All things related to Apple phones & tablets

Always been the opposite for me until now
FWIW my other half had this problem earlier this evening. Half way through the update she received a phone call on her phone - after the call
the watch sat prepairing doing absolutely nothing. She turned the power off on her watch, turned it back on again and the prepairing disappeared after a few
minutes and started installing the update. All now updated ok, might be worth a try for you.

I tried that and it worked to a point in that it moved past preparing and onto installing. It then told me it was up to date at 10.3 but a couple of minutes later it went back to installing. I'm baffled!

Anyone got any idea how to download all your photos from icloud? A few years ago this was easy and icloud could even download them in a directory structure by year...

It seems that has been removed?

Onto a Mac? You can just drag them from the Photos app into a folder in Finder. Or select the ones you want and use Export on the File menu.

No, on a PC

and as good a solution that is, its not going to work for 15 years of photos and 120+ GB!

There used to be an option in the icloud app to bulk download everything but it seems to be gone.

"Heads Up"

If anyone is using the "ProCamera" app on their iPhone then there's a very nice & useful update out today.

In my opinion this is still by far the best picture taking app available for the iPhone, and is continually improved at quite regular intervals.

What is the 'benefit' of these type of apps - tried a couple in the past and just found them more hassle TBH.

If you're serious about using an iPhone for photography (which I am) together with others then they'll enable you to get the full potential out of the photo taking abilities which the standard app doesn't.

Which pro camera. app is it? Seems to be two.

I guess thats why I have never really got on with it - any big events or days out the gear comes with me. Only time I use the phone is if I don’t have anything and they are more snaps.

Probably won't interest anyone.

Back on Oct 9th 23 I said that purchases via my "Series 8 watch" and "Apple Pay" no longer showed the purchase just made or the list of purchases made in the past. Well today I gave it another go and made a purchase using my watch and bank card via Apple Pay and it now appears to be showing the purchase just made, but all previous purchases are still not showing.

It interests me. I made one payment with my old Apple Watch SE a few years ago when I first got it and it showed the payment. But when I checked the Wallet app on my phone, the purchase hadn't synced across, so I assumed that purchases would be kept in two separate lists, and I stopped using the watch. It was awkward anyway with the Watch SE since getting the screen to stay lit long enough for the reader to scan it was a big problem.

The purchase still doesn't show on my phone just the watch, and the same the other way round ie purchases made using my phone don't show on my watch and never have done.

That's not how Apple Pay works, it uses the NFC reader, it sounds like you're using a separate payment app so maybe that could be why you're having issues?

Oh, yes, thanks. Memory fail. It wasn't the payment that was tricky. It was getting the QR scanner in Costa to read the code. I remember trying to keep the screen lit by putting a finger on the edge.

morning all, a quick question..

I currently have a series 44mm 4 watch.. I think I bought it in 2019 so it’s been great with just a few very very light scratches on the face as I like to look after my stuff.

Anyway, the battery life is now down to 85% so it is at 15-20% by 7pm. When I travel, it’s often below 10% and sometimes runs out

So my question is would you go for a later model ( 8 perhaps ? ) or the Ultra ? I wouldn’t run out of battery with the Ultra but it’s bigger and more expensive . Those who have bought the Ultra, is it too big and bulky ? I’m assuming the battery life of an 8 would last for my day ie an extra 3-4 hours ?

Can't answer your question but I was astonished at the short battery 'life' of Apple watches, my Fitbit lasts for days on a charge!

They’re not great tbh, certainly poor in comparison to some others. Garmins have extraordinary battery life  :$

The next Apple Watch is supposedly the first drastic redesign, much like how the iPhone X set the bar going forwards from the traditional touch-ID phones.

Series 8/9 or even an SE2 would definitely fit the bill.

My SE is a few years old now but usually lasts from 7am to around 11pm/1am, with 3 workouts and constant notifications throughout the day, it definitely used to last longer though.

Remember, Apple have a 14 day return policy if you’re not satisfied, so if you bought an S8/9/SE2 and didn’t get on with the battery life you can always return it.

Going round the houses with my issue. Firstly my IMac, iPad and iPhone calendars all sync and I have the same info on all.

However if I log on to iCloud the calender is completely empty. I can create an entry in iCloud and it appears in my devices but can’t create something on any device which appears in iCloud.

I’ve deleted my gMail account on devices and reinstalled but it just isn’t working and Gmail doesn’t show as a calender (just work and home)
Its not a big issue as I don’t use the iCloud calender through a browser but it’s just frustrating not being able to figure it out.

Always late to the party, I've just discovered I can mirror my macbook on my smart tv but it disconnects when I close he macbook. Is there a way to keep the connection?
Yes, what you’re looking for is seemingly called ‘clamshell mode’. There’s an app in the App Store called Amphetamine that allows clamshell mode on battery.

Thanks, will give it a go
No worries. I’ve tried it myself (I’ve only had a Macbook for a couple of weeks) and it definitely works. It puts a little icon in the top right hand menu bar. Click that to open the options menu and away you go.

Thanks for that, I’ll look at the SE2 specs
Another thing to consider is that some of the newer Apple Watches have fast charging. I only have a Watch 7 and with the fast charger I only have to charge it for a short time each day when I am getting ready.

In fairness, it must take a while to dry your hair, get your fake eye-lashes, make-up and lippy on... ;)
