    "Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Thanks for mentioning those two. I was totally unaware of them. Looks like the LX5 may have moved down my list a couple of spots. The Fuji looks very nice. EDIT: The GX1 is out of my price range - I'm hoping to be able to basically swap my G2 outfit for a compact. Putting the 20mm on the G2...

As small and amazing as my G2 is I really need something that will fit in my pocket. The Panasonic LX5 looks a good choice. Anything else I should look at? Cheers.

    40D to GF1? Update.....

If you think you'd still like an SLR but feel you'd hardly ever use it then you could do what I did. I have a u4/3 camera but also a 35mm SLR with some primes for those times when I manage to get out on an actual photography day. It only gets a little use but it's there when I want it and is...

MacBook Pro - is it powerful enough?

That spec is fine I should think. I use aperture rather than Lightroom but that runs fine on a 2.1ghz core 2 duo and 4gigs. I plug in an external samsung monitor for heavy editing sessions as mine macbook is on 11" screen. FWIW I use a similar spec desktop PC at work running Windows 7 and my Mac...

Electronic. The G1 and G2 are very hi res and in my experience are better than OVFs found in entry level DSLRs. They aren't as good as the OVF in my T90 so I'd assume that the OVF in more expensive DSLRs would be better though. Best to try one out really.

Please help me choose a micro 4/3 camera!

In your situation sparklies I'd get a GF1 I think. The Olympus cameras don't focus quick enough. My m4/3 is my main camera so I went for a G2 but if it was a second camera then I'd get a GF1 + 20mm I reckon. Good luck.

AVCHD is a widely used standard designed by Sony and Panasonic. It's playable on pretty much anything with the correct codec and is higher quality, uses less memory and doesn't need as fast an SD card as the alternative movie format found on Panasonic cameras. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD

how weather sealed is your camera.

Yes, the E-1 weather sealing was excellent. I know a guy who went to take his E-1 out his rucksack only to find his dog had peed in it and the camera and lens were soaked. He had no idea how long it had been like that. Anyway, he was in a park and just ranthe equipment under a tap to wash it all...

Is the ISO you set the one you really get?

Take a look at the still life shots on imaging-resource for the Panasonic G2 and the Olympus EP1. You will see that if you look at the exif data for each camera at the same ISO settings the panasonic shutter speed is faster in each case. This is because when a G2 reports its sensitivity at e.g...

    Ffordes Now Wont Honour Warranty

Ffordes are fine when things go to plan. I've bought many things off them. However, I bought an E++ T90 off them a while ago and the stop down lever was completely seized on arrival so it hadn't been checked before it went out. I sent it back (at my expense) and received a replacement that was...

Is the ISO you set the one you really get?

Ignoring Dxo for a moment, different manufacturers have been shown by multiple test sites that they will ship cameras with widely varying ISO settings. You can see the appeal. Showing that brand X has the same noise at ISO 1600 as brand Y does at ISO 800 is the sort of thing that would imply...

    Sigma 30mm f1.4

I had one of these on an Alpha. It highlighted the general back-focus problem the camera had. My 2 kit lenses had such comparatively large depth of field I hadn't noticed before. Basically I fixed the back focus in the body to match the Sigma and then tried everything out to be sure I hadn't...

Jay Kay has a point. I'm not sure who's the most talentless out of Danni and Cheryl.
