    Gift of nikon v1

Take both and sell the one you don't wish to keep. I have the J2 and it's a fun little camera that takes surprisingly good photos, IQ is much above any point and shoot and the AF is blazingly fast, makes my dslr's look a bit slow. The not so good, a weak flash although you could use a cheap off...

    Sony flash

Depends what you can afford? Nissin aren't cheap but still cheaper than the Sony equivalents. Nissin Di622 or Di866, preferably the Mark II versions if you can swing it. Metz are a very close second and have cheaper less powerful models.

    Sony flash

Besides Sony, there is the Minolta 5600 HS if you can find a used one in exc. condition. Also Metz, Sigma & Nissin make models that work with Sony. The Yongnuo quoted above will only work manually or as a slave and needs an adapter for the hotshoe.

What New Gear Have You Purchased This Week?

Nikon 1 J2 for a measly 120 quid in your cash. A bargoon.

I need a photoshop program thing but hate the idea, can you help?

A vote for the free one from Practical Photography mag ... it's Cyberlink's Photodirector 4 Ultra which for free beats all the free ones hands down, even gimp since it has a raw converter if I recall correctly. Not without flaws but does a lot of what lightroom can do.

Looking for a sling bag for Nikon D90 with a 18-200 attached

Lowepro Toploader Pro 75 AW would work. I use one with my Tamron 70-200 f2.8 attached or my 70-300 USD. Oppps, saw you already got a bag.

    Why so much Canon?

It's because Nikon, Sony & Olympus users can't walk up to hot women and say, "Wanna play with my Canon?" :naughty:

    flash gun query

Trigger voltage is somewhere between 10-14v for the 2500. I'd check about your G1 before using it. Most modern cams seem to rate up to 6v although varies from manufacturer.

    GULP.....need some advice

Since you'll be the official photographer, don't be afraid to tell Uncle Bob that he can take photos of the same subjects after you've taken yours to your satisfaction. We all have an Uncle Bob (wait, I'm not Bob, honest!).

New Copyright Law in the UK

What about using invisible watermarks/stenography to sign photos? As long as you have the original that should provide proof of ownership would it not?

    DOF... where's it going?!

My useless 2 cents: all camera bodies front/back focus lens to -/+ xxxx degrees which is why some lens are fine, others are not. That is why many new higher/high end cameras come with focus adjustment for lens in the camera. Looks like even Nikon sees it's back focusing which is why they want...
