...But just over a year ago I happened across one of my favourite photos
Minor chromatic on the leitz, but leitz looks crisper.So, what to make of this? Is it fair to compare an over 40 year old tele prime to a modern tele-zoom? (The pics were taken on a cloudy day. There is some variation in lighting.)
With inflation taken into account, the LEITZ/Leica would be quite expensive, even today.
The performance at f4 shows the progress of the last decades. The same could be said about cars. A high end vintage car would be beaten by a TOYOTA today (ignoring
the upper class interior of the old car.)
I use my old lenses mostly for nostalgic reasons, enjoying the quality, the high-end feeling and remembering they were out of reach for me financially when they were new, in the 70s ...
And I think the LEITZ will still work in 50 years, when the SONY electronics have failed. Please contact me then ... ( )
