Thanks. Basically I've ignored the Amazon limitations with the pdf version. The final version - when completed - will be professionally edited and will hopefully get rid of grammatical errors including my overuse of emphasis capitalisation, for which I blame using the German language for years:). I will also expand the table of contents.

Have replied via PM but for the benefit of other people. . . Amazon forces me to use Kindle even though it's a pretty hopeless medium for illustrated books.
However, it is also available in pdf format and I send the pdf version to every Amazon buyer as soon as they have left a review.

I'm still trying to sort out a paperback version for Amazon, a bit of a nightmare to do, but it won't sell because their charges for printing etc means that the printed version can't be sold for less than £24.99. I'll get back to that when I can, meanwhile I'm working on two other e-books, one is about marketing and photographing general products for sale on t'internet and t'other one is about selling clothing.

Having re-read the thread, I thought I'd also make a donation. As it's made direct, then hopefully your charity benefits way more than giving the money to Amazon and them creaming stuff off the top.

The challenge that I (and of course other authors) have is that Amazon doesn't do pdf books.
It's available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle versions, the paperback is expensive and the Kindle version isn't really suited to colour photos, so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place . . .

The workaround for Amazon customers is that if they buy the Kindle version I will then send them the pdf version. If you donate a fiver to the All For Horses charity, and let me have your email address via PM I'll send you the pdf.

And now my latest e-book, Product Photography Magic.

As the title indicates, it's all about product photography. It's more limited and more specialised that Lighting Magic because it doesn't include anything on photographing people, it's all about (non clothing) product photography.

Overall, I feel that Product Photography Magic, which includes a lot of information about how to sell as well as how to photograph products on Amazon, Ebay and other online marketplaces should sell better simply because there are a lot of firms - of all sizes - who want to do their product photography in house.

Product Photography Magic has just gone on sale on Amazon, priced at £4.99. All proceeds are going to All For Horses, www.allforhorses.org.uk a small horse rescue and re-homing charity that I support. I spend a lot of time volunteering there, doing mainly labouring and driving jobs, hopefully the income from the book will carry on being useful when I no longer am.

Regardless of whether it’s any good or not, Product Photography Magic has to compete with a lot of other e-books on Amazon and it will only sell if we can get it right up there in the visibility list, and the best way of doing that is for a lot of people to post detailed reviews about it on Amazon.

Which is where we need your help – please read the book, and then help us to make it more visible on Amazon by writing as detailed and as useful a review as you can.

This offer will end at 12 noon on Sunday 14th April - I feel that this gives plenty of time for active members of this forum to have requested a copy.

If you feel that you do want to help financially, a direct donation to the charity means that we get all of your donation. A purchase from Amazon means that we only get a small part of it. However, there is no easy answer because when people buy it from Amazon and then leave a review it's a big help because reviews from verified purchasers are a massive help.

Surprisingly, sales of both books, each of which is available from Amazon in both Kindle and Paperback versions, are getting their highest volume of sales from Germany, even though I wrote them in English! I did work in Germany for a few years but this was many years ago and I would have thought that my name was forgotten there now, so the relatively high number of sales there is a bit of a mystery.
 
Sales of my books have now started to grow, and to produce a small but steady income for the charity - but will be better if more of the people who received a free copy were to post a review on Amazon . . .

Post 32 in this thread mentions one of our horses that had an attack of colic that was cured quickly, but we've just had another pony where everything went less well, and he ended up having emergency surgery, followed by even more expensive complications. I think it's shameful. You were generous enough to give away copies - the least people could have done was to give you a review.

As for donations - some people are just plain tight and expect everything for nothing. :mad:

Update on Shadow:
He died last night despite having 24hr intensive care at the equine hospital since being admitted on Tuesday.

Everybody at All For Horses is devastated, and we would like to thank everyone for your donations and many kind messages of support.

The day before the colic, Shadow was bucking and playing in the field with his herd as normal. He was fit and healthy and a good candidate for surgery. The colic returned and he was simply too ill to pull through. The staff at Rainbow worked tirelessly round the clock and did all they could to save him.
We are still appealing for donations towards the cost of Shadow's treatment, as this is a massive expense for us. Please help if you can.

Before this incident, we've been very lucky. Another horse had colic a few months ago, emergency callout of vet but hospitalisation not needed, vet bill of £1200. A couple of years ago we had a Feather with a serious eye injury, complete recovery, £900 vet bill and another horse, Grace, needed surgery for a leg injury and this cost about £1500. Until Shadow, we've only lost 2 horses in the last 10 - 12 years, both to relieve suffering.

A quick update . . .
We've now managed to buy a telehandler for the charity, basically a heavy duty (7 ton) off road forklift with 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, crab steering and a 2.5 ton lift. It's old - they cost over £60K new - but will solve a lot of problems for us.

It will be used for a wide variety of jobs, but it's main use will be getting large round bales of hay into the field feeders during the winter. This has been a challenge in the past because our tractors only have 2 wheel drive and it's very muddy and hilly. The telehandler allows the hay to be carried 10m in the air, which means that the horses hopefully won't try to kill themselves by grabbing the hay on route.

I won't pretend that anywhere near all of the money needed for this has come from the book sales and donations, but it's been a big help, so many thanks.
