Hello, I'm new to this website and rather new to buying second-hand cameras. I am currently on the search for a Pentax 67. I have tried various sites already such as Ffordes, West Yorkshire Cameras and eBay to name a few. First of all I am a bit sceptical of using eBay as a lot of the Pentax 67 models I have found come directly from Japan and I'm a bit thrown off by the prospect of having to pay import fees, not to mention if I end up purchasing a dud. I was wondering if anyone had any idea where I could find a reliable seller or go about finding one. Cheers.

I have a 67 mk 2 system that could be for sale , I even have the original box , wooden hand grip , 2 Viewfinders , several lenses
May be well over your budget ?

He won't have access to the classifieds for a while.

West Yorkshire Cameras are good. I'm sure they'll get one in eventually.

I'm afraid this might be over my budget indeed

Check shutter actuations before buying and avoid one with a high count

ROFL. Nearest you'll get to checking that kind of thing with a film camera is checking the film pressure plates to see if they've been polished/worn by the half a million rolls of 120 that's gone before...

To save any more digital people putting their foot in it, i've moved this thread to the Film and Conventional section of the forum, where people actually understand that you don't get a supercomputer onboard most cameras...

Of course, he won't have access to the classifieds for a good time yet, and I'm SURE you wouldn't be trying to sell the camera outwith that section, would you... especially when the staff are aware of this thread :naughty:

Don't be afraid of buying from the Japanese eBay sellers. I've bought quite a few things from Japan, and in my experience they are great to deal with and always seem to describe things fairly. Remember that as an eBay buyer you are fully protected against seller fraud.

The Pentax 67s I've seen for sale in the UK are almost always more expensive than Japanese imports. The extra costs add up to roughly 30% of the final the price you pay, including postage (VAT, import duty and the parcel force handling fee).

Get the exif data off the last photo taken. That will show you if you use kuso exif viewer. The seller should be able to tell you

More coffee for Bazza!!!

Also, take a photo of the sky at f/16 and examine it for spots on the sensor. But don't panic if you see anything - new sensors are still available in packs of 10 for about £5.

I could be.... Might one define a budget that one would require in order to start official proceedings? :D

ITS A FILM CAMERA.

the Exif from the last photo taken may possibly tell you how many images that the Nikon Super Coolscan 9000ED or Hasselblad Flextight X1/X5 that scanned the images had done... won't be much help for working out the throughput of the camera though

I have had 3 Pentax 6x7 including a Mk2 I have used them since since 1990 and still have one. A good one. "A good one" what does he mean?

Who ever you buy the 6x7 from try to get an agreement they will allow you a full refund if the shutter is faulty.

What happens is that over time is the shutter on the 6x7 start to give an uneven exposure across the intire frame. An old 6x7 if it has been used a lot can give a really bad uneven exposure by as much as a full F stop from one side of the frame to the other. One out of the three I had went like that.

If you get one put a couple of films through it to test it. Pentax 6x7's are old cameras now. Get a Mk2 if you can they came out about 1999/2000.

It's risky but I've seen a few Pentax 67's crop up for sale on various Facebook camera selling groups recently. If you went down that route you would need to either meet in person so you could test everything out thoroughly or pay by PayPal goods and services for the buyer protection that it gives.

Unlike digital you cannot test the shutter out. The shutter on old Pentax 6x7 is the week link. It is important to test it with at least one film. So a gtee of a refund is available after the failed test. It's worth remembering that the person selling might not be aware of the shutter drag.

h'mm when these posts get around the prices on the bay will drop ;)

I've had three Pentax 6x7 bodies, a nice one bought from Japan and two beaten-up ones from a German seller which had obviously had a million rolls through them. The shutters were perfect on them all. In fact, I see more posts about broken electronics in 67II models than 6x7s.

Depends how much of the system you require Sir
Would you like a list of said items that MAY be for sale in the classified adds section IF I decide to part with the system :D

SORRY big time never checked to see that it was a film camera

The Pentax 67 is a film camera originally introduced in 1969, with the latest versions being discontinued in 2009. It has no memory card on which to store any data (even if it was capable of supplying it in the first place, which it isn't).

How about a big sorry You were right?????

I’m not sure what you’re missing but your camera is a DIGITAL D300. A Pentax 67 is an ANALOGUE film camera so there is no EXIF information.

How about a big “I can’t read”?

(As per the two comments above)

Removed that post as soon as a realised and replaced it , so again big sorry to all

I hope you find a good one. I LOVE my 67ii. The negatives from it are beautiful and I honestly don’t think I will ever sell it.

“From the ark” Behave. I produce better images with this than I ever did with anything digital.

Well I remember when the Pentax 67 first came out and the reviewer said it sounded like a 21 gun salute..when you think about it the shutter mechanism would have to be tough because of the momentum of a larger focal plane shutter. I remember my Rollei SL66 also with a focal plane shutter and that had a thump.
