Hi, ... (SONY A7R2 - LEITZ (Leica) Elmar-R 4/180 ser#2785799 f 4) :

Not bad for an over 40 year old lens. On Ms with live view it might even be more fun to use. But MF tele lenses are difficult to focus, which is why they were so cheap to buy used,
when the pros went to AF years ago ... ---

Where are these classic car meets ?
In Germany?
(just curious as I could do with more practice on cars ;) )

Hi, the best in my area is this

I have been there for several years.

The one further up north is at Schloß Dyck, but I have no personal experience with that ...

Hi, architecture with (Leica M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Super Wide-Heliar V3 4,5/15 f 8):

I forgot to fit my level gauge :

DSC00446-nex5-s28c.jpg

It sits in the flash shoe. I do not like using it, because it makes the M9 less easy to pocket, and it spoils the looks of the camera.

But if I do not use it, I get very often distorted pictures. (Another solution for me would be to use my SONY A7R2 which has an electronic level gauge (or to buy a
Leica M10-P or -R ... ---))

Very nice... and how much..? ;)

Hi, ... :

I find the price O.K. if the car is well-maintained and rust-free. The running costs are an entirely different matter, though. And finding a specialist for vintage US Fords is difficult.

I like the looks of these cars, but do not want to own one. (With my 300SE Mercedes oldtimer, 30 years old, and my 18 year old V8 youngtimer I can simply go to Mercedes.)

Hi, I wanted to see how the LEITZ (Leica) R Elmar 4/180 compared to the SONY FE 4/70-200 G OSS at f 180mm on the SONY A7R2 (all settings identical).

So, what to make of this? Is it fair to compare an over 40 year old tele prime to a modern tele-zoom? (The pics were taken on a cloudy day. There is some variation in lighting.)

With inflation taken into account, the LEITZ/Leica would be quite expensive, even today.

The performance at f4 shows the progress of the last decades. The same could be said about cars. A high end vintage car would be beaten by a TOYOTA today (ignoring
the upper class interior of the old car.)

I use my old lenses mostly for nostalgic reasons, enjoying the quality, the high-end feeling and remembering they were out of reach for me financially when they were new, in the 70s ...

And I think the LEITZ will still work in 50 years, when the SONY electronics have failed. Please contact me then ... ( :D )

Minor chromatic on the leitz, but leitz looks crisper.
I have the 135mm and I do like using it.. :)
GAS will spark up next year I think for other lenses...

/\ Does look like a nice place to have the reception

Leica typ 240 mp - 28mm voigtlander (I think)

(there was a gathering of people waiting for the prime minister who apparently cycles in to work after lunch... further down - we didn't wait)

I took #1 at the beginning of my walk, #2 at the end, hence the difference in lighting.

Even heavily cropped, the Distagon pic looks quite good. An 18MP allows some cropping, too. But there are differences :

Closer looks. Distagon :

Hi, Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) in Wiesbaden-Biebrich/D (Leica M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Super Wide-Heliar 4,5/15 v3 f 8; crop; level gauge) :

L1023169_DxO-v152-8-c.jpg

I was quite happy with my results, using the simple level gauge shown above.

I could have used the Universal-Sucher (Frankenfinder), which also has a level gauge, however with only one spirit level with concentric circles.
But I do not like it, although it is beautifully engineered...
