I've read it before, maybe 10 years ago, but I took a sudden notion to reread it, so I had to buy another copy.

Next I've got an academic book on labour relations at BL in the run up to the launch of the Metro, which should tie-in nicely and (hopefully) give a more impartial view of the period...

Hi Graham,

Be interested to get info on that book please. I did study about this situation many years ago. Michael Edwardes role was very interesting.

Finished Scott Moriani's first Vampire book, Uprising last night. This guy is so good. I never thought I would read this kind of book, but did so because it was written by Scott.

Started his 7th Ben Hope book last night and it looks as though it will continue as well as the previous 6.

If you liked that, I recommend anything from the top shelf in your local newsagent's...

Its basically porn with some badly written story linking it together.... cut to the chase ;-)

It does surprise me that my local supermarket has a whacking great display of these books inside the door - I wonder if anyone has complained....

So it's not intellectual and it's a crap story but it was good escapism for a few days which makes it a very good book in my eyes ;)

It's a cheesy romance novel with added spice lol
 
Apparently, my friend tells me that some contents from the legendary Top Shelf also don't have pictures ;-)

A (different) friend of mine used to write the "letters" for those "photography magazines", she had a sort of flow chart to create them.

Anyway, I was really trying to say that those E.L.James books have had a lot of publicity for a porno - before I did some investigative reading (lol) I assumed it was more bloody vampires or another stupid posh school kid magician's tale from all the hype it was getting.

It was on GMTV this morning that Ryan Gosling and Scarlet Johannsen (sp) are going to play the lead in the movies.

It was originally but I think after it showed a bit of popularity it got rewritten as novels. There is no similarity whatsoever to Twilight now

A very strange collection on the go at the moment..

One Straw Revolution, Masanobu Fukuoka (Kindle)
Mull: The Island and its People, Jo Currie (paperback from a charity shop)
Metro 2033, Dmitry Glukhovsky (Kindle)

And it's quite normal for me to have three books on the go at the same time.
 
I've just finished reading Stepehen Fry's The Liar which I really enjoyed. Going to read Jasper Fforde's One of our Thursday's is missing from his Thursday Next series.
 
Just started reading The Hobbit.. I think the film is coming out soon too so then I'll be able to say that the book was better after watching it. :)
 
The Hobbit is an excellent childrens book, really good.

I doubt if the film will be in the same vein as the book :(
 
Yes, the Hobbit is a really good book. As for it being turned into a movie, I have more confidence in the Hobbit movie than I did in the LoTR movies because there are more movies per book. I'm certainly looking forward to the movie!

Mondo Enduro.

kind of travel adventure about 7 guys riding motorbikes around the world taking the longest possible land route, 44,000miles in 400 days.
Great stuff. ordinary blokes, ordinary bikes, extraordinary tales!!
done way before Ewan Mcgregor and Charlie Boorman did it with TV crews and support teams etc!

There's a DVD too, but the book goes into far more detail.
If you like bikes or travel or both! you'll love it.
 
Now I'm midway through "The Bugles are Silent," which is about the Mexican-American war. Very interesting as I have ancestors from both places!
 
Nobody True by James Herbert.
A bit lame to be honest but Im seeing it through to the end as its a different concept at least.
 
am on to the 3rd 50 shades book now, the first was a bit boring, but the second had a bit of a story, and am looking forward to the third as light entertainment they're very good, and no more pornagraphic than a decent Jilly cooper

Now I'm always up for a good Jilly Cooper :D - but can't see my way to pay out for the other two books in the 50 shades series.

The real question is - who would you choose Rupert CB or Mr Grey?

Rupert CB, without a doubt, always did like a real bad boy, Mr Grey is only bad when he's allowed to be;)
