Discreet Camera bags

Yes
Im new to SLR cameras and am after a discreet camera to house my 7d with a 15-85 lens and possibly one or two other small lenses in the future such as a 50mm f1.4 and a 10-22/20mm. Im sure this will expand over time but theres so much i would want to take out and about anyway (i think).

Ive looked at the Billingsham? which im not keen on to be honest - just as well because theyre not cheap! The idea is that i dont want it to look like a camera bag and preferably without obvious branding logos on it.

What would u guys recommend?

Thanks in advance

Crumpler do some good over the shoulder bags that don't look like camera bags - I've got a Crumpler Loyal Chap & that'll hold your 7D with lens and space for another 2-3 lenses as well as accessories, depending on size of course.

Mine quite easily accomodates my 7D with 24-105L attached, my Tokina 12-24 and Canon 70-200 f/4 as well as a bunch of accessories - plenty for a day's shooting.

I've also got a Lowepro Flipside 400 AW backpack which is a real workhorse and will take the above as well as my 100-400L and pretty much anything else I throw at it - weighs a bloody ton with all the gear in though!!!

Depends whether you want small and discrete, or something that might not be obvious that it is a camera bag to those that don't know.
I find the Lowepro Top Loader zoom 2 covers the small and discrete for me. I can squeze in the 7d, 28-135, 10-22 and 50/1.8, with batteries and cards to spare. The 17-55 2.8 IS instead of the 10-22 is more of a squeeze.

For something that doesn't look like a camera bag, crumpler do a whole range, in some quite funky colours (I have the big cheese myself, which fits everything I have, including the 100-400L, 70-300, 580 EXII, 15" laptop). It is well designed, easy to use and easy to carry, even when loaded to 13Kg.
It doesn't look like a camera bag.
However, the crumpler bags do tend to either have the crumpler logo stiched on them, or zip-pulls with the crumpler logo on them (the logo isn't photographically obvious). If someone has a crumpler bag, they will know it is a crumpler bag.

I got a new Lowepro 200 Slingshot off eBay for less than 20 quid. There are no logos or anything like that on it; it just looks like a grey rucksack. They're about £70 with the logo on!

eBay item number: 170542608028

Depends on whether you prefer a backpack or shoulder bag but Crumpler do a full range of bags that look nothing like typical camera bags, while Think Tank's 'Retrospective' and 'Urban Disguise' range are very discreet slim bags. I have a Retrospective in pinestone, which is a beige-y colour that looks like a casual shoulder bag.

Thanks guys

I like the look of the retrospective and the pinestone colour is nice but I've seen some photos that don't look anything like it's shown on the website!

I had the same issue in that I spend a fair amount of time travelling through London so wanted something that didn't scream "nick me". I did a lot of shopping around and eventually went with one of the crumples which have a removable insert. New Delhi 512 which is big enough for a fair amount of kit. The insert comes out and fits nicely into a man bag I use just for carrying my usual junk.

 How about a Kata 3N1-30 or the 20, 10

I manage to get my gear in it & still have plnety of room left for more gear... Just a thought

Sloper - Is that a Lowepro just minus the branding, or a lookalike. Seems like a bargain but almost too cheap ?. Might be tempted if it is good.

May be little too small, but I just picked up Lowepro Terraclime 100 from Jessops which is currently on sale there for a tenner. Fits my Canon 20D with 50mm prime attached and has space for an extra lens and some pockets for batteries and filters. Also apparently made out of recycled bottles if you like your stuff environmentally friendly.

not keen on the lowepro classfied badgey/strappy thing.

im leaning towards the thinktank retrospective right now.....i know im picky

How about Jessops Trek 2 backpack, Iv'e just bought one and it looks like a normal rucksack and not an obvious camera bag. I believe the Redsnapper Verso is about the same, both available at about £30.

Just like to offer my congratulations on your correct spelling of the word 'discreet'. As in unbotrusive, unremarkable, not prominent as opposed to 'discrete' as in separate. :D

Yeah, I know I'm a spelling kn0b head! What of it?! :boxer:

Id also like one of these bags but with a tripod strap on the outside. Which kind of defeats the object I suppose!

Excuse me?

I have a friend who does a lot of photography work in London for "ladies who do specialist dancing" he carries his gear about in ordinary shopping bags, a bit extreme but he is of the belief that any backpack / bag although it may not look like a camera bag may look like it has laptop or other valuables etc in it and hence is just as vulnerable.

I noticed that too, but didn't want to say anything

I haven't put it next to a known Lowepro, but I've compared it in You Tube videos, read all of the eBay seller's feedback and also seen it recommended elsewhere (can't remember). Everyone seems to claim it's a genuine Lowepro, just minus the logo. Quality is perfect, equal to the Lowepro TLZ I also have.

For less than £20 you can't go wrong, can you?
