Swapping a 7d for a 5dii?

Yes
I have a very good condition 7d with less than 500 clicks. And a friend has offered to swap me for his 5dii which is very well used with lots of marks and over 200k clicks.

I have thought about this, and I have come to the realisation that I am not sure why I am swapping. I like my camera, I can now use it (well I know how to use it and can control it). And in a few respects the 7d has some stuff I like, such as being able to control off camera flashes (although I've only ever done this to test in my lounge when bored). I don't have a problem with the image quality of the 7d.

So would I get a lot out of the swap? What I am guessing I am asking is what would you do if you were me?

If you don't have a specific reason I wouldn't swap a good condition 7d for a beat up old 5d mkii. If you needed the 5dmkii for better low light performance, higher dynamic range or shallower dof then i'd still have said sell your 7d and get a decent condition 5dmkii.

PS nasty font choice.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will keep the 7d...

Do you prefer this font?

good choice with regards to the camera, shame about the font whats wrong with the standard one?

I just fancied something a bit different. I had a meeting this morning with a marketing "expert" who claims that I should spend lots and lots of money changing fonts on headed paper etc, so I'm playing around seeing if it does make a difference.

Much as I loved my 5D mk 1 and love my mk3 I wouldn't swap a 7D for an old 5D2.

Stupid fonts aside. It is something I need to think about. I love the idea of having the bigger sensor, and have heard great things about the 5dii, the more I look into it the sillier it seems. The biggest thing is, I think I want to swap for no other reason than it's supposed to be better. However I think i will stick with the 7d.

Check the shutter life on the canon and replacement cost, could be an expensive swap :shake:

I would never swap a good condition camera for a old tatter.

I got offered a 5d2 with less than 7k on it for £900 with 2 speedlights, stands and some other kit so sell the 7d for a good price and just put £300 or £400 to it for a good condition one

I have a 7d and a 5d2. I wouldn't have swapped my mint condition 7d for a beat up and 200,000 clicks 5d2. As has been suggested, if you want a 5d2 you'd be better off selling the 7d and buying one that's been looked after.

As for the "marketing expert" and daft fonts. I think they can get chucked in the 'annoying and never to be set free again' bin, tbh. :)

Keep the 7d... besides, are your current lenses suitable for a full frame sensor??

Dunno, I think some of them won't work. I've got a 24-105mm, 50mm 1.4, 70-200 2.8, 100-400, and a 10-22. You guys might know which of them will work. I've read that if it's got a white dot instead of a red dot it will work.

Which do you prefer? And how different is the difference in autofocus? Thanks

I use the 5d2 most of the time, I prefer the photos from it to those from the 7d.
I have no issues with the 5d2 autofocus. I'm not using it for sports but it's been fine for me.

Only red-dot lenses will work on FF - all except the 10-22.

This is a shame. I like that wide angle lens. I am sure canon must sell a comparable red dot lens though. I looked into the 17-40 and everyone said don't do it on a crop camera. Infact without the crop factor the 24-105 might be wide enough for me.

I was going to say most of them sound fine... but looks like I got beat to it !!!

I'd still keep the 7d - that 5dii has done too many clicks imho
