Mamiya Medium Format owners group

I'm using the 180 a lot for portraits.

Which 3 lens package for RB67 Pro s for scapes ?

It depends more on you than the subject. I don't buy into the "strong foreground interest" school of photography, and use the 110mm lens on my RZ67 for the vast majority of my photographs; my 50mm doesn't get a lot of use. For me, a three lens outfit would be 110/90mm (95% of photographs), 150mm (4%) and 50mm (>1%).

:ty:
Thank you all for replies much appreciated. Better half [bless her] has offered to buy me ONE for Xmas so if I buy myself one as well
I should be sorted at present I have 90 and a 127.

Albi

I have told Santa Claus a 65 would be very nice thank you

Ordered Pan f film so what developer do you recommend Will be home developing with a Jobo
Many thanks

Rodinal wouldn't be my first choice with 35mm, but I'm very happy with the results from 6x6 and above with PanF and FP4. But see this thread on possible problems. If I didn't use Rodinal, my second choice would probably be to give HC110 a try, although I've never used it.

I might be getting a Mamiya Press on loan. My mum's neighbour is moving house and has one in the loft. He has been storing it for a friend and it has been there since 1976 so I have no idea if it works after such a length of inaction.

He says he can't sell it or give it away as his friend might want it back but he is happy to let me look after it.

He hasn't seen his friend for the best part of 40 years and doesn't even know if he's still alive!

That might be has turned into a definitely.

Unfortunately, I have to wait until April when he returns to the UK!

I'm getting it on the understanding that if his friend who he hasn't seen for 45 years turns up and wants it back, he can have it. I think it's very unlikely.

Steve.

Which 120 film would you reccommend for B/W landscapes/seascapes.

Difficult one really, I rather like Acros 100 and also Fomapan 100 or 200 but others will I'm sure have other opinions. I think it's probably best to try a few until you find one that you like.

^^^WHS^^^ you really can't go wrong with Acros.

Which 120 film would you reccommend for B/W landscapes/seascapes.

Unless you have really tight control over all of the variables involved in film photography, what you do (e.g., exposure, development, scanning, printing, etc.) will be more important than any film choice. Virtually any film can be used for landscapes/seascapes dependent upon how you decide to utilise it.

Personally, I do rather like Acros because of its reciprocity characteristics, but that advantage is meaningless if you don't shoot longer exposures.

Although if you are going for that 10 stopper look then consider fomapan for the very reasons people prefer acros. Reasonably long exposures become very long exposures with fomapan.

Thank you all for replies Looks like Acros 100 Will order a five box also a 5 pack Fomapan 100 this evening
Now which dev do I use and can I use same for both brands.
Will send a roll of each to lab for deving to compare or see if I can see a difference on a A4 print.
Thanks again.

General opinion on film developers is very varied. I tend to use Rodinal which, as far as I know, can be used on any B&W film. Film developers can generally be used on any film unless it's specifically stated (which I'm yet to hear about?)

It also depends on what you want to get out of the final frame. Rodinal, for example, will enhance the grain of the negative so it's best used on lower ISO films when shooting smaller frames.

Using Rodinal developer what fix chemical would be best to use or is fix- fix whichever one uses - also if I use stop wash do I have to do a water wash before the fix. Also am I right I am using Jobo processor a -15% is advised in the development stage?
Almost there with the questions. lol Sorry if I have been boring you.

Fix is fix - I use Ilford Rapid fix though

No wash needed after stop, some say a quick rinse makes fix last longer but I haven't noticed

15% sounds about right, depends which rotation speed you use though.

Just been presented with a Zeiss Ikon folder to add to my collection It has a Nettar - Anastigmat f4.5- f32 lensmax speed 175.
All working well the bellows feel and sound a little brittle is this normal Will run a pound shop film through soon and test. Am I lucky
or not to receive a prezzie before Xmas

Hi All:)!

I've recently been given a Mamiya ZE camera. I think it's from the 1980s. It has a little suitcase full of lenses and attachments. I put a film in it and have taken some photos but I haven't finished the film yet; I hope to do so on Wednesday when I meet a photographer friend; we go out and about and take photos of old churches mainly.

I took it into a specialist camera shop in Worcester ('London Camera Exchange') and they thought there might be some 'lining' damage. I'll see when the film is developed.

Any views on this model?

I had film cameras in the past but I'm a digital convert! My latest camera is a Panasonic Lumix. I also have an 'old' Canon Powershot (charity shop job!); a Canon Ixus 105 and an Olympus Mju ii, inherited from my mum!

I love all cameras and don't want the Mamiya to go to waste. Any tips:confused:?

TIA;)

Hi Elizabeth, I don't know much abou tthis camera, although Mamiya certainly made some great cameras. Check out the "first film camera" thread that can be found in the resources sticky on this page, or via the link I hope I have provided!

Thanks very much, Chris - will do:)!

There were a few ZE derivatives that I remember. The ZE was the first iteration from around 1980. I'm pretty certain it was aperture priority auto only. The ZE-2 was around 6 months later.. still in 1089 as I recall. It has manual shutter speeds added from 1sec to 1/1000th. It may have been 1/2000th now, but I can't remember. Which is yours, the ZE or ZE-2?

Around 1 or 2 years later, they brought the ZE-X out that added shutter priority and a program mode.

The ZE-2 and ZE-X are the ones that are probably the most valuable (as much as any 35mm film slr is valuable these days), as the ZE only has that aperture priority auto mode. It's still a great camera. In fact the first proper SLR I ever owned was aperture priority only (a Pentax MV). You can still learn a great deal from it.

Most of the Sekor E lenses were very sharp as I recall too.

Hi David:)! Thanks very much for this!

I'm not sure:confused:! On the front, it just says 'Mamiya ZE'. I'll have another look tonight. I hope to finish the film on Wednesday when I go out with my Box Brownie photographer friend!

A nice little mint quick shoe just arrived from Japan. In time for the nutters meet in January :)

Getting hard to find stuff like this now! Try finding diopter adaptors for a RB/X waist level finder!.. seems impossible,

Indeed, but every now and then these gems pop up in their original boxes. And I'm a sucker for it :)

Oh, ok... I could do with one of them then.
There are several of those brand new and boxed on eBay. Both for prism and WLF.

I have no use for it.

me too for the RB67 prism...I'll wait a month or two two in case someone here wants to bid now.
You go for it Brian... I certainly won't be out with the RZ this side of Christmas as I'm out of action... but I'll be keeping my eye on ebay.

Only one advert and it's in the US and starting bid £40 h'mm I got the whole prism for less than that...so a bit expensive for me :( so back to you Lee.
