Over 70's to be asked to self-isolate - how will you pursue your hobby?

Totally agree with mike above . I’m only happy when no one understands WTF I’m doing

Oh Shiite self isolating ,just got my new reading glasses thought it was self abusing

I may only be a"young" 52 years old whippersnapper, but typing as a indoors only introvert looking after an elderly mother, this is where my famed west-facing hobby room get to shine.

I see what you did there

On a serious note though ill take Maclaren (Pushchairs) and Pampers - longer term investment - planning for the future

I'm wondering at what point some people at high risk are going to realise exactly what high risk means, and modify their behaviour accordingly?

I guess watching the latest Sky News showing the temporary morgue marquee being setup in London could focus the mind ... or maybe watching the steady growth in the death rate in Italy might help?

it might, my problem is even though I happy to take it seriously, and being in a high risk group, I'd willing to not venture out unless its essential, but alas work thinks I should be going into work! Even though it appears one of our colleague is in self isolation due to showing symptoms!

So, you're in a high risk group working with vulnerable people!

I`m at high risk, but tomorrow I have to go out. As I still have to take my dog Susie out for a walk, I will be walking to the vets tomorrow and walk back as I usually catch a bus but not a chance I will get on one.

I was wondering about renting an isolated self catering place, somewhere photogenic obviously
Taking my own food and other essentials to lay low for a couple of weeks.
No parents or in laws to worry about, all long gone.
I'm in the vulnerable group anyway so not like I will be out helping others

It's strange you saying that and you might even find that difficult to do.

I have one of the cottages at "Dungeness" that I let out for vacations with the exception of when I want to use it for myself. The demand for vacant dates (which there are none) for the next eighteen or so months has gone absolutely crazy over the past two weeks. Some folk offering up to four times per night on my asking price (which I won't accept) just to trump other people.

George.

Another 475 today, I mean WTF is going on in Italy? They'll soon be overtaking China for deaths.

We still walk the dog, twice a day. First, this morning as soon as it was light enough so around 6am, then again this afternoon. Theres very few people about at 6am and those that are at a distance. For the afternoon walk I usually drive somewhere remote, in the wolds, I rarely see anyone and if I do, its easy to keep your distance.

Nice and quiet at 6am when we walk round the block as the park still get a lot of folk in so we stay away, then another walk about in the evening before we crash out. We don`t really see many folk when we are out, but if someone is on the same side as me I have a cough then they cross the road.

Good point George, never considered it would be that hard to find.
Just thought that some people would be happy to get some cash coming in
Back to Plan B, hang on though I haven't got one yet

I was in town earlier, no choice, provisions were required ... and apart from it being a little quieter than usual , it seemed like any other weekday. Apart from the odd person wearing a mask or those stupid rubber gloves - the gloves aren't stupid, sorry, the people wearing them are! Rubber gloves are designed to be worn and disposed of after single use, not the same pair worn for the day! If someone is serving you in a store with the same pair of gloves they used for the last customer, you have the right to request they change them [just as you always have at say, a deli counter] - or just ask they remove them and wash their bloody hands. Also a scarf over your face is doing naff all to prevent a virus

They could be just very unattractive people who're being very civic minded and covering up so they don't put us good looking ones off our dinners.

That's quite a man cave.

Well done that man :D

I don't like to judge, but in some cases that seems plausible

The Prime Minister advised people NOT to travel - I've just cancelled my 2 weeks on Mull based on that information :(

I’m well aware of that, but at this moment in time I can only report on my own situation. Things may change and probably will, and if people cancel then I shall of course honour that and offer a full refund of any monies paid.

George.

I guess many people feel that if they have to be isolated that they might as well do it in a place they think will help keep them sane!

For the best, Les. We have our usual Wester Ross break booked for May. On the local area's FB someone was asking about the advisability of going there and was reminded it's a remote area. The locals are heavily invested in tourism and will suffer but would rather no-one took the virus there. Limited medical facilities, no supermarket, nearest hosital 70 miles away. Something to think about.

Agreed Jan, Having just spoken to my Holiday rental company on Mull, NO REFUNDS however: I can transfer to a later date- same cottage for 2 weeks, I'm looking at October now, hopefully things may have stabilised somewhat by then :)
