The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

As it's quiet...

Just a little curio from Paddy's Hole. A7III and Sony 24mm f2.8.

The grass looks to be out of focus but it isn't it's sharp front to back. It's just the texture and I suppose the light.

100% crop.

I hope you found that interesting :D

It looks like the nice weather has ended here. This morning we had complete cloud cover and flat light. When I went out this morning I went straight back in to put a fleece on. Oh well.

While I'm here. More from a sunny Paddy's Hole. All A7cII and Sony 40mm f2.5.

Clear water but cold.

It might be cold but you have to paddle.

DSC03100.jpg

Soft warm sand. We got there early and there were very few people about, more soon began to arrive. This is more so still not crowded.

A panorama shot with A7III and Sony 24mm f2.8. When will we see conditions like this at Redcar again?

Was dull here this morning but it's glorious sunshine again now.

I'm a fan of multi-purpose lenses, and they seem to have come on leaps and bounds in recent years. I appreciate the limitations and flaws with them, but there are often work rounds.

I've a Tamron 50-400mm, which can focus pretty close. Insect photography isn't my big thing, but I like to record the creatures which I've encouraged to my garden as well as I can. I'm pretty pleased with this shot of mating Azure damselflies from yesterday.

This is the whole frame taken at 400mm, but shot in crop mode, on my A7V.

This is a screenshot of the processed pic at 100% in LR. By the way, insect recognition is great!

I've just found out today when in lightroom and using the crop tool you can press "o" to cycle through different grid lines and using shift + O changes the orientation of the grid lines, how did I never know this

Just in case anyone is interested I've advertised a TTA 50mm f2 and all of my remaining film era primes for sale.

Well, 4 film era primes have sold already. I'll be sad to see them go especially the Rokkors but they're not ornaments and I'm just not using them so they should go to someone who will.

Personally I never really saw cameras, lenses or any electronics as collectibles

May be watches but even then my watches aren't expensive, they are just ones I bought at various stages of my life like when I went to uni, got married, bought a house etc.

May be watches but even then my watches aren't expensive, they are just ones I bought at various stages of my life like when I went to uni, got married, bought a house etc.

The vast majority and maybe all of my film era lenses were bought when I was looking after my mam and getting out was sometimes difficult so researching lenses, finding nice ones at reasonable prices and testing and comparing them gave me a hobby when it was difficult to get out and when I could get out I took pictures I like with all of them.

Watches are another thing. I have something like 30 cheap Chinese ones and I'll be "building" two more and changing the hands on another but again there's a reason for most of the buys as I bought most when I was dealing with the nuclear level family meltdown and legal issues when my mam died so again it was sort of a way to lose myself in a hobby. The closest I came to spending any real money was when I had an Omega 1957 Trilogy set in my in basket for £18k. I don't normally spend that much on myself apart from for cars but I just thought that I liked them and TBH my bank balance is going up faster than I can spend it so why not? But I changed my mind and built a Railmaster homage for about £100 :D That was the only one of the trilogy I really wanted.

Just in case anyone else buys a A7RV1 it comes with a charger but No cable or mains plug ,needs to be at least 45w my low wattage cables do nothing .

My A1 II arrived a few days ago, excellent camera tbf.

It comes with an extended eyecup, so much better, have ordered another one for my A9III.

I thought the battery charger was faulty but apparently it only works if connected to a USB charger of 30w or over.

I have an A9 and an A7CII in the classifieds if anyone needs a new body.

I Googled and found a new RX1RIII for £3,171 then I saw one for £2,811. What? Even for grey imports can this be right?

E-infinity is £2999, the ones at £2800 are sites I’ve never heard of so would be cautious. Panamoz or £3350, I’m sure they’d reduce it but I doubt very much they’d match E-infinity.

They might they knocked £300 off the A1 II for me to match Cameriz

There’s more margin in the A1, and they don’t normally match e-infin as they over 3 years warranty vs 1 year, but you never know.

I Googled one of those never heard of sellers and they had good reviews, maybe they're just a smaller or newer grey seller.

