The bloke on the opposite shift to me, leaving the barest of information as to what he has done today.
I left the engine in test overnight and it ran fine all night. He stopped the test. Checked the oil level, we have two pieces of equipment that measure emissions. We have to change their filters, one piece of equipment needs calibrating and checked for leaks, that all takes 10-15 minutes maximum, for some reason it always takes him exactly half an hour according to the log. Then he resumed the test. That ran for another 4.5hrs when he then started on the next test, which he logged at 12:08.
I start at 3:00pm but get in about 20 minutes early. According to the timer on the test, it has only been running for 34 minutes and I can see from a graphic on the screen that two points have been omitted from the test. No explanation why in the log, no note left for me, nothing written on the work sheet, checked my emails, no extra instruction from the engineer we are working with. Nothing. The data recorded from the tests is broken up in engine speeds each time the engine speed is increased then the number in the data file name is also increased, yet the file number was exactly the same as the one he started the test on and it was still on it's first engine speed, it doesn't take 3hrs to run the test on each engine speed, so I am at a loss as to what he did today, why two points have been omitted from the test and why it had only been running for 34 minutes. So I have had to start the test all over again, because none of it makes any sense.
I bet the engineer we are working with is getting really frustrated. He was expecting these tests to have been completed a week ago and we should have been running other work by now.
