Notice Some big changes coming to TP

Something happening?
Marcel was having a tweak, more over a bit of a clear out.
and tidy up.
Hopefully that's it for now,

But for futures TP stutters the FB page will or at least should be upto date for any further disruptions

No good for those of us who don't use farceberk...

More people (here) know the berk (interesting derivation...) me than the face me!

From page one
Immediately : The TP app will be withdrawn from the App Store(s) this week, and will cease to function by 30/04.
It was a lot of money for very light use

Yeah sorry about having to kill the app. I know it's a painful bandaid to pull off.
I should have done it a long time ago tbh. I'm sure anyone who misses it will understand why it has to go.
Besides, with my feelings towards how Tapatalk operate (suddenly changing our app that we pay for, to push ads, then refusing to disable them) makes me very uncomfortable about their plugin having access to our database

Although no longer a serial poster i do pop on every so often so sad to here the news recently .All good things must to come to a end and i must say the forum as been a big positive in my photography over the years i have been a member .I have met many like mined people on here with quite a few i now consider as good friends...
Big thanks to the owners and mods who have especially had to deal with many issues i have been involved him over my time on here..

Update, TP is staying.

@den You must have missed the post that informed everyone that the forum will be continuing with new owners, with a hopefully seamless transition

**UPDATE**

I'd like to announce that discussions have been successful and TP will be continuing as is, with someone new at the helm.
More details soon, but I want to reassure you all that TP is not going anywhere and will stay as it is...infact you might not even notice the switch :p

This is the new update in BLUE

We managed without the app in the past and can manage without it in the future. People tend to go for the easy, automated options, but in doing so can't avoid giving a level of control, access and power to Companies that cannot be trusted. Facebook, Amazon, Royal Mail and Deliveroo may be other examples of what can happen when people are too trusting.

I was looking through the thread to see if anyone else was having a problem with the app
:rolleyes::D

Great news regarding the forum staying put(y)

I hope you will staying around Marcel.
what you need now is to chill out and relax. Maybe to some music music that can produce amazing sound.
Just an idea but maybe you should check out any hi-fi’s for sale on TP :naughty:

Hope all goes well for yourself, the site, admin and members going forward :)

And the site works perfectly well on a mobile anyway, so there's no actual need for an app

Realistically the only reason I used the app was it was a quick way to get to the forum from my phones desktop. I've no doubt I can just create a shortcut to the page from chrome :)

Great news that TP is staying and is running smoothly, Thanks to Marcel, the mods and the members who contribute to the forum.
I don’t post a lot but I read a hell of a lot.

When I read the first post it was very sad that the forum might close down.

I joined this forum 14 years ago, and learned so much, and built up some great photography kit, mostly purchased from the fantastic people on these forums.

I'd stepped away for photography for a good few years due to life, family etc, and sadly my partner lost her battle with cancer 11 months ago aged 35, and my step daughter went to live with her grandmother, so I find myself on my own again, with nothing but time.

Sold all my photography kit last year which I deeply regret, so trying to reconnect with these forums, and see if I can reignite the passion for photography I once had.

Was good to read the forum is staying open and thanks again to owner, mods etc for all their great work.

Sorry for your loss Scott.

Well you know where the classified sections are I'm sure it won't be long before you are up and running again :)

So sorry to hear of your loss. I think photography can be different things to different people, but it is definitely something that can get you out and about and away from everyday issues. Hoping it can help you find some solace.

Our new alien overlords are installing the mind probe software.
Have they done it yet? If so, can you ask them what film I put in my Yashica TLR the other month, please, as I can't bloody remember?

Anyway, glad to see TP is staying, I was really depressed when I read the announcement the other week. Thanks to Marcel for all his hard work over the years too, this forum is a credit to him and the backroom staff who help keep it all going.

Sorry to hear that, Scott. Photography can be good therapy, though, so great you're getting back into it. (y)

Sorry to hear of your loss and current isolation, it's easy to say "keep positive" but looking to reconnect with things you enjoy may help ... wish you 'all the best'.

Glad to hear that the Forum will be continuing albeit with a New Captain at the Helm. Thank you once again Marcel for all the time and effort you have given to this Forum since it’s inception, thanks also to all the Staff Members and Moderators that help keep the peace. Looking forward to continuing my Photography journey with you all.

Great news that TP is here to stay, I used the app mainly, however I’d rather lose the app than this fantastic forum, a big thanks for all that make it happen past and present

Wow, I’ve not been on for a while for one reason or another, and only today tried to log in to the app after upgrading my phone, now I know why I was unsuccessful.

So, just want to say thank you to Marcel for all the hard work and dedication you have put in over the years and thank you to the admin, moderators etc and to who ever is taking over. I look forward to using TP more than I have been and has been a wealth of advice and confidence booster in the past.

I'm very late to the party, but @Marcel I know you've worked on running this website for a considerable amount of time and put alot of time and effort into it. I just wanted to say thanks for everything!!

Overjoyed to hear it'll continue - Social media has (rather antisocially) destroyed 1000's of communities by sucking away their members and then destroying the communities though lack of decent tools, glad to know that TP continues to survive.

:giggle: Thanks for all your efforts and for providing a great space for photographers. I hope you enjoy your well earned rest & will be sitting in the side lines. Jackie

Are the 'Big Changes' now being downgraded to 'Possibly a few minor tweaks that you'll barely notice' - I haven't spotted the adverts for Viagra yet.... or the shocking neon pink/yellow skins taking over from 'neutral'. When's the party starting? I've got a packet of jaffa cakes ready to roll.... :jaffa:

Surely they are as per the original post!

What does this mean for the forum?
Well. I have a timeline in mind with certain actions I don't need to bore you all with, but the key details are :

Immediately : The TP app will be withdrawn from the App Store(s) this week, and will cease to function by 30/04.
Immediately : No new advertising requests, current advertisers may continue.
Immediately : Remove Facebook / Social Media Integration with the forums
By 30/04 : Old content will be deleted. (The criteria is yet unknown, but it will be the really old and useless stuff filling up the forums)
By 30/04 : Old member records to be deleted. (Again, unsure on exact criteria)
By 30/04 : All remaining members to be contacted via email and informed of what's going to happen.

The longer term timeline will depend on a discussion I'm having with the moderation team in private. Then, one of two things will happen :

First Option
The forums will be handed over to the new owner.

If this is successful, the forums will certainly be going back to its roots as a hobbyist community, as we used to be. I will stay as just a member, or mod/admin with a purely informal technical advisory role.

Second Option
I announce that the discussions fell short and I will set a close date for the forums

The forums will close and all data deleted.
Please note I will give at least 3 months notice for this option.

If you have any queries please add them in here, and I'll answer as best I can. Common questions will get added to this post as an edit.
If you are worried about your personal data, I can assure you it is safe and will not be sold. This has been my underwritten promise since day one.

As a further note, I will make a proper post at a later date but I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every single member, past and present, of Talk Photography. Banned or not.
You are what has made this community what it is. You are the heart of Talk Photography.
You have all shown TP some absolutely fantastic support over the years, and even myself personally.
I have made loads of friends on here and experienced many, many happy memories. The love, support, and encouragement you all showed me during my personal '365' all those years ago was overwhelming and I'll never forget it.
I'd best stop now or I'm gonna cry!!
