Nifty 50mm on tour?

I'd happily join in. Planning on travelling through South East Asia in December.. so please book it in with me from 15th December to 5th Jan. (Dates might change slightly) (y)

Brilliant idea and I look forward to seeing the results of the world tour. Do you think it might like a companion? .....like the Monkeh! I bet the Monkeh would enjoy a world tour on a nifty fifty as it seemed quite at home at the NEC lounging across the humungas Sigma.

Pray, what is a "Monkeh"?

Has anyone thought of contacting the Guiness Book Of Records? lol

The worlds most travelled lens! Da da!!

That the kind of record you were hoping to achieve?

That's a bit premature, don't you think? Let's first get the niftyfifties on tour and collect a couple hundred exposures from all over the globe. Then we may have something tangible to submit for consideration. Right now that's still just hot air/wishful thinking...

I had a quick look on e-bay, doesn't look like there are any second hand ones on there at the moment, a new one would be about £75 though, which is still reasonable if enough people chip in. I'll keep an eye out for a 2nd hander though and if I see one I'll grab it while it's on.

I reckon I could show some Canon love and donate to the Nikon fund.....£5 + the existing £10 = Nikon fund = £15.....

Kerso does them at around £60 I think

Lets all hunt for a lens now....

Hi 6ft,

so you're not going on safari, or to the Emirates, or somewhere else exotic soon? OK, then your challenge – should you choose to accept it – is to shoot a shopping spree in the high street.
That's very exotic to the average Kikuyu or Arab! Almost pornographic...

Have fun!

BRILLIANT I'M THERE. WHEN CAN I HAVE IT!!

Cool - have a good trip Mike.

Well, I did say it was full of Saharan sand and made a noise accordingly :)

Hey... it's not just us and the immediate users that benefit from this world tour! How about getting Canon's and Nikon's Public Relations departments to donate/loan us the travelling niftyfifties . . . ? It's great brand publicity/PR for those guys!

Anyone of you Brits in a position to lay that plan before the Canon UK or Nikon UK Public Relations department?

:naughty: Dreams of a 50mm 1.2 :naughty:

Hmmm convincing them to part with kit could be tricky (although it is cheap stuff....no disrespect to those who have/offered donated kit) ...i'll have a play with words in my head see if I can come up with anything....

Have fun on your NYC trip!

^^ Thats a bloody good idea!

however, I suck at writing letters/emails :bonk:

Having been a PR/advertising guy like that for 20 years I can tell you that (snail) mail or email won't get you anywhere! You need to talk to them! Ideally in person, face-to-face. But over the phone at the very least! You need human contact.

Use email to confirm any talk you had with them. Don't breach the subject via email.

mmmm I quite agree...maybe someone who has more phone experience should try?

I tend to umm a bit on the phone whilst i'm thinking...

Don't want to mess it up for everyone..

Excellent, matty! Make sure you get some person of authority on the line. Enthuse him/her. Sell the idea!

Good luck!

Good luck with Nikon matty! We're all behind you, we Canonites

[S2]...not![/S2]

:D

In the seventies Nikon's rise to the fore of global photography was based on the image of ruggedness and reliability of their cameras and lenses.
Let's see and show the world how they fare today against numero uno competitor Canon.

The Canon N/F's grating Sahara sand is a PR coup for starters! I must admit.
(Supposing the photos hold up, of course).

The Nikon N/F will be hard pressed to catch up on that.

Sorry, been a bit lame at checking up on this over the week... bl**dy work.

Good luck Matty, I hope you get somewhere with this.

I'm off to Canada next Saturday (15th) so if we have something by then (or your kind donation if we don't) then I would be glad to take it off to the snowy rockies!!!

hey all you nifty-fiftyers! I'm at the apple store fifth avenue having a great time. The weather's been a bit disappointing so far but it's set to cheer up tomorrow. Got four gigs of raw photos so far - not all with the nifty but a fair few!! Anyway, just wanted to say hi from location number one :D
