I made a very similar swap this weekend - my old 5DS to a used but minty EOS R from LCE Cheltenham.
I can confirm that my legacy lenses work flawlessly Three Canon Primes, 24, 50 and 85 and three Sigma; 24-105 Art, 105 Macro and an ancient 70-200 2.8 zoom all working without any issue.
As I...
I have also snuck in a cheeky Nikon EM with a selection of the e-series lenses. Not a great camera, but it was the one I wanted to get to complete my film module at college back in the day.
I ended up with a Zenit 12XP at the time, so this is catharsis.
After 18 months of procrastination and indecision I finally picked up an Sigma 24-105 f4 Art lens.
Super pleased with it, my decision to choose this over the Canon L Equivalent now seems like the right one.
But damn its heavy.
Last year I bought an Olympus Zoom from them at a good price, I only wanted it for one trip so I figured that I would sell it back to them when I got home, almost like a rental.
They refused to take it back citing 'signs of fungus'. Utter nonsense.
So never again for me.
Plus 1 for seeking out a set of close-up filters, a set of three can be had for not very much - £10 or so on e-bay.
These will allow you to focus much closer and fill the frame with your subject much better, similar in concept to the raynox, but usefully cheaper.
Optically they are a bit...
We can agree to disagree on that one.
But can we at least agree that the R5 isnt a pro spec item in terms of build quality, battery etc?
So at some point an 'R1' type camera will come along.
Although given the recent launch of the 1DX mk3 this could be some way off?
