Canon EOS M Series Cameras

I think I found them. Photodix ones?

I thought that is very cute. Direct EOS M mount, even though they do not really offer very good macro lenses, and 2 tubes instead of three. Very cute.

Remember you will lose a lot of light with those as the EF-M lenses available aren't fast anyway. Look for a good light already.

I have EF ones and since I have the EF adapter I use these with much better, faster glass for my macros.
The better option sometimes is a macro bellows with a specialised piece of macro/enlarging glass. Look at my Snail Shoot blog post linked to above. Remember I was using TWO flashguns and light from the window and ISO800 to get a good exposure at all.

Yep, they're the ones.

I also bought the Missus a set for her 100d. I have the adapter, so I could try them as well.

As far as lighting goes, I sold my flashes at the same time as selling my 7d and EF lenses. I do still have 5-6 soft-box lights though so should be fine. Plus I live in a very light house with large windows no natural light shouldn't be to much of a problem when the weather improves.

Talking of weather, is gorgeous here today so hopefully I'll find a bit of time to get later :)
(I guess I should do some work first)

I just bought a set with a 10mm & 16mm in it (the ones with electrics in, wanted aperture control).

I don't really have any questions, just fancied trying something different from my usual landscapes. Might have a few questions once I have them ;)

I found a thread on a different forum where a guy was using a similar set on the M with pretty good results.

Extension tubes and my 100L macro seem to work well, and it makes for a light setup. I tried my MP-E last night on it just for the hell of it, but I couldn't get it to work reliably. It might just be me though, so I'll have to have another go at it. Maybe it's because it's a MF lens? It would be a nice setup on a tripod or hand held. And useful as I now don't have a crop body for macro!

I had a quick go with my M and MP-E when I first got it ... pic here from earlier in the thread.

Ah yes, I thought someone had done it earlier in the thread ;)

I must have done something wrong last night. I was indoors and light was a big issue. Also my flash batteries were playing up which didn't help. Will try again tonight.

That was taken with the little 90EX flash attached to the M, didn't bother with the MT-24EX. Bought a cheap little diffuser off Ebay, surprisingly good really. :)

Focus peaking would be nice though, as would the ability to auto stack ... may have a look at ML.

Camera with kit lens and flash is now down to £180 at Argos (black version only, others are still £200).

Not sure how much stock there is though; doesn't seem to be any that close to me.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I had been trying to resist but at that little bit cheaper I cannot. Luckily there was one in stock not too far from me so I'll go pick it up tomorrow.

Fingers crossed it's to clear out old stock to make way for a new M3

I do hope so.

Got to think the most likely venue for it's release is probably CP+ in Japan next month?
I think it's on all of our wish lists!!! My 70D is staying at the moment, however if an M v3 was similar spec then I would be at a real cross roads. And of course price will be an important factor!

Come on Canon, you know you want to release an M v3!!

I'm in 2 minds whether to buy another or wait for a M3

Put a EVF, flippy screen and focus peeking on a M1 and I would be well happy.

Add on grip would be nice as well ... although highly unlikely.
Those things sound like an M3 to me lol. I reckon if I go and buy another M, then the M3 is sure to be announced about 1 week later, always happens like that!!

I'd be happy with an optional EVf (hot shoe job) as long as it had a tilting screen. I've kind of got used to using the LCD and being able to hold the camera above my head etc to take a shot, but in direct sunlight I find the M almost unusable. I think a tilting screen would solve this but an optional EVF as well would be perfect (for me).

Combine this with the innards of the 70d and Wi-Fi tethering and it would have to be ridiculously over priced for me not buy it straight away,

I think you should test your theory :D

This is incredibly tempting, especially as I have a £10 Argos voucher burning a hole in my pocket. Would make a nice home for the kit lens that isn't getting much use lol!

I have 2 x M bodies with the 22mm peemanently on the red body.

Just need my leg workibg and I will be ecstatic.

Will buy the M3 soonest it's available.

For viewfinder issues I have a black microfibre towel which my daughter created an elasicated "neck which gives me a pullover for rhe lens and a hood for tbe screen area. Bit retro but it works.

Cost £3.75

Ideal when using my monopod and extra easy with a tripod. Great for wrapping tbe camera and straight into my bag.

Had a minor meltdown last night with my M. Had an issue where the camera wouldn't start, light constantly flashed green but nothing happened. Numerous attempts of removing SD card, battery etc didn't seem to resolve it, then all of a sudden it seemed to work ok. Just tried it again this morning and all ok.

Anyone else experienced same thing?

Only issue I have had was the camera shutting down of it's own accord in the original black body M I bought. I now have a second M in red.

The battery was fully charged but kept occurring at odd occassions.

Noticed it only happened with an unbranded one a friend gave me which came off his 100D.

Suspected it was the battery as it never repeated with the original Canon one fitted or the ExPro batteries I have but did when I put the unbranded one back. I disposed of it before getting home. Not had the same issue since and both my M bodies work as they should.

Steve

Even if it's the same price as the original M, when it first came out?;)

Yes

Living with the M has effected a massive change in my choices.

I have already sold 3 DSLRs and am about to sell more kit incl lenses. I already have more cash ready for the M3 than the original M price, which also includes the balance of my 70D fund which I raided for my red M purchase. So building funds for an expected release of M mount primes alongside the M3 is next stage.

Zero effort really.

I am keeping my 50D and am keeping my STM EF-S lenses for the M kit. Perhaps my 70-300 IS till a long reach EF-M arrives.

Now if Canon don't get behind the M then Fuji will be in my redirection but I am very hopeful of a full M system.

The lighter bag is permament for me now.

Steve

I agree with you totally on this, Steve. I also think that Canon would be missing a great opportunity if they failed to expand on the mirror less system. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the M system and if tweaked a bit, it could probably be used on a full frame body.

:agree:, but it would be a fantastic camera.
Not so sure. It would have to be substantially bigger than the current M to accommodate the larger sensor, and wouldn't take existing M lenses as they won't cover full-frame. Normal Canon EF lenses are designed to allow for the mirror box, so any full-frame M would probably end up needing to use another new lens system design...

Anyone got plans to be out with their M's this weekend? Another weekend stuck at work for me, although might get to sneak out for few shots!

Weather not looking promising though.

That didn't last for long :(

Posted that earlier in the Shopping thread. Was surprised at how quick it went but still a steal at £200.

All my local shops have stock excepting the white body.

My neighbour loves his £180 bargain!

Grotty weather here so with mycrook knee I am going to try and do some PP tomorrow. Going stir crazy .

Tempted to do some South Coast visits next week.

Might get out this weekend, but don't have my M with me. Have the 50D instead.

My only DSLR I have now is my 50D. I am getting more and more use with my M system though I will keep the 50D... for now.

Steve

Anyone manage to get some M time today? I didn't take mine to work so didn't get any shots.
