Over 70's to be asked to self-isolate - how will you pursue your hobby?

Daughter works in Tesco's and the amount of times, she has been told to "f**k off", because she highlighted a purchase limit or tried to explain why some items were not on shelves, is shocking.

This on-going crisis, will continue to highlight the worst in people, but thankfully, it will also continue to highlight the best also.

There's a simple answer to that, bring security in and the offender is escorted from the premises (using as much force as is required) without any of their shopping! They'll soon lean how to behave when they get hungry!

Or introduce the opposite of a BOGOF where the price of each is multiplied by a factor of 5 or 10 if you exceed the limit. “Of course you can have 10 packs of toilet rolls, but just so you know they will cost you £50 a pack instead of £5 because you’re over the multi buy limit. You can of course buy only one at the normal price of £5”. Pretty simple, no arguing with them as it hits them where it really hurts and stop all this flipping on eBay etc at a higher price. Any extra profit made (if people are that stupid......don’t answer that question) could go to food bank charities.

You make jokes about mental health and think you deserve better response? Your posts says way more about you than my sensible one does about me I tells ya

No, my question " Has self-isolation affected your mental health already ? " wasn't a joke Cagey. I feared you were 'losing it' Based on your post I was attempting to make you question your approach.

Scotland!

Not sure. Mrs Nod lived in Aberdeen for a while so I know what it means but not why.

I learnt that when reading Rebus books but still don't know the origin.

When I was young, boys on bikes (or not always on bikes, and sometimes girls) would deliver "messages".

They would "run" or "take a message", verbal or written between neighbours (nothing to do with groceries or shopping, it was just the way things were done before the days of phones.

Sometimes, they would take a "message" down to the local shop, and hand the message (which contained a shopping list) over to a shop owner to put the order together. The shopping would then be later collected by the child who had delivered the "message" or home delivered by the shops "messenger boy".

The practice changed but the term "messages" and "message bag" for shopping and shopping bag stayed.

But, I suspect the nearer equivalent, in terms of origins, is probably closer to "running an errand".

Thanks for that, Graham. Mrs Nod didn't know why "running the messages" was used for doing the shopping but your explanation makes sense!

Having had all my bookings for the best part of six months cancelled (inc. three weddings), I've resurrected my oil painting kit from the electric meter cupboard where they've been since we moved here nine years ago
Took a few minutes warming up the tubes in a Pyrex dish full of boiling water to get some of the tops off and loosen the paint.
Now looking forward to renewing an old hobby I was never very good at but always enjoyed (just like my photography in both aspects).
Despite the Supreme Commander having issued a list of jobs that 'need doing' which is as long as my arm I'm looking forward to my first exhibition !
(If any of you have a spare £100 and want to learn how to perform the Three Card Monte and make yourself a fortune my number is 07... ....)

Just been talking on the phone to my local camera shop owner about a deal, he said i should go in no later than Saturday as the chatter between the shop owners is they could be told to close from Saturday 5.30 pm,it will not be a come on from him i have dealt with the shop since his father ran it 50 years ago.

No idea if it will happen but we are at Cleethorpes

One of my colleagues has a delivery to collect from a river island store and has been told to collect it tomorrow as all their stores are closing until further notice.

It's strange you saying that and you might even find that difficult to do.

I have one of the cottages at "Dungeness" that I let out for vacations with the exception of when I want to use it for myself. The demand for vacant dates (which there are none) for the next eighteen or so months has gone absolutely crazy over the past two weeks. Some folk offering up to four times per night on my asking price (which I won't accept) just to trump other people.

George.

Which cottage is yours? Stayed at Living Architectures Shingle Cottage just before Christmas and got (for me anyway) some amazing photographs due to a combination of the weather and location.

I may well have taken a photo of your cottage as one morning was spent photographing most of them. Assume it’s not Prospect Cottage!!!

Would quite happily be holed up there for the next month or so.

Been done in Denmark apparently with hand sanitizer, first bottle something like €3 the next bottle €135 brilliant idea if you ask me.

They should of started doing that ages ago.

No it’s not “Prospect Cottage” but not very far from there.

“I’ll not reveal which cottage is mine as I’m sure you appreciate that to reveal personal details such as that over the internet could mean committing privacy suicide, but it’s quite possible that its one of the cottages you have photographed as many people do”

Yes, they'll be hammering on the door after your toilet rolls before you can say Jack Robinson! ;)

Now, now don‘t be so shy, I’m sure it’s perfectly safe to reveal ones true identity on an internet forum :D

I can tell you from personal experience that it isn't safe.

I once posted something that made it possible to trace my address, it took a few hours work on Google maps and the like but it was possible and the very next day there was a mob of about 100 gorgeous bikini clad women outside my door.

I certainly learned my lesson that day and from now on I'm careful not to post anything private on line.

Just had my daughter in law on the phone, she runs a starbucks near an army barracks, she had some soldiers in complaining they should be on leave. She ask why they are not and they said next week they are going on lockdown duty in the streets and will be taking people home and issuing fines for breaking whatever rules come in.

Chester zoo shut now until further notice
Shame really as could visit the outdoor areas and keep a safe distance but I understand they had no choice
