Hi, at the theatre in Wiesbaden/D (Leica M9):

The M mount 50s crop show. My opus magnum ( :D ) .Is it a tragedy, a comedy or a farce? We shall see ... --- Act 1:

Summicron 2/50 f 8:

Summarit 2,5/50 :

ZEISS Sonnar 1,5/50 :

ZEISS Planar 2/50 :

No ceteris paribus ... --- I am not sure whether there was always identical PP. But so what? This can also mean that the lenses can be made to perform identically ... ---

Hi, the M mount 50s crop show must go on. Final Act:

Summicron :

Planar :

We see, the 50s crop show is not an Aristotelian drama. It doesn't have 5 acts... Some might say, it is not a crop show, but a crap show, because there was no scientfic testing.

I am a little surprised by the Summarit performance. But this may be more due to me than to the lens ...

One could say that all lenses have their relative strengths and characteristics, not to say weaknesses. So an Alice-in-Wonderland end of the race: "everybody has won" ?

Or am I trying to be diplomatic, not wanting to diss any of my dear lenses???

At least I can say that I do not see compelling reasons to buy another M Mount 50 (at present).

Out in Chester yesterday waiting for my windscreen to be replaced. Street photography with no people is difficult :)

Really like that one Adam.

Really like that one Adam.

Thank you very much Ian,

I should probably crop the crouched figure out on the right though!

Someone riddle me this though... The last few shots I've shared on social media that have been positively received are all 2-3 years old and taken with a camera I hardly use and a lens I don't have anymore... but my more modern work seems to be tumbleweed-tastic in comparison :-D

I suppose (like you say above in your post) street's a bit tricky these days in these covid times

Social Media is a barometer I ignore when trying to determine whether my work is any good or not.

Yeah I hear ya @Harlequin565 , it’s not a key performance metric but a stat nevertheless

I think ultimately that a year of covid restrictions has dulled my eye a little, I need to start seeing like I used too

(rose tinted spectacles might help )

Hi, "old-iron" ... (M9 - Leitz Elmar 4/90 f 4; crop):

(Contrast and Saturation enhanced in PP a little.)

Lovely colours in those boats.

Hi, almost 70 years difference (M 9) +

No ceteris paribus, again ... I had to move back much more with the Elmar. The Elmar works quite well, as long as there is no bright sunlight, (even with mounted lens-hood).

Then, there is a slight haze in the pictures, which one might call tender sharpness ...

Just for the sake of conversation:

Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 and Zeiss Planar 50/2.0

or

Leica Summicron 50/2.0 v.4 ?

I have the Sonnar which I like (small, fast, with some character) but it is a bit fiddly in every day use (mainly the focus shift).

Hi, I have the Sonnar and the Planar. - The Planar is a good lens, too.

The Summicron v4 I do not have. I have v5, which is a good lens, but it can flare at times. The Planar is better in this regard.

The Leica Summarit 2,5/50 is also a good lens, if you want a lower-cost Leica, which flares less than the Summicron v5.

You could also consider the VOIGTLÄNDER Apo-Lanthar 2/50 ... ---
