the checkout.

Don't you think it might be better to talk about it - assuming you have not done so already?

I ordered a monitor but when it came it had a fault on it so it's going back. I ordered a different one which was just a few £ more and miraculously / impressively it came the same day but it too is faulty but this time with a different fault so it's going back.

The interesting thing is not that two more pieces of kit turned up DOA, that's just the world we live in but that they're very likely the same thing. They came in different boxes and there are slight differences in plug and button layout but the casing and stand is otherwise the same and the instruction books are identical. I suppose I can understand it. I suppose a lot of stuff is made in the same factory in China with companies just requesting minor changes to try and make their kit look different. Oh well. The annoying thing is that all this wastes my time.

When they first opened a large Tesco in my town my wife saw the threatening parking notices and thought "if this is what they think of their customers", she did not wish to become one and has never shopped there or any other Tesco. Most of our weekly stuff is delivered alternately by ASDA and OCADO.

There's an Asda here very close to the city centre and the signage shows that you can park for up to two hours. The problem is that people park there and walk into town and don't go into the store so I can see it from their point of view. Seems fair enough. I haven't read the notice in detail as we don't usually shop there but I do go there to drop off and pick my wife up when she travels somewhere by train because the station is just 2 minutes walk away. It saves going onto the main road through town via two sets of traffic lights. I don't know if the signs constitutes being 'threatening' or not. I'll take a close look next time.

Our tesco is close to Bicester Village, and is an obvious place to leave a car for a visitor. Much less pleasing was a local restaurant within a shopping centre than has a 3 hour time limit on the car park with very minimal signage. It's not hard to spend more than 3 hours having a meal with friends, and it becomes very expensive.

The Aldi in Didcot had to implement a 90 minute limit soon after opening as commuters were parking up and walking down to the train station for their daily commute.

Pity they didn't make it longer.

If the supermarket has a cafe that parking limit could make things a bit tight.

I do the shopping for someone at church and if they're well enough to go they like to eat in the cafe as that's what they and their partner who is sadly no longer with us liked to do every week. One week they pay and the next I pay and sometimes there's a half hour wait for food so... a parking deadline could put a stop to things like that.

I parked in a small NCP car park in Liverpool which was mainly in gravel so not marked out as you would normally expect.I parked and paid and returned within the time but they sent me a fine for £100 the following week for not having parked correctly. They even included a photo which showed nothing wrong. I formally complained but they refused to withdraw. I tried to go the the Ombudsman but I needed to formal complaint number to do so. NCP refused to supply it. I sometimes wish I was very rich so I could employ lawyer to really deal with a company whose acts, if not criminal, feels like it to us mortals. All I could do was to post my opinion of that car park on the google site and noted that it had been read by 5,000 in few weeks. Then I discovered that NCP are now in administration:D. It seems to me that many of these car park companies are reliant on a fines system both genuine a bogus fines to make ends meet.

Nothing to talk about, she was embarrassed and knew I’d make fun her shopping habits-which I have done-shop is in city centre so without parking limit workers would fill the car park daily, other stores outwith the centre have no limits, we regularly use it when we go for a lunch in the pub and she knows the time limit. She did tell me I’d be doing the shopping in future and I agreed, quicker and cheaper says I even if the odd bottle of wine gets added to the list, she lost track of time and now admits she is the slowest shopper out there, she does blame Tesco for constantly moving stuff round about in the store, it was £40, been worse if it was a bump in the car park.

You know, I've gone from thinking we need a revolution as in a political change to effect real change to thinking we just need a revolution.

I bought four raised planters from a local garden centre and have spent a good hour, replacing the "stapled" (and already rusting) joints with screws! They were all in exactly the place, where they would get wet and rust away very quickly, allowing the contents of the planter to drop onto the floor! Built in obsolescence at its best. Such a shame, because the wood is good and the finish OK. For the sake of a dozen screws, the thing will now last several times longer! Good job my design and tech degree was useful at last! :ROFLMAO:

People speeding in car parks.

I know drivers don't have to stop when there's someone at the crossing in a supermarket car park and I know the likelihood of getting done for speeding is low but I know the car full of young women who sped passed me stood at the crossing didn't even see me and that's dangerous. The driver was completely distracted and speeding.

I had a similar fine from a car park company once. I fought them for 18 months and eventually they pulled out the day before it went to court. It was a very hollow victory when I think of the energy spent fighting the case, paying £50 (early payment) would have been so much easier.

Driving behind a very nice black BMW M840i into Bracknell this morning.

Aftermarket BMW roundel on bootlid - red and black rather than white and blue - that did not affect me, but it was not level, not quite 1 degree out but enough to trigger OCD.

Just like C H E R Y badges on Tiggo8s. Not level.

Sorry Peter, I had to laugh. That irritates me too - I don't have OCD, but I certainly have many 'tendencies'.

I used to work for DPCE / Granada Computer Services who had their HQ in Bracknell and I worked there for a time, happy days and it helped pay for early retirement at 49.

I agree on the badge. I'd rather walk than get in a car like that.

