As I've also said before, the video is aimed squarely at press photographers who will find it very useful.
according to the email that arrived from Calumet yesterday the video feature is aimed at wedding 'togs.....

Still not sure

You must have got a different email than the one I got.Wait until you start to see dramatic film footage on TV caught from a 100-400 L lens with a 2x extender.
D300 has an APS-C sensor.
D3 has FF - different Sensor.
There is definately a difference in image quality between the two. D3 is far far better. D300 is very very good though.
Wait until you start to see dramatic film footage on TV caught from a 100-400 L lens with a 2x extender. Quite a few journalists are already using
tiny HD camcorders to record footage to refer to it later when they churn out their crap write ups. It will be a useful addition, sometimes, but it
will be no substitute for the sort of image a 21mpx FF sensor will produce. The video will be good enough for TV, and the sort of flash video seen
on local news websites. A screen grab will also be ok for web and newsprint.
Speaking as an ex-television cameraman.............
......what on earth is the point of a camcorder without sound!
Changing tack a bit here, has anyone seen how it performs at high ISOs in comparison with the mkI? I'd be really interested in seeing how it handles ISO 1600 and 3200 with identical settings and shot with the mkI. It's those dark atmospheric winter weddings I'm interested in using this for where flash would murder the scene. While I'm happy with how the mkI version handles it there's always room for improvement.
5dm2 at 21mp produces an image with a resolution of 5750 x 3650. The HD video it produces is 1920 x 1080. Thats quite a substantial crop.
It is, but it would still look ok on a 1080p TV
None. That'll be why the 5dm2 has a stereo mic built in.
I don't know about anyone else but I don't take photos for 1080p TV sets
Anyway, we shouldn't bitch about it having an extra feature, even if you don't use it. Well, then don't use it. You don't not buy a car you like because it came with a plasma TV as an extra.
It would be interesting when this hits people's hands and see what cool videos they came back with, using all their lenses.
I can't wait to see what happens when you marry a 5D Mark II with a macro lens.
I think it's someway the arrogance of the photographer in us that finds this video feature "repulsive". We consider photography an art form and ourselves the artist, therefore how dare they introduce something that muddles our tools, a feature that has nothing to do with our art !
WHY DID THEY?????
HOW DARE THEY ? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fine, turn it off !
The video doesn't make the camera worse, with the release of the D90 with video and now this, you bet all future DSLR will have the ability to do HD videos, this is just the start, don't fear it, embrace it. Now you can try out HD video without spending £1k on a HD camcorder. You can now film your kid blow out the candles on his/her birthday cake, video them taking their first step or say the first word.
HD video is a good thing.
Yes, many of us are disappointed that it's AF and FPS isn't 1D standards - but why would it be? That's what the 1D's are placed for.

Did anyone expect it to be? I think most people, and from what I've read on other forums, were expecting at least 5fps and the AF from the 50D. There is some confusion as to whether it has the 5dm1 AF or the improved AF from the 50D. I don't think anyone was really expecting a 1D in a 5D case.

Probably get macro photos, but don't quote me on that.

(maybe)
30 fps

Well... I actually like the idea of the video feature and here's a few reasons why:
1. No need to carry a video camera
2. Covert video
3. Multiple shots for focus stacking(maybe)
4. Perfect for lunar and planetary imaging30 fps
5. Would love to see how it performs with L series lenses
will I buy it? Almost certainly (when the price comes down a bit)![]()
OK, just got a few questions...
1. Yes
2. Errm, wouldn't a 5D plus a big white L lens make for a very bad covert camera?
3. Not sure I understand what you mean. What is focus stacking?
4. Why? - Genuine question, lunar and planetary is something I've never done before. How will the video help?
5. Yes.

For the record, you can get a fantastic HD camcorder for £380. And, it's tiny.

Then those people are being a little silly. But its still not unreasonable to expect it to have the same AF as the 50D. Seeing as they're both out at the same time. If they have taken the 5dm1 AF then thats just stupid of Canon.