I probably wont get one. I was amazed that there was interest in the lenses I advertised and clearing them out has left a space in a drawer that an RX1 would fit nicely into and it's compact and 35mm but there are issues, the lack of a tilting screen would annoy me. I think it's just the articulating screen of the A7cII that got me looking at other cameras as I don't like it and would much rather have a tilting or do it all screen. Also having a compact AF lens with an aperture wider than f2.x would be nice.

I just bought the A7v, took it to the Farne Islands last week. Got a nice sequence of a rock pipit over there with the 100-400GM on it.
30fps eats sd cards like they are chocolate!!

As we've discussed before, the lack of tilt screen is a deal breaker for me :(

Sorry to bother you all with another hobby of mine but at least the picture was taken with my A7cII and 40mm.

I've just changed the hands on this watch as the ones I initially fitted had a copper sheen in some light and at some angles and I couldn't get over it so I fitted these new ones today.

Me and my OCD are much happier now.

All my old film era primes have surprisingly sold either to Ffordes or on here and my TTA 50mm f2 also sold so the only manual focus lenses I still have are my Voigtlanders and a film era Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro which I forgot to advertise as it was in a box with my MFT stuff.

The end of an era. Oh well.

All I have to do now is sell the adapters and stop myself from buying any more old film era lenses.

It’s only a tenner cheaper than Jessops.

The R bodies always drop like a stone will be under 3k within a couple of months

View attachment 483978
That’s changed then, Jessops had a 5% off code but now it’s 10% it’s even better.

I’m still not interested in paying almost 4k for the body though, I can’t trust the Sony nuts who praise it as the best camera ever so need to get hands on myself before making the decision.

I can see why it’s flopping pretty hard it’s basically just an A7R5 with an extra 5mpx. People were expecting the stacked sensor to be a game changer but it has none of the advantages of a fully stacked sensor.

R Bodies always drop fast in price. It will be 3k grey within a couple of months and around 2.3k within 7-8 months.

yeah I was watching mark gelars and his view was performance wise its pretty much a a75 with double the MP.
slightly worse readout speed and lower a.f calculations but surprisingly a slightly bigger buffer.(seem mixed on the hi iso performance)
obviously it has more video improvements and then the actual hardware improvements.
I don't need double the MP and definatly not double the price:D

You can only ask, for the A1 II:

Panamoz was £4200
E-Infin was £4189
Cameriz with the added discount at checkout was £3907

Panamoz matched the £3907
A follow up to the above. I made some enquiries about costs etc.with Panamoz and Cameriz.

Panamoz would only reduce their price to £4100 yesterday. I have only ever bought a single item from them previously so would understand if frequent users perhaps get better offers. A three year warranty though is a big plus as well.

I looked at the Cameriz price which was £3907 still and noted that there is an option for “Package Protection” that was about £64. It doesn't actually show as an option for the A1 mk II but they said they would sort it out before anyone orders one. They then informed me that their PP only covers you for £3700 so if the package never arrives you are out of pocket. Not good.

You can order with a credit card though that covers you for loss, damage etc. and covers orders from Hong Kong etc. so why pay the PP in the first place? Am I missing something that PP offers that a credit card wouldn’t? They do provide a two year warranty which is not bad. I have asked the question of the PP offers but yet to receive a reply.

I have never ordered anything from Cameriz although a friend of mine has and had no issues other than a longer than expected delivery time.

I am more than a good customer of Panamoz tbf so maybe they looked after me a bit more.

According to dpreview and some reviews it seems if you use the A7Rvi with the smaller compressed RAW it has similar readout speed and AF calculations to A7v

It feels like the missed trick by not providing faster readout speeds in APS-C mode where you still have like 30mp!

I think it’s disappointing as an upgrade, but I guess if you’re new to the market it might be more appealing.

I’d be very surprised if Sony couldn’t make it with a faster readout time so I think it’s more of a business choice rather than a tech limitation.

depends on what someone was after.... from what i understand its a massive upgrade on video side (personally doesn't impact me)
compared to R5ii or Z8 its somewhat disappointing but you are getting like 2 stops more dynamic range, a good amount more pixels, nicer EVF, matched card slots etc.
so i am not sure it really directly competes with those either

unlikely I'll be upgrading from my A7RV tbh. I have been on look out for a second smaller body but now I am wondering if there'll be an A7CRii with this sensor.
i think the electronic shutter is good enough for most uses I'd use a small body for.
