The Formula 1 / IndyCar Thread

Brilliant end to the race though. I'd like to see a "no pitting under safety car" rule brought in, it does give a major advantage to those that can take it.

Is that the last race for a while ? I hope so. :)

The heads-up for these Formula1 races on Five Live with screaming car engines compounded by a screaming commentator do my head in. I have to make a hurried dash to the radio to turn it off as I've found that's marginally quicker than turning down the volume to zero :D . Sometimes there isn't any warning the producers just go straight in. The football heads-up can be irritating too bu at least that's just the maniacal voice of the commentator. Jonathon Pearce is (was) the worst..I think. Since joining the BBC he's toned it down a bit.

I felt sorry for George. He told the Marshall to leave the car alone. When he got back they had put it on a flatbed and he couldn't restart because he'd had outside assistance.
He thought he could restart and limp back to pits on 3 wheels.

It was a shocker of a crash.

Thank God for catch fencing, survival cells, the halo and safer fuel tanks. If fuel had spilled, that would be a different story, he was trapped for quite a few, long minutes.

Slightly mercenary but whats that crash cost the team, £15m ?

Nah - they'll be able to rescue the wheel nuts. Possibly!

More seriously, a testament to today's safety features, from the survival cell through the halo to the crash fencing and the marshals.

And is apparently out of the country. If I was him, I'd stay put somewhere that has no extradition agreement with the UK and enjoy the last few years.

Is no one else bothered by the orange smoke. It cannot be good for their health and anyone with Asthma could be in real trouble. It is so selfish and spoilt some of the camera shots of the race and award ceremony. Some of these same Dutch "fans" are also spoiling the cycle racing. Max should discourage this not encourage.

Ricciardo won’t be driving for McLaren next year
If Riccardio gets the compensation that he is reputed to have asked for ($21 million ) does that sum of money come out of McLaren's cost capped budget for next year?

I believe the salary for the 5 highest earners for each team does not get included but if Mclaren are effectively paying for 3 drivers next year that would push the 5th highest earner this year into the 2023 budget.

The Temple of speed this weekend :giggle:. I love Monza, love seeing the cars on the track there attacking the Lesmos and Parabolica and the speeds the reach with all the downforce off, just as I do Spa.

I wonder if, when Albon returns to Williams after is operation, Williams will keep De Vries and wave farewell to Latifi. Although De Vries had a wobble which he said was due to him pressing a button which altered the brake balance, I thought he did pretty well today.

Dave

Talking of someone doing well. I meant to mention last week that JP Montoya’s son drove in F3 for the first time last weekend, standing in for someone. He did exceptionally well in both races.
Someone to watch for the future.

As in he got into Q2 when Latifi didnt and was 0.1sec off Latifi P3 time. Think that qualifies as a shoe in for 2023 at the very least. Finance may play apart though.

Well for me this weekend was all about 2 drivers. Nyck de Vries and Will Power.
The first for his stellar F1 debut, and the second for securing the IndyCar title at the last race of the season.

Well, that was another fiasco in a long run of incompetent fiascos. Six laps to go, then finish behind a safety car, Unless they are going to apply the rules evenly, then it isn't really worth watching.

It seemed to me that the safety car could have been on track a lap earlier to gather up the field, and might have been withdrawn so the final lap could have been run under green, though by the time the track was clear on the penultimate lap there wouldn't have been time to let lapped cars pass the safety car before the restart.

However, race control has far more information than than me watching it on the telly so I'm not going to second guess the decisions as there may have been issues they were aware of that a TV viewer wouldn't have been..

But, if they'd let the race restart, Max might have been pipped at the post...
