Sigma 150-600mm contemporary

So I decided to go for the contemporary and its come today! lets hope the weathers kind tomorrow.
I think for just general walk abouts ill be fine using it hand held but for a full days shooting ill carry my monopod, what heads are most people using for these?
a gimbal seems over the top for a monopod, I've got just a normal ball head for it at the moment which ill try for a few days but wondered what everyone else was using?

Everyone's got some great shots in here that really show the versatility of this lens. Gives me the excuse to give this one an airing in another part of the forum...............

And to prove I do come out in the daylight.............
(This one's from last summer - the Sun's losing its spots atm)

I use a gimbal. Works great. Prefer it to my ball head.

Brilliant shots. Great to see something different with this lens.

Just Wow!

PS: There has not been much sunspot lately that an oldie from July ;-), you really need to go out in the daylight!

I was digging out the garden, when a robin came very close to find some goodies in the turned up soil. He was around for a good 20 minutes and my little boy was there too to have a good look at him and listen to him singing. Great little moment. I may try to make a thread for it. Really hard to sieve through 60 pictures of a robin and choose a favorite....
It was pretty cloudy and getting darken so shot fully open iso between 6400 and 10000!

Had a quick hour spare so wandered down to the local pond and managed to get this along with a few others.

Taking some getting used to but this was taken at 600mm and just a small crop to the left and was certainly not possible with anything else I own so very pleased so far.

Shutter speed should have higher as the feathers look to be moving but better than no shot :)

I've seen the images on here from motorsport & eventing, but has anyone used the lens for any other sports such as cricket?

Would probably be too long for football and I'm happy with my 70-200 for that.

So any experiences of sport with it would be of interest to me.

Thanks in advance.

Well I just had a read through this quickly seem a nice lens for £699.

But I am torn between this and the nikon 200-500 is there anyone here who had both be able to comment on this please??

I don't have both but can you honestly say the extra money with be that noticeable in iq
I very much doubt it

I just seen your profile didn't realise you had one the 150-600 better go and see if you got any images on your flickr :)

Liking that!
Was looking at the moon earlier when I was out with the dog. Did think about getting the camera out, but tea was ready when I got back. :)

Thank you,

It wasnt untill some said about the moon on d750 that i looked and it was cloudy outside. then went to get some wood and the clouds had gone so got the sacked off the wood and got the camera out instead

Bought another one Friday, this is my third one now after chopping and changing after HA.......Going to keep it I hope unless the Lotto comes in!

Little test with D500 taken through kitchen window double glazing, so pleased with result. I have just updated the FW through the dock and no other changes made until I have given it a better test, over the next couple of weeks.
