I would be inclined to remove the 'blades' and add a lens cap - as long as I intended keeping the camera forever.

Mishap on hols in Lisbon ....
Walking in a park with the above case over shoulder, it falls apart, drops to the ground. No damage to the camera! but was disappointed the side came off ... just single ply wood, fake leather and glue.
I glued it back on but removed strap from case, spent the rest of my hols carrying the stapless case inside a little black plastic bag, like a dog walker carrying a giant jobby…
Been out with the G7X, doing both photos and videos. Pretty good at photos, and the video quality is really good.
Still not mastered good composition.
I don't normally use a camera with the grid lines activated, but will give it a go. It is just street photos look a mess, with people in the background. Or at least it does, when I take the photos.Put the grid lines on and it will help you with the rules of thirds.

I have tried just activating the grid lines, without other display info. It seems you can't have just the grid lines on their own. The LCD screen can get a little messy, with all the info displayed. I am blaming the camera, for my poor photography skills.Put the grid lines on and it will help you with the rules of thirds.

Only seems like there are three options.Activate grid lines. While looking at the back of your camera press DSP (down button on the wheel). You should get different displays . Choose the one with grid lines only

...............and HERE is a crop/edit I did recently for another site in a discussion about coats.
I really like that. Is it difficult to achieve?
AL
That is a good photo, and people are all on the same level. It is easy on the eye.Hi John .... I wouldn't worry about BG people, they can quite often add to the image. OK, it's nice to have the focal length to blur the BG.
The G7X has a sizeable sensor, meaning you can get away with a big crop in post, 'composing' your image at the same time.
Here's one I like, I'm standing with my back against the wall, camera at waist level, people start crossing the road, I take a few shots (could be done on 'continuous').

Hi Al ... do you mean the "selective colour"? .... simple when you know how.

Most of my photos are probably too wide, and some people are in the top of the frame. This results in some people, looking as though they are floating above others. Probably I need to get in closer.
sooc, looks good. What was the picture setting?
Yes. I've just found a way to do it on my D5300. But might take a bit of practice
Most of mine were at f/8 and 24mm, I think this resulted in getting too much in the frame. I need to get out again, and take a little more care what I am doing.Camera settings ... f/4, 1/500 sec, iso 250, jpeg
a clear day but no harsh light.
Focal Length: 13.9mm (38.6mm equiv.), so zoomed in just a little. They say that's better than the widest.
People crossing the road in a busy area! that's what you need.
The version above had the TEZENIS word selected and defocus because I thought it looked a bit stark.
I was wondering where your focus point was. Something I have difficulty with, in busy images.... and the beat goes on.
I have one - very pleased with it.How many G3x owners have we got here?
Nah ...Has this thread run it's course?

I can't see the point in touch shutter.I have not tried using the touch screen shutter yet, might make things worse with my wonky hands.
Been taking indoor photos of my dog, been using the flash in the tilt position. Even with bounce flash, I am still getting bright glinting eyes in the dog. I will try different things, such as adjusting flash power, and moving further back with a longer zoom length.
Nah ...
Here's a couple ... G7X .... shots from yesterday.
Pret - looking out (going to reshoot this)
McD - looking in

I have not bothered with the touch shutter since testing it, more of a fad I think...TBH I don't know, somewhere in there. I just aimed at a group crossing the road, then looked at the results later, chose the one in post #455, that was 18 months ago. It was just last week I realised I had the second pic (post #465) on my pc, shopped it and posted here.
I can't see the point in touch shutter.
I'd take the dog out to the garden, set camera on Continuous AF to get a shot of him/her jumping through hoops.
I mostly do my photos in raw, and convert in Canon DPP4. It is just so time consuming, and that can sometimes put me off taking photos. I would like to do a lot more SOOC photos, but photos straight out of camera are not always the best, or at least mine aren't. Is anyone tweaking their colours / settings, for Jpegs in the Canon G7X?
I mainly use either the Neutral or Fine Detail colour pre sets, auto WB and or the colour temperature. I am trying to get a sort of desaturated, pastel type colour. I won't say, try and replicate Fuji colours. I am sure people would come along and suggest swapping to Fuji.
PS
I can't recall if I have posted something similar before, apologies if I have.
Little difficult getting close with the G7X, a little hit and miss with focus. Been messing about outdoors with the camera, fingers are freezing and that is not helping.
