The GAS confessional - all who suffer are welcome. :)

@ancient_mariner my OH is the same.... chasing that elusive sound. Cheaper than guitars at least.

Very much. I have lots of sounds I like, and mostly play acoustic slide in a gospel blues band these days, but it's always fun to experiment with new pedals. Oh, and I'd like another Tele too, but have plenty of great guitars already.

I did build amps for a decade or so, but struggle to see what I'm doing with tiny switches these days. To get the right sound, one of the most important (and least noticed) factor is the speaker, and having the right one can change a flabby, muddy or grating tone into a thing of beauty and power.

Need to sell some speakers too. :(

I think that some people. One in particular really need some kind of help or intervention. All this forum seems to do is enable an addict to get their fix. Lenses and cameras are sold in some cases days after being bought and the same lens and camera is repeatedly bought over and over again. At several times over the year some people have multiple adds in every section. It's crazy. It's not my job to tell people what they can and can't do but I think we all know that some people's addiction is looking like it's spiraling out of control. If in one thread someone says I want this lens but I don't have the funds yet so can you hold it for me. But then in a different system forum they are them almost begging to buy a different lens. Seems to me these people have a serious problem.
Maybe we could put a limit on the number of ads you can have in a month? Just think of what you could do with your family instead of constantly buying and selling and repeating almost on a daily basis.
Of course this is just a personal observation of the classifieds and not a dig at any individual. I just think though this forum is enabling some very strong addictions.

Here's the hammer firmly striking the nail.

In the same way that you may choose to go out every Friday night and get hammered. I've never seen the point but millions do. Their choice and nothing to do with me.

I do understand. I used to play bass and though I have a few pedals most were never used live. I had a wonderful Eden cab but had to sell it as it was too heavy - the sound was great though with a Pearce amp. Still have my Markbass Jeff Berlin combo.

One band I was in, we had to wait ages between songs whilst the guitarist did a tap dance on all his pedals

I suspect that for some, the buying and selling is the hobby, and the taking of pictures is just a small part. Think how much more time we could have with our families if we didn't go out alone with a camera, process pictures afterwards or post them online to forums etc. ;)

I still play bass too, but *generally* that doesn't suit pedals much, possibly just a compressor/limiter and tuner (maybe a phaser if covering Thin Lizzie) and for many bass players having more than 1 pickup and multiple volume and tone knobs is too much. Not a discipline noted for pyrotechnics most of the time, with a few exceptions. Wish I had a nice little combo, but my rig is a 1X15 Carlsbro cab and Hartke 3500 head. Usually use a clip-on tuner for convenience. :)

I completely agree. I’d barely twiddle my knobs! I do use a pedal tuner, toyed with a compressor pedal, but did dial up on the distortion pedal for The Ace of Spades in one band ha ha!

Back to GAS... I agree some people might enjoy the buying and selling more than the photography. There might be all sorts of psychological reasons why we purchase things, and we can’t know people’s circumstances, so it would be completely wrong to interfere.

I had a 500ii and now have a 400 DO ii . Prices of long lenses have come down - and you have to trade in with most of the independents; MPB would have bought it but I didn't like the offer and I don't like to buy unseen - so I was very pleased to get a straight swap - so technically I don't have anything confess. Win win. And it fits in my Think Tank Speed Racer waist bag [not on camera]... it's bit small for my Thinktank Limo.

In my quest NOT to spend money on buying E-mount lenses for my A7ii/A6500, I have managed to spend far too much on lens adapters!

Five so far, and I haven't even got one for Canon EF-to-E yet ...

Only 5, barely even started then. I've got at least 8 direct & to 17 via stacked adapters (excluding macro only mounting).
Likewise nothing much for EF, only have those in dumb versions for intermediates (focal reducing etc) via MFT.

My personally stock of EF lenses is barely any larger then my e-mount lens 'collection', and both of them are worse quality. I'd give them away but they're not worth that much!

