The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I can see why it’s flopping pretty hard it’s basically just an A7R5 with an extra 5mpx. People were expecting the stacked sensor to be a game changer but it has none of the advantages of a fully stacked sensor.

R Bodies always drop fast in price. It will be 3k grey within a couple of months and around 2.3k within 7-8 months.
yeah I was watching mark gelars and his view was performance wise its pretty much a a75 with double the MP.
slightly worse readout speed and lower a.f calculations but surprisingly a slightly bigger buffer.(seem mixed on the hi iso performance)
obviously it has more video improvements and then the actual hardware improvements.
I don't need double the MP and definatly not double the price:D

You can only ask, for the A1 II:

Panamoz was £4200
E-Infin was £4189
Cameriz with the added discount at checkout was £3907

Panamoz matched the £3907
A follow up to the above. I made some enquiries about costs etc.with Panamoz and Cameriz.

Panamoz would only reduce their price to £4100 yesterday. I have only ever bought a single item from them previously so would understand if frequent users perhaps get better offers. A three year warranty though is a big plus as well.

I looked at the Cameriz price which was £3907 still and noted that there is an option for “Package Protection” that was about £64. It doesn't actually show as an option for the A1 mk II but they said they would sort it out before anyone orders one. They then informed me that their PP only covers you for £3700 so if the package never arrives you are out of pocket. Not good.

You can order with a credit card though that covers you for loss, damage etc. and covers orders from Hong Kong etc. so why pay the PP in the first place? Am I missing something that PP offers that a credit card wouldn’t? They do provide a two year warranty which is not bad. I have asked the question of the PP offers but yet to receive a reply.

I have never ordered anything from Cameriz although a friend of mine has and had no issues other than a longer than expected delivery time.

I am more than a good customer of Panamoz tbf so maybe they looked after me a bit more.

According to dpreview and some reviews it seems if you use the A7Rvi with the smaller compressed RAW it has similar readout speed and AF calculations to A7v

It feels like the missed trick by not providing faster readout speeds in APS-C mode where you still have like 30mp!

I think it’s disappointing as an upgrade, but I guess if you’re new to the market it might be more appealing.

I’d be very surprised if Sony couldn’t make it with a faster readout time so I think it’s more of a business choice rather than a tech limitation.

depends on what someone was after.... from what i understand its a massive upgrade on video side (personally doesn't impact me)
compared to R5ii or Z8 its somewhat disappointing but you are getting like 2 stops more dynamic range, a good amount more pixels, nicer EVF, matched card slots etc.
so i am not sure it really directly competes with those either

unlikely I'll be upgrading from my A7RV tbh. I have been on look out for a second smaller body but now I am wondering if there'll be an A7CRii with this sensor.
i think the electronic shutter is good enough for most uses I'd use a small body for.

Just tried the voucher code with Jessops on the A7Rvi and it says not eligible, not sure whether because it’s on back order now or it’s expired.

Another!

It's a Seiko NH38 in a 36mm case.

It's not perfect as there are some issues on the dial which thankfully are only visible under high magnification. Maybe £21.28 isn't enough for the Chinese to provide a perfect dial. There was an issue with the stem too but luckily I had a spare. I like it though, I think I'll wear this a lot.

Taken with my Sony A7cII and 40mm, as usual :D
