Yes
Petapixel;

"the camera will indeed sport an 18-mp APS-C sensor, articulating touchscreen LCD, 9 cross-type AF points and a better “hybrid” AF system for live view and video recording. But the specs we hadn’t yet heard of include: ~5fps continuous shooting, ISO 100-12,800 (expandable to 25,600), and the same viewfinder and metering system found in the previous Rebel T3i"

Should be good.

Forgive my ignorance :-) but what are the key improvements? Doesn't the 600D have most of that already?

I don't own one so I may well be wrong.

Nope.

Main improvements are in the AF and shooting speed and the touchscreen. All cross type AF points are a major bonus for an entry level model.

The enhanced AF should allow also AF while shooting video.

Also has the Digic 5 processor.

Quite a major leap for the xxxd range.

I like the fact canon have made the on off switch 3 steps now, on, off and video mode. My dad has just brought a 600d this week, having a play and I quite like it, but I like the sound of this 650d. Will be interesting to see if they have stuck with the same sensor or gone with a new one,

apart from the AF, a pentaprism as well... this looks like its going to be a huge leap for an entry level dslr, I may be tempted to buy one when the price comes down, as I am currently dslr-less.

maybe your dad should return his 600d... its the worst time to buy one really, the price of a 600d will go down now the 650D is released, and it seems the 650d will be a huge improvement.

I know what you mean, I mentioned the 650d to him earlier, he seems happy with it, and for what he will be using it for will suit him fine. I could be tempted though.

That does look interesting, not what I'd expect for an xxxD.

Excites me about what the 7DmkII might be like :p

Thanks for the explanation. I missed the touch screen bit and disk realise the rest if it was new on the xxxD series.

It does sound good.

 It's going to be awesome! I have wanted a 7d for ages, but I went out and brought my 50-500 instead of upgrading the body, now I need a new body. !
Damn I cant use that excuse, spent too much again recently, will be a 'next years' bonus treat if I'm lucky

How many times have you said that to yourself? Sounds like the way I think too

Then it ends up being, oh I'll give myself an advance on that bonus and not get one when my bonus comes through. Then by the time it comes through you realise you've bought another five things! *sigh* the money bit that is photography! Still, worse things we could be spending our money on! That's my justification.

I know I KNOW :D

The improved AF system is gonna be huge! Looking forward to this even though I only just bought my first ever DSLR hahaha damn it!

Not liking the idea of touch screen though, I reckon it's going to be abit fiddly =/

i really think touch screen will be good
Due to the mobile phones being touch screen I have a tendency to touch the screen on my camera when going through the options lol

Not a fan of touch screens at all, certainly not on something like a camera, but the spec sounds really good for the XXXD range.

looks good as does the spec
I really do like the idea of touch screen even if some of you old dinosaurs don't roflol

Video AF and touch to focus video would make video fans very happy!

whats wrong with touch screen? i bet u use a touch screen device already

I'm the same with some things. I love my iPhone but on a camera I would prefer the feel of a real button.

People said the same years ago about phones, now look at the smart phone market - dominated by touch screen devices. The same will probably happen to cameras over time.

Some nice features but seems abit pricey to me, more than the 600D when that came out?

I noticed the price earlier looking on camera price buster, only £20 less than a 60d body, but of course it always starts at list price and will then drop, once that happens I reckon it will really do well. I look forward to reading reviews on this, really interested to know how the high iso compares.

Maybe, but I had an early touchscreen phone and didn't like that either. In fact there's only
Apple products I like that are touchscreen.

According to my wife, I don't like change much so for now I'll be happy with real buttons :-)

I think this is a very useful feature I want one

Canon’s First Touch-Screen DSLR

Another Canon first, the EOS Rebel T4i includes a best-in-class Vari-angle Touch Screen 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor II featuring 1.04 million dot resolution for unparalleled, clear viewing. The electro-static touch-panel screen is the most advanced that Canon has released to date with multi-touch capabilities allowing photographers to use familiar gestures such as “pinch-to-zoom” and “swiping” to scroll between pictures. Camera operation has been simplified through this feature allowing for Touch Focus or Touch Shutter controls via the vari-angle touch-screen. The vari-angle touch-screen flips out to the left and rotates 180 degrees forward and 90 degrees backward, making tough above-the-head and low-to-the-ground shots easy, and allowing improved views during photo or video capture. That means the overhead shot taken in a crowd or at a graduation march just got a little easier to shoot.

bet nikon release something similar

I read about this the other day. I currently have an 1100D and while I love it I already have the bug for upgrading (although I think some of this is wanting to run before I can walk) so I am trying to eeek it out as much as possible before buying a new camera. I think I should get better at using my 1100 before hand.

I have to say I am excited about this one, a new sensor, touch screen and I know any of the other cameras have it but compared to mine a vari angled screen would come in useful for me at times. So this could well be the one I upgrade to.

Going to wait for it to come down in price though first and get some more use out of this camera!
