My Braun Super Paxette project

I'd love to. I'll give you a shout when I get back to England. I'll need to check to see if I've got 35mm negative carriers and a useable 50mm lens.

fantastic thread, and what a lovely camera and collection you have :)

Thanks Andy. Every time I use it I just have to smile, it's such a cute little thing and it seems to work beautifully. Amazing, given its age and the amount of use it's had all over the world, mainly in the desert in Abadan!

Actually, they cost bugger all. Look on ebay and you can pick up a decent one for about £30. It needn't get very expensive because the lenses etc are also very cheap. As the camera was given to me, it has sentimental value I cannot put a price upon, but I would say all the accessories I have for it total less than £200. As a whole kit, though, and in such good condition, I would say my set is worth quite a bit more as a package. But I won't ever sell any of it, of course.

Oh and as another quick update I bought some more aluminium rear lens caps for the 135mm lens and the 38mm (which needed a slightly deeper cap due to it's length behind the thread)

Also will have more updates soon, watch this space!!

It is dangerous to let me know that

Sorry - but you know it makes sense to purchase all the bits no and make it a priority in your life from this moment forth :)

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

Another small update (another to follow in a few days time)

I FINALLY got a silver hood for the 38mm lens, and got the deeper rear cap from the states. The hood will get a decent polish as it's slightly marked through use:

Here are all my lenses in their glory:

Just love all that engineering, modern black AF stuff just doesn't feel the same.

Ditto. Although I still use a DSLR for paid jobs and for this and that, I use this and an Epson R-D1 rangefinder for pleasure. Something about the R-D1 evokes the sense of really slowing down and taking the time to 'see' and the ability to fold in the screen means I might as well be using film!

I still find it amazing that such an old piece of gear can be working so well with no maintenance at all for over 50 years.

Cheers

Now those lenses are works of art as well as superb engineering and the case with everything in is wonderful. Excuse me I need to find a cloth to wipe up the drool from the keyboard.

Wonderful thread and a great read.

What a wonderful bit of collection you got going; very impressed with your effort to build-up this kit to what it's become, and the way you're taking care / use of it (y)

Is there such a thing as "Camera pornography", because those lenses are just so great. You can see the quality of engineering, and the results show that beauty is not just skin deep.
Great post.

Thanks,

Andy

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I have just chucked the camera into a bag with my R-D1 to take to a wedding tomorrow. Trying out the Kodak B+W film (CN400 or something?) but also have some XP2 with me which I know I love to bits.

Still using this thing every day and it seems to like being taken out!

Cheers

I am wondering if there is anything else, besides maybe classic car (Mille Miglia and the like), classic aircraft (Reno air races), both of which involve millions of pounds investment, where you can enjoy the functionality of something, combined with its beauty.
I know that golfers could take classic clubs - forged blades and persimmon woods out on the course, but the majority would be frustrated by their playability when compared to modern clubs.
With these cameras, it is just possible that the engineering and optics are to a much higher standard than today's models, and that in competent hands the results would be pretty much even.

vintage watches.....

A steel omega from the 60s is a thing of beauty

My oldest watch is from the 40s; and its beautiful too. Its a Certina though, not an Omega

And vintage pens too (y); albeit some can cost more than a D3x !

That is a thing of beauty, very nice collection there (y)

Thanks folks. I'll have some pictures to show you soon, give me a week or so.

I also love watches, recently got a Longines Legend Diver, so a re-issue of a vintage - my pockets aren't deep enough and I actually prefer the new one!!

In fact I have way too many of them - time to get rid of some...:D

ha ha ha ...Richard, was just kidding about selling them. I am still on a collection spree. Only have 200 of them to boast about. :D

Big head:), I have fifteen, I will keep on.(y)

What an amazing thread. I'm on my first roll of film for nearly a decade and i'm loving it!! I was quite tempted to get another Pentax ME Super for colour film, but after reading this, a braun paxette may be on the cards.

Please keep updating this thread, its one of the best yet, and the photos are amazing also!

Cheers

Hi Ped, your negatives arrived safe and sound, I'll make a start on the printing tomorrow or Thursday probably.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I am taking the camera to Yorkshire on holiday tomorrow and will finish the roll of Kodak CN400 which I am half way through. I have a final roll of XP400 to take with me, the other roll has just beel loaded into my good old Olympus OM10.

I will post any interesting results ASAP for you to see, and Kev, many thanks for offering to print a picture for me. Perhaps we could come to some business arrangement ;0)

Cheers and keep watching this space (might have another 'accessory' on its way soon)

Woo Hoo!!! I just won an ebay auction for one of these complete with 35, 45, 85 and 135mm lenses. Let's hope it's a good'un. Even the missus liked how it looked in the pictures in this thread, and didn't complain (much) when she found out I was bidding on one.

Having never used a ragefinder before, I now need to learn to use it, and work out which accessories I want/need. I'm guessing an universal viewfinder and exposure meter would be a good idea, but which ones?

Cheers

Aled
