Heat.

It's been quite a nice, calm day here. Clouded over just before dusk but I wouldn't call it stormy. I'm hoping it misses us. We're not under any warnings here, so fingers crossed.

I sat down with a cuppa just about an hour ago and was watching the live stream of aircraft landing at Heathrow. There were some very hairy landings, a 747 freighter in particular but there were also 12 or so go arounds. I'm glad I wasn't on one of those landings tonight.

Here, it's currently dry, calm (ish) and warm compared to recently, though hardly 'taps aff' weather. 8°C.

It was grey first thing, but the sun started breaking through around 9ish and it's now pleasant if a little cool. We've had a massive amount of rain, and I've just been over the road to dig out one of the drains so that the water flowing down the hill gets carried away instead of covering the road surface on the bend. It's been a constant battle to keep drains clear this winter, and one of the pipes is now blocked with stones and silt, so that water flows out of a drain instead of into it.

I should say the worst was that the village has small streams all over, and the brook across the road from us that collects the water before piping it under the road had filled with silt, blocking the pipe. The village is also known for the calcifying effect of the water, and everything gets covered eventually in layers of a hard tan-coloured deposit. So the road surface further downhill from us had a couple of hundred litres per minute of water running over it for several weeks, leaving deposits all over. The surface has also been broken in places, and the constant film of water has penetrated, softening the road further and allowing more damage. The blockage has been fixed now, but it's only temporary.

For me..a weather fan..yesterday was disappointing. No lightning/thunder..why do we say "thunder and lightning" when, in reality, it's the other way round. It was forecast but didn't materialise. I saw footage of snow (BBC news) on Exmoor. I thought, Mr Nod lucky sod..:D A few heavy downpours and that was it. For someone so keen of inclement weather I live in the wrong place. So much either passes south of us or to the west. Storms coming out of North Devon/Somerset cross the Bristol Channel to S.Wales.

Just sunny spells and downpours this morning..so far.

8°-C here at the moment but feels quite cold, very windy but still dry as yet with a partly cloudy sky. Apparently rain showers are forecast from any time now.

Lucky? While it's pretty for a minute or 2, it's usually a PITA!!! We did get a couple of claps of thunder in the afternoon, much to the distress of the Openreach technician who was working on Mrs Nod's work's phone/internet socket...

Today has been sunny, rainy, overcast and hailing - typical Spring weather!

8°-C here at the moment, very overcast but dry with very light wind.

Bright here, but I think it will change soon.

*Edit*
Well, happy to be proved wrong, it's been a lovely day, up to about 15 degrees and sunny. Best so far.

I'll take a break from this thread until next week some time because Cobra was a big part of it contributing daily, as do we all, and it's so sad not to have him here. I did notice no posts from him for a while but assumed he was on holiday.

I've not been able to for a few days but I'm sure Chris would want us to carry on. In his words "it makes a change from the doom and gloom,"

So, let's go........................

Today it isn't actually raining, the first day since the weekend. It is to rain later though but lighter than it's been. It's currently quite bright, with some chunky clouds about but nice spells of now warm sunshine in between, it is carrying some warmth now too. Currently 7°.

Our garden is sodden though, there is, or at least was last night, water sitting on the lawn. The grass needs cutting and I have a fence to rebuild.

Maybe next week. :angelic:

It was 9°-C here this morning at about 08-00, quite a bright day with varying amounts of cloud but very windy all day with only a couple of light rain showers.

My bold. You know what,Dale..? I thought the very same thing this afternoon .There's a named storm ..Kathleen...off out to our west in the coming days and whilst it isn't hitting us directly we will feel the strength of its winds and I wanted to post about it and that's when I thought the same as you.. ie.."Chris would want us to carry on"

I managed as back lawn mow today. It's a case of "do it while I can" :D

It's been a pleasant day. I managed to strip some more of the fence, as I need to clear it away before I can build the new one. It was pleasantly warm in the sunshine, I even took my top layer off as I worked up a sweat. Not quite T-shirt weather but definately down to just a sweatshirt today.

It's currently dry, calm and 5°C but that's about to change, in the coming hours.

Out for a walk with some friends for lunch. No doubt the overcast will cast down on us!!!

