I’ve met Gary Gough and a lovely chap, but I don’t find his pictures particularly inspiring, same with First Man. Thomas Heaton can take some flak but he is a very good photographer. Simon and Nigel are both excellent too, so far I’ve not come across other landscape vloggers producing photos on the level of those three

Owen Clarke https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq0fe3NKsmzRP6zb2ODOsew

Explains his images and makes a change from the usual mountain regions....especially so if you don't live close to anywhere hilly [emoji3]

Indeed....who said landscapes had to have hills in them?! :D
I live in Norfolk which is known to be a bit on the flat side....so this is just what I need., thank you for posting this.

We do have a lot of skies around here....so....silver linings and all that!:p

Been enjoying James R Burns, very good photographer and visits quiter parts of The Lakes and Yorkshire

What's this fashion for landscape vlogging all about? Being curious, I've sampled several authors and find that their output tends to be ill-produced, over-exposed, has gratuitous drone footage and irritating muzak ... and is so utterly, utterly boring and pointless. What happened to standards? I'm steering clear.

If I'm in a rut the good ones give me a push to get out. Youtube is one of the best ways to get your name out there so if you're going pro or selling workshops it's just like any other form of social media, you want to be on it. I think most listed on this page make decent content, though some can make you cringe at times.

Cheer up, it's Christmas! Besides, hardly any are paid to do it, most have full-time jobs, and hardly any have had any form of media production training whatsoever. So, the fact they are doing it at all is a minor miracle. It's also fun to do.

Good call, James is a really nice chap, quirky, and well worth a watch.

Alwyn wallace. Astro photographer from Wales. Some cool milky way landscapes

Again, good call. Alwyn is one of the best Astro folks out there. Lovely lad too.

Totes :agree:

I find them all boring as fk and most are full of annoying crap about their dog, or being tired or some other s***e that has nothing to do with photography - so thanks for posting that @droj as I was beginning to think it was only me :D

Well, I can't go that far! But some of it drives me nuts, especially the 'music' and aimless monologue. I know from experience that making a video often takes plenty of discipline in the field and reasonable editing skills at the computer. So I admire them for that.

Building a loyal subscriber base must be very motivational. All the better if most of the output is informative, real-world and entertaining, especially for beginners.

I've enjoyed videos by Craig Prentis, Simon Booth and Renegade Scot. They don't grate on me. I've also watched NatureTTL and James Brew. Away from photography I can definitely recommend venture4wd, while Erik Normark and Crafty Veggie can be good therapy.

For me Nigel Danson would rate as the best channel, due to combination of interesting content and knowledge sharing plus his images are generally very high standard

Simon Baxter is the master of tree and woodland photography but has not posted any content for a while

Not many new ones to add that have not already been mentioned

Chris Sale really tries hard and comes across well on his videos but find his images are just not that strong most of the time

Jason Jones lives in Snowdonia and I’m interested in lots of locations that he regularly visits, but his style and images are not up there with others

Not sure what droj had to say as he's on my ignore list but there's so much waffle on the few of these videos that I've taken a peek at. Really, life IS too short.

Come back Thomas Heaton, all is forgiven.......

lol - actually Heaton was the first I saw after seeing the TH thread on here - can't stand watching him either - after admitting that I'll be on your ignore list too now :D

On a more serious note, I have no issue with the thought process and even technical process explanations of such volgs, its just the rest full of nothing specifically photo related that bugs me as I just want them all to get on with the photo bits; maybe cos as I'm now in my 50s I haven't enough life left for nonsense!

In that case I agree with him.

That's very unlikely! My ignore list is very short..

Anybody else watched fototripper on YT? I watched a couple of his vids following a link from Thomas Heaton. Like all photographers, not all the results are to my taste but his videos are very down to earth and full of humour. If, like me, you watch vlogs for 10 mins of light entertainment about a subject you love then he's well worth a watch.

I think this is a great thread, to whoever started it - Thank you.
I think TV is full of rubbish so it is good to dip in ad out of these vlogs during the evening. True some of them are full of waffle but that's what the FF button is for. If I get just one bit of knowledge or inspiration from them then it's been worth the watch, first hand knowledge can cut years off the learning curve. I think it is a bit discourteous to knock these guys, after all you have not paid anything to watch the vlog, indeed it is them that have paid all the costs, I can suffer the ads and sponsored recommendations for this, I am old enough to make my own mind up.
I am going to Glencoe for a few days next month and watching a few of these vlogs has given me a good idea of places I would like to visit during this trip when time will be tight. To be fair the excellent fotovue "photographing Scotland" (see now I am advertising, maybe they will sponsor my trip)! has been very useful and will be in my bag but that cost me £27 the vlogs are free!

I'm currently experimenting with video production and vlogging on the adventures with my camera, and thoroughly enjoy it, from the technical challenges, (never done video before) to the self inspection it forces upon you and also to the self development I hope it will produce going forward, however I'm the first to admit my videos/vlogs suck!

Reading the comments above, It's easy to criticise others and an opinion is just that. But unless you have given it a go yourself some of the comments are a little on the mean side.
Anyone who puts themselves into the realms of the 'real world' on youtube and social media 'et el' where your very character and conduct is scrutinised by the masses I tip my hat off to you. A thick skin is indeed needed, and I'd argue to be successful in all walks of live a necessity.

The following short quote by Emmet Fox is quite apt I think . 'Criticism is an indirect form of self-boasting'

Surprised no-one has mentioned Ben Horne! He's medium/large format film photographer. His images are interesting and delicate. A very humble guy that's not flashy or commercial like the masses. I find his videos fairly relaxing. He just takes things in his stride.

Nigel Danson has been mentioned already but he's a top guy.

Entertaining indeed. But I could understand he isn't everyone's cup of tea! First heard of him through Adam Gibbs - We do like his vlogs, very down to earth, informative & genuine.

Most of the other's have already been mentioned - Heaton, Baxter, Danson, Nick Page, Sean Tucker (though not strictly landscape!) Alyn Wallace.....

Not entirely photography but I think still interesting and relevant:

Scotland's Mountains

Absolutely love this guy. He has to be the most cheerful, optimist chap I’ve seen on YT. His drone footage is mind blowing at times. I can say he really has inspired me to stop being so bloody lazy with my photography and push myself further and harder to get to these phenomenal locations

Nick Page, he also produces the landscape photography podcast which can be downloaded or listened to on his web page.

Photogadventures is also a favorite of mine over the last couple of years but they do seem to be leaning towards more overt commercialization if their channels with their Patreon scheme and subscription website.
