    Memory cards

I'm sure someone can give you a techy detailed breakdown about write speeds etc (probably be covered over on Rob Galbraith etc) however as a mark iv user, I use CF & SD cards and have never had any problems. I usually have camera set to automatically switch cards when one is full, that way you...

Photography survey to help with my studies

Done, assume you'll be using this to define the subject of your dissertation not to try and draw conclusions from it. Very closed questions and not really framing your questions to have valid quantitative or qualitative verfication if you are using for testing hypotheses.

    xmas pics

That's not particularly helpful of Nikon that you can't change the info - there is afterall a healthy trade in used cameras!

    xmas pics

Looks like a nice location and nice light for capturing the action. As an aside, you really should update your on camera info with your details rather than the previous chaps and it looks like your sensor could do with a clean too!

    Pump Track

Looks like and interesting place to shoot. First 2 don't work for me, good rider lean but no sense of speed, everything frozen, no wheel blur and I find the green and "messy" background very distracting. 3 - Nice mix of colours, again a busy image but draws eyes well to the rider. 4 - nice...

    Junior events any issues?

Often event organisers will keep a list of those taking photographs and ask that anyone wanting to take pictures signs on the list. Most don't have a problem with it and when challenged by a parent the "I'm signed up on the list run by the organisers" usually works well...

Anyone with experience of Mud/Obsticle Events.

If you're not already in this line of business are you sure you're not taking on more than you can deliver in the time available to the events? There are plenty of established companies around the country that specialise in this sort of thing - so at the very least have a look at the sort of...

    1D Mk 3 / 7D

Might be worth getting the 7D checked out, I don't experience significant noise with a 7D shooting sports till around ISO1600 and even that can be easily fixed in post production in the range 1600 - 3200.

    Dual Monitor Color Calibration

Just as a simple work around - if you have two monitors on one computer and want to use a basic Spyder monitor calibrator - which apparently won't let you calibrate them both...good news - it will. Turn off one monitor (like the right one) and reboot the computer. Run the spyder calibration -...

    Low res images..Be careful.

two things here: 1. economics lessons: below a certain price it doesn't make a difference for event photography - it does not increase demand linearly: i.e. half the price = double the sales. This is not true. Conversely - if we consider photos to be a "luxury" product as defined in economic...

    Low res images..Be careful.

Just as an aside to the main thread, I host my gallery pictures 530px on the longest, nice watermarks including "buy your copy today" across the middle (as a big hint, without directly calling them thieving gits). I recently changed the webcode so any clicks on the image take the image and...

Sport and the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8

I've used one for rugby, cricket, cycling and athletics - all with good results. As other posters have commented, not so good for low light.