It's been raining steadily for most of the morning and is just beginning to clear up now. Currently 10°-C with a strong wind.

As predicted, the rain came in about 1am this morning. It was quite cold, the hills had a covering of light snow earlier. We're away from that down in the valley though, it turns to rain by the time it gets to us, usually. It rained all night and still is on and off.

Very meh at the moment, with worse to come. Currently 4°C.

Here's a wind/rain/wave height chart for Ayr. Annoyingly, it's in m/s not mph but x 2.2 will get mph. Looking at tomorrow, 4.00pm will see the worst of the wind.. Steady at 33mph with gusts of 53mph and no doubt that's underestimated. Wave height in metres so x by 3.2... 4.00pm 2.5m ie 8'.

Scroll down to see the wind map. It shows place names.Quite interesting. I don't know what size it will open up for you but take it down to minimum on the scale curser top right then slowly increase it and more location names show. You can even hear the wind.....lol There's a 'speaker' icon right side and a 'full screen' option.

I was wrong! The rain didn't start until we were in the car on the way home and it kindly stopped at the bottom of the hill, 2 minutes before we got home!

11°-C here at the moment with a light breeze and overcast. Apparently it's going to brighten up quite a bit later.

It's pretty calm here at the moment, dry, for now but the skies look nasty in the distance. They are fast moving too.

Currently 14°C, I think that's the warmest it's been here this year.

Did I say 'calm'?

The river walk was interesting, shall we say. It stayed dry throughout but boy, that wind, hitting the tops of 40-50 foot Willows, it was roaring. At one point, I thought it was thunder. It was gnarly underfeet too, the recent rains have made it sticky but slippery and it really slowed me down. A 40 minute walk turned into well over an hour, one way.

I was a good 2 miles from the car when it really started kicking off, I will admit to being slightly rattled and that doesn't happen easily. I worked up a sweat too, the car was saying 14°C when I got back to it.

It's calmer now but still gusty. Currently 11°C.

Well it failed miserably to brighten up here, no rain but it got very windy and one gust in particular caused my Apple watch to warn me of over 90 decibels of noise caused by the noise of the wind blowing over it.

Very strong winds today. I thought if it's like this here what must it be like in Ireland/NI and western Scotland. Pretty bad according to Dale.

However, the sun came through quite a lot ..no rain..so I was able to sit in the summer house. There was a loud crack as a peg from one of the clothes drying on the whirligig/rotary dryer came off, flew 10m to hit a window pane. It's 10.15pm and the wind is still roaring through the trees opposite. The forecasters say the winds will persist into tomorrow.

Bit breezy yesterday evening so I had to prune a bit off a Camelia to stop it hitting the conservatory. 12°C and wet today - wind's died right down.

The wind did ease off a little last night, it was pretty quiet in comparison to what it had been. It picked up again overnight though and we currently have gusts of around 50 mph+. Wind is one of the weathers I'm not so keen on, it can be dangerous and also, cause damage.

It's bright and sunny at the moment though and 12°C.

It looked nice first thing so we got ready and went for a walk. 12 degrees but felt like 7, raining and blowing a gale. We turned round after 10min when faced with a flooded area and then a bleak walk over a field.

It has been and interesting few days here in NW Scotland.

On Friday it was a little breezy and didn't get above 6C so felt very chilly, but by 9am on Saturday it was calm and 14C. Kathleen started to arrive Saturday afternoon and it was very noisy overnight.

We lost power about 12:30am Sunday twice each time for about ten minutes. Yesterday was very windy with big trees in motion and although it isn't quite as strong now we still have a decent gale.

This is from yesterday afternoon -

Dave

Well yesterday turned out to be a very nice day apart from the very strong winds all day. Today at the moment it's 11°-C with much less wind than yesterday and reasonably bright with the occasional burst of sunshine.

What on earth possesed this man to go onto the breakwater ?

Probably the same as these folk I spotted during storm Dennis at Saltcoats, Feb 2020.

Today has gotten off to a bright start, still quite warm at 10°C and much calmer than it has been.

Yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day I even managed to catch me a few rays in the garden. Today not so good 10°-C at the moment very windy with rain forecast.