It's taken 5 plumbers and electricians 7 days and 7 visits to change the emersion heater element.
Heaven help how long a new boiler will take.

Or........... were they "technicians"? ;)
Not the word that comes to mind.... One I wouldn't trust to tie his shoe laces.
The last one, knew his suff ( called in by the previous company because they didn't have the foggiest) he took one look yesterday, got the right part today and had it fitted in about half hour.

Yes well done for fighting back. I would have done so when younger but lack the energy and enthusiasm now. It is interesting that part of NCP's financial problems are that they are owed large amounts in fines which I am sure they were relying on to make ends meet. There must be pressure to invent offences or bend the truth.

What is going to be real fun is if debt collectors buy up these “fines” from NCP’s administrators for pennies in the pound and start trying to pursue them without all the original evidence or fallback on the appeals routes.

It’s strange because given the same scenario today I might just pay it, far cheaper in reality than what it cost me mentally!

Our local Tesco* has signs up showing a 10mph speed limit, a policeman pal once told me that car parks were like pedestrian High streets etc, speed limit of ‘Walking Pace’, makes sense to me and since then I don’t move for cars in these places, had a couple of discussions with impatient drivers who when told about walking pace limit apologised and let me continue at my speed.
*Scene of my wife’s long stay.

People with no dress sense. I live in a very respectable area and what really irks my ire are the hideous loathsome creatures that parade up and down the street especially on an evening or late at night, with absolutely no dress sense whatsoever. They are so badly dressed that even the car drivers that are travelling along the road have to slow down to a crawl so that they can gawp in sheer disbelief at these repugnant wretches. Some of the drivers will even stop, chat, and offer advice to these odious beings, whilst others will actually give these grotesque unfortunate souls a lift home. The problem with that is that for some totally unfathomable reason they then bring them back half an hour later. Still I suppose that’s the price you have to pay for living next-door to the home for the bewildered.

WAMT is the usual whenever we are away from home,be it self-catering or in a hotel. Trying to get the tv channels we want. We've just had to text the owner asking for more detailed instructions than are in the 'Welcome' book. Why are there a myriad of ways of getting the shower to work,too...?

I just carry a firestick.

A what ??? I assume that is some kind of tech communication aid ?

Googled it.. Ok..So..what we have here is a smart tv that operates via the wi-fi. It has lots of apps..Netflix. etc. and three darned remotes..Because it operates via the wi-fi it keeps dropping out. Frustrating doesn't adequately explain the emotion when someone, for example on this morning's Laura Kuensberg's show , says.."the reason for that is.....the wi-fi drops out. After about 30 seconds it's playing catchup. I actually gave up watching it this morning. It's the same with the World Cup games..the 6.00pm..8.00pm kick offs..our time.

So..three remotes. One is marked....'Now TV.'..it should be 'Now & Then tv....or "Maybe tv"....The other is the regular remote you get with all TVs and I have no idea what the third one is for. As you'll be aware, Aultbea,on Loch Ewe, is pretty remote. There are two holiday homes here..us and next door, beyond that the nearest house is some about 500m away, one way, and I can't see any houses the other way. A few up the hill behind us .

I think there is one doctor here.Looking west,it's just the loch and hills/mountains. It's wonderfully quiet ..just the sound of heavy rain....but it's too remote for us. I have no idea where the nearest petrol station is. There's a wee well-stocked general store and a butcher van visits as does a fish van. I think Gaerloch ..12 miles away on a narrow road, is the nearest hamlet. We were going to visit Ullapool but we've driven enough and it's an hour's drive away. We're just coming to after the two-day drive to get here. We stayed overnight in Motherwell. After we leave here,it's back to Motherwell for a night and on to Southerness, Solway Firth, for another week. The temperature here,at Aultbea is 12C. Back home it's heading towards 32C +...like the last heat wave. .

The nearest petrol station to you is at Laide about 8 miles to the north. Gairloch also has a petrol staion, a small Coop, the Farm and Garden shop(its name can be a bit misleadin because in addition to hardware it has a small range of outdoor clothing, the usual groceries and beers and wines. There is also a small Morrisons(as in the supermarket chain) shop but it is overshadowed by the newish Coop, there is also a Chinese Takeaway and an excellent butchers called Kenneth Morrison.

If you fancy a sea trip about a mile south of the Coop shop is Charletown harbour where this id located - https://www.hebridean-whale-cruises.co.uk/

We have been out a couple times with them and seen gannets, great skuas, raozorbills, puffins, guillemots, golden and white tailed eagles.

Gairloch, not Gaerloch. A hamlet....................!!?? :ROFLMAO: And it's not a narrow road - it's an A road with white lines down the middle. Just watch out for the sheep and deer and goats. Oh dear........
You really should try to appreciate the area for what it is

To be fair Morrisons (the supermarket one not Kenneth M who are brilliant) was useless before the Co-op arrived. Even as the Wildcat Store it was pretty useless. The Co-op's fine if you get in there before the campervanners have cleaned it out
