There's a place in Scotland called Dull which is twinned with an American town called Boring.Some years ago, I was reported on a forum for saying that Heaven and Hell could be found in the USA (the report was from an American, believing I was both blaspheming and disrespecting "his" country.) I replied with the coordinates for one example of each place name.

We have a place in Cheshire called Peover (pronounced to rhyme with beaver) that has caused one or two regional TV and radio broadcasters some embarrassment with their pronunciation over the years!
