The "Canon Powershot G Series" owners thread

If you buy direct from the Canon Store you get the £40 discount at checkout and 2 years warranty.

Just ordered one from here, cheers for the tip. They do the official case for 16 quid when you buy the camera and no mucking about with cash-back !
Can't wait to get it !

I forgot all about this one. Just messing about with the G7X to see if I could remember how to do it.

Whilst the camera is off. Hold the Func/Set button down with your thumb. Tap the power :D

Also. Does the same whilst the camera is on. Hold the func/set button down for 2 seconds. Who needs a watch ;)

Took this yesterday for my Project [see link below]. On camera HDR Art Vivid, OTT colour but given a more washed out look in PP making in look well textured and battered.

was that a quest you did yesterday hence the Questerday?

So the G7x arrived and have to say its a lovely piece of kit! Must get to know it well when I have the time.
Only thing is I cant use my Peak Design wrist strap as the cord is too thick to go through the metal loop on the camera!
Need some sort of adapter if anyone has any ideas?

Hi Steve ... getting a G7X is a good start :D ...

erm ... metal loop? what about a keyring?

Yea crossed my mind to use a key ring but seems a bit of a bodge! The Canon strap seems ok though!

Steve I bought an M100 and i use the Optech wrist strap and i thought no way is this going to go through but i persevered and eventually got it through with the help of small thin nosed scissors :D

So which batteries are you all using?- want to get a spare but the originals seem so expensive

... and I bought one from here .... http://www.exprodirect.com/powershot-g7-x-mark-ii/ ... (tho mine's not a mark 2)

as mentioned on page 8 of this thread, a warning once came up asking if the battery was counterfeit, not sure what happens selecting yes/no but I didn't select either ... just switch the camera off then on again and it was fine.

Hi, first post.

I have a G9 x Mark II. Is it close enough to G7 x to talk about in this thread or should I make a new thread for it? Or is there a general Canon PowerShot thread somewhere? Didn't find any with search.

I got the impression that the G9x Mark II is very popular at this moment. I'd imagine it gaining some momentum. Seeing how these are pretty similar cameras, it would make a lot of sense to have them all in the same thread.

OK then. :)

I had regarded the G7X as something quite unique, but that's only because I'm unaware of the other powershot G cameras, but as they're all related, and if expanding the thread would result in it being more lively, then I'm all for it. I'll alter the title.

Welcome @Justapowershot

And on that note, a few form the G3X; masively underated model!

The G3X would suit me a treat, especially with the add on EVF. Unfortunately the price is too high for my pocket :(

Sorry posted in wrong thread, duh:muted: :muted:

Does anyone have the underwater housing for the G7X Mkii and can recommend it?
I'm debating getting one for my holiday; or should I just buy a gopro?

I have a 70D with a 70-200 2.8 that I use each week to shoot sports but rarely shoot anything else. It's great for the job but it's just too and bulky to cart around for general purposes. So, after a long deliberation, I finally decided to buy a bridge camera. I splashed out (a long way further than intended frankly) and bought the G3X (as long reach is important to me) with the EVF . Very impressed so far. I might even put it through it's paces with some sports this coming week.
Does anyone else have experience shooting sports with the camera?

You might struggle... in raw you definitely will! JPEG you might be okay...

I've been reviewing the manual to get a better understanding of the camera, and I note there is no "sport" mode. I use this a lot on my DSLR and it's frustrating me not having one. Is there a way to recreate this using one of the custom modes?

Just switch on continuous or servo AF and motor drive and auto iso?

I see from searching around that it's possible to enable BBF on the G3X but I can't seem to get it to work. I set the function of the 'S' button on the back to AF Lock and the AF to servo (not continuous). The camera doesn't focus when pushing the button though - it of course locks focus. Has anyone else got their camera setup for BBF?

I want to set it up similar to my 70D where I press the rear button to enable focusing and then when released it holds the focus until pushed again. Also whilst the button is pushed I want the focus to continuously focus in the (single) selected (centre) AF point. So I can then follow an object (a runner say) with the centre AF point and keep that object in focus whilst moving with the button pressed - detaching focus form the shutter button completely.

Hope that makes sense.