Hi, I am not sure this belongs here. But anyway ... --- :

Over the years, I somehow got the impression that my Leica M9 feels lonely, isolated and marginalized among my other cameras. ---

Now, with a companion, my dear old black M9 looks clearly happy, as you can see:

A post in the bargains area pointed at the Fuji refurb store's offer of an X-H1 at a price that would be rude to ignore. So I didn't! Just in time for the Bristol Classic Bike show today. 27mm pancake should be perfect (and is all I shall be taking so it has to be!!!)

Hi, FUJIs are great cameras! I have only one from an MF-GAS attack years ago :

The 10-24 would have been a better choice (hordes of people and not much room to step back far enough) and I wish I had had a paper manual to read up on some of the functions that the H has over the T and Pro I'm used to. Bloody touchscreen!!! Knocking the ISO up to H is all my fault though - should have locked the dial.

Oops again!

New camera carrier. Well, a fresh on to me. Same as the old one but a few years newer and the Sportbrake rather than the saloon. It's the S version as well, rather than the less powerful one.
Looking forward to carrying cameras and golf kit in it when it arrives.

Am here and have gas... Not literally... 3 lenses purchased this year (2 old ones sold plus one listed elsewhere). Really should use what I now have....

Been on the lookout for a cheap Canon EF 12 extension tube for a while - spotted one on LCE yesterday coupled to an EF 25 for cheaper than I'd seen any EF 12. Arrived just now, there's some signs that the EF 25 has seen life (but only if you look) the EF 12 looks unused.

Naturally it came in a foot cube box.

Hope they're not full of Chinese air! ;)

A set of 055MF3 legs has appeared. Dropping the carried weight of my tripod by a straight 850g (or 1100g if I dispense with the centre column) - only bought due to silly sale price but quietly delighted I did.

Would I have paid three figures to swap legs? Nope.

I'm expecting a relapse due in a few months. A Laowa 65mm f/2,8 macro looks very interesting. So to be proactive I need help from you guys
Anything that will inspire/motivate the gasattack for this lens will be appreciated

My way of deciding is Do I want it? (Erm… Of course I do!). Can I afford it? (Almost always - I have no real want for super expensive kit.) Where can I get it at a decent price? (That always depends. If it's something I think I need to handle before I buy it, I'll visit as local a shop as possible and buy it from them but if it's a simple "buy" rather than a "shop", I'm happy to get it from a web supplier.)

Added a D810 to the collection, the last body I'll ever buy I promise.

Until the next one - I (pretty much!) promise!!!
I swear....

No really. I'm slowly improving my lens collection and tend to keep bodies as I upgrade. Having kept the D300 and S5Pro the D500 is my main DX body and I can't see me ever needing anything else and having bought a well used D3 some years ago the D810 will now be my go to FX and again can't see me ever wanting to upgrade such a great body. I just need something wide for the FX and then I'm pretty much covered. Its then only the plonker behind the camera that needs improving.

Good luck!!! (D850s will be affordable soon...)

E-infinity £1680, already been crunching the numbers but I might be changing the car this year and the D810 I've jjust bought from the classifieds on here was a bargain and leaves me scope for a wide lens later on in the year.

On a side note i didn't realise till I looked a little closer that the D810 uses the same batteries as the D500 so 2 bodies 2 chargers and 4 batteries

Hooray! It is time for a confession: having sold my X100T last month - it became redundant after I added my Oly system to the pack - I bought a [price matched] LX100ii from Clifton on Friday. Very pleased. It will come on holiday when we next go.

Just the shop for those with GAS!

The shop name is right, but the contents visible in the window fail to meet either of these. The local charity shops manage better (at last the specialist ones in Frinton - one with a camera gear section, the other a bookshop)

I've been thinking about either an X100F, LX100ii or a GR3, so it'll be interesting to see how you get on with your LX100ii...
