My new studio

I'm going to extend the white backdrop/curve/train another 4 foot (120cm for the young'uns) and paint that the same white
If I'd had my act together it would have gone down already
I was going to then cover it with white acrylic but that is veeeeeery expensive
Homebase do 4mm perspex sheet for a fraction of the cost so I'll give that a whirl (it'll be on top of the MDF so I can remove it if wanted)
then the rest of the floor will be carpeted - probably carpet tiles so I can replace them easily

then we're down to furniture - chair, sheepskin rug, casting couch...

sound good, cheers mate (y)

EPIC! Not jealous at all :p Fair play, I think you've done a fantastic job for yourself there. Now just roll in the models!

why thank you kind sir!

models he says - fresh out of budget now
might have to investigate this "time for CD" lark

plan A is to use the cyclorama (ooh get me!) 'au naturel' to start with
I've been reading the "light - science and magic" book so there's lots to try
Should be able to achieve white, grey and black if I do my homework right
Next up will probably be coloured gels on the backlights

I'm an expert!

I look forward to your photo's matey.

gotta love the quote button....!!

Update:

IMG_2482.jpg

decided that two doors wan't going to work so removed, recycled and rebuilt
now has one door
needs more green stuff to match the rest of the outside

installed shed bolt for security (whoever suggested that - excellent idea!)

security light installed as well
wiring that up was fun
a) refused to work
b) then triggered the RCB
had a peer at the wiring - one of the neutral wires had escaped and was shorting to ground- :bonk:
re-attached it works a treat now - will wander out later and see if it can see me

the march of the slabs continues unrelentingly - should pass by the front door tomorrow then wander towards the house

once that's done the water butt can move to its final resting place (cue sombre music) and the downpipe can feed it with water

nearly a week without an update :( ....perhaps there's a long list of finishing touches

hee hee 90% finished
last 10% should take about as long again
inside just needs a little more MDF then carpet tiles can go down
then work benches go in
then.....

the outside is coming along nicely :) Looking forward to seeing the inside when it's done ... I expect you are too !

Hi there can you tell me what white you used on the background wall and why please.

[drum roll]
ladies and gentlemen (and those who have yet to decide)
I proudly present
[/drum roll]

the studio!:
IMG_2483.jpg

the LiteGlaze on the left is transparent acrylic to go on the floor (once the backing paper has been removed)

and what the model sees:
IMG_2484.jpg

the Vax and carpet tiles will disappear tomorrow
need to do the last line of carpet in daylight

and what the neighbours see
IMG_2489.jpg

the water butt will go on the black pedestal once the mortar between the slabs has dried

the orange sacks are copious quantities of builder's droppings - not a permanent feature

what ya think?

me- chuffed to bits!

Hi there can you tell me what white you used on the background wall and why please.

very boring
Brilliant white matt emulsion (Homebase's finest)

that way I can blow the background if I want pure white
or (in theory at least) get any shade of grey, including black (I have doubts about black - but time will tell!)

Don't forget the lock on the inside to keep the riffraff out
Or better still CCTV so you can see if any one is approaching

And so you should be Mike... (y) ...that is a fine job after much effort and angst so... ...mine's a glass of bubbly please... :naughty:

Seriously looks the dogs m8... ...bet you can't wait to get your first model in there... :cautious:

AND another stoopid non-spurt question... why would you want acrylic on the floor...

Well done on getting it to completion... ;)

:p

Beautiful mate. Well done

thanks your greenness!
champagne reception to mark the opening is already being negotiated!
acrylic is to give the floor a little bit of shine
just enough to give a gentle reflection
not enough to see up your frock!

(picked up the hint from Zack Arias btw - excellent web site)

I have really enjoyed following your venture and must remark on how tidy you have been throughout. The garden gives no sign of the amount of work that has went on.. Top marks:clap:

aha - I got 4mm thick - is that what you use?
how does it stand up to wear and tear?

I went for the 2mm . Plenty strong enough for what i do and gives the reflection i wanted...

md

crikey!
where do you store it when its not in use?
or is it a permanent feature now?

permanent feature

But to be honest i only go in the garage once or twice if lucky a week...

hmmmmm must change that soon...
