Dont talk daft Barry! Its a brill photo that! The whole point of this thread is NATURAL beauty! :)

Love the idea, but I will have to seriously work toward posting a pic of myself though

I think I can honestly say that in the past years no more pics have been taken of yours truly. Ah well that's the added benefit of always being the one carrying the camera isn't it???

Three big babies and sadly a recent missed one, have left me with quite the flubby tummy. And ah well, I love food too much as well :D

But I'll work towards the picture!

Hey Dee and All

In post 12 of this thread I linked to a petition.

Well the result from it is in:
-------------------------------------------------
Read the Government’s response

Helping young people feel positive about who they are is very important and it is right that, through education, we build up students’ confidence and self-esteem as well as expand their knowledge.

The Government shares the concerns you raise and I trust you’ll be pleased to hear that we are currently legislating to ensure that Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education will be made compulsory in schools from September 2011 to ensure everyone benefits from these lessons.

If you are not familiar with these classes, it’s worth knowing that PSHE education covers a range of issues young people face growing up today such as how to lead healthier lifestyles, body image and health issues (this includes understanding the mental and emotional wellbeing of individuals, using basic and emergency first aid and developing awareness of sexually transmitted diseases and infections). Most importantly, the sessions provide an opportunity for students to develop their confidence as well.

You may also be interested to know that the course includes a personal wellbeing study programme that deals with body image, and specifically eating disorders. This is frequently used by teachers as a springboard for discussion about the role of the media in these issues.

Because we are expanding PSHE education in schools, we are currently reviewing the guidance we provide schools with in order to support their teaching. We are working with specialists and leading organisations such as the PSHE Association and with colleagues in the National Healthy Schools Programme to ensure it covers issues that are relevant to young people today.

As part of the process of introducing PSHE as a statutory subject in 2011, we will be consulting publicly later this year about what young people will learn including on body image (Programmes of Study). We will take into account the views of signatories to this petition alongside other contributions to the consultation, and we would welcome further input from any other interested parties so that their views feed in to the content of the guidance we provide to young people and schools.

We are also pleased that Gok Wan is meeting the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls, to discuss his ideas about PSHE education and body confidence issues in person. We look forward to what we trust will be a productive meeting.
-------------------------------------------

Personally I am surprised and happy that a result has been posted. A lot of the schools around here do PSHE and I am glad the Gov are making it a compulsory subject with its own curriculum to teach.

Thanks to everyone who signed up (y)

I got the same email! Thanks for posting the results :D

We did good! \o/

Thank you kindly Jean and Dee.

I used to hate my freckles when I was younger but I guess they go with the green eyes ;)

It's just a shame it's taken me until 54 to feel comfortable about my body even though I thank heavens for lycra these days

Gok Wan would be proud of this thread :D

Gok Wan would be proud of this thread :D

I agree...I have seen a few of his shows recently and the changes he is able to bring about, just through teaching folk to be proud of their bodies not ashamed, is fantastic. No cosmetic surgery, no uber-expensive clothes either, (after all, the aim is to get naked) just bags of love and support, which brings about a massive change in their self confidence. He genuinely seems to want to help...not just make good TV.

As for taking shots of myself.......I'm not ready for that yet, but well done to all those who have. Ill keep following this thread with interest.

Well here's another one :D

This is my picture for this week's 52 - Present.

And it doesn't get much more naked than that ;)

I too love Gok's show and that has helped me to love my body, because it's the only one I've got

Saw this in your fiddytwo and I will echo what I said there. Simply awesome and confident SP.

Well done that lady!

OK, I've read through the original 'natural beauty' thread as well as this one and, apart from the fact that the picture posters are all very brave, the thing that has struck me is what feelings the threads have bought out for me.
I have always been very consious of my body, I've never really liked it. I absolutely never 'show it off' in any way, be it shorter sleeve t-shirts that show more arm or tighter tops that have been the fashion lately that really show the physique lying under them. I see myself as skinny and 'featureless', theres nothing interesting or 'manly' about my body, I look nothing like the film stars or poster boys that girls swoon over and guys strive to look like. I fail to see anything attractive about my body.
All that said, I don't hate myself or get really upset about it. I've just accepted that this is how I look and I'm very grateful that someone else likes it.

I have taken a shot to add to the thread but I need to work up some courage to post it, and also, I thought I'd check what is acceptable to post in here - is a male in underwear safe to post?

there was some programme on tv last night banging on about attractiveness and how men are attracted to curves........they then showed models without a curve in sight....very unheathy
you girls look great

Of course! There are naked ladies in here, hence the NSFW tag! Cant wait to see it, and hope we've all helped you someway? :)

Dont they just! Very proud thread starter right here!:clap::clap::clap:

OK, here we go, this has taken a lot of 'phsycing up' for and I'm hoping there will be a feeling of relief after I hit the 'submit' button rather than panic!

Brilliant shot burningflan and I know many men who would be bloody proud to have a torso like yours. You can be proud of how you look and certainly don't hesitate to wear whatever you want!

Well done - and I really must contribute to this - got to work out where on earth one can take a photo in my house (light is a problem and I don't yet have a proper flash)... I will try honestly; I know you're all thinking that I keep saying that

Using natural light from a window is a winner Kather. (y)

Good luck.

Bloody well done!!!! Brilliant shot!

How do you feel? :D

Thanks, I think it's one of the better photos I've taken, which is odd as I didn't take much care seting it up!?

I feel kind of free knowing I managed to post up a picture showing my body to potentially thousands of people. It's sort of like taking a plaster off, the thought of it is bad but if you rip it off quickly it's over with before you realise and the pain isn't anywhere near what you expected. Does that make sense?

Thank you for your comment, perhaps I'll be a shade braver in the future.

As for the photo, it was taken without a flash, in my bedroom. Setup was curtains drawn (they let light through though so provided a soft light), room light on (single bulb in paper shade) and a lamp on the floor just out of shot to the left of the image. No need for fancy equipment here

The best photos are spontaneous :)

And of course you dont need fancy equipment, hell most of my Real Beauty shots were quick and dirty... just like the photographer

Betty, I am gutted that I've missed this thread up until now :(

In September 2007 I was admitted to the eating disorders unit of Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. At the time I was 35 years old weighed 6 stones and 8 pounds. I had suffered with Anorexia Nervosa for over 9 years at the time and at lost just over 5 stones during that time. As you can imagine, I have never been happy with my body image and one too many dents to my self esteem lead to the horrors I went through.

Now, nearly 12 years after my "diet" started I am a much healthier 9 stone 10 pounds and am living my life again. I am working full-time AND working as a professional wedding photographer. When I was at the worst of my illness I didn't have the energy or strength to do part-time work, let alone two jobs!!

It was the staff in the eating disorders ward that encouraged me to consider professional photography and I certainly owe them so many "thank yous" that I never know where to start. One thing I am determined to do at some point is to combine my love of photography with the experiences I have gone through so that I can highlight the dangers of E.Ds and that men as well as women can suffer from them. A suppose an illustrated book would be most appropriate.

Before I go, I haven't taken a picture of myself for this thread. But here's one my girlfriend (and greatest support) took a couple of months ago.

Ta for reading

All the best,

Ryan

Thats a gorgeous photo Ryan :)

Sounds like you've been through your share of problems, but a big well done from me for getting through it, inspiring

Well done mate on your success story. Just shows that dispite the hand youve been given you can change things around if you want it bad enough. You look really well in the pic and the book is a great idea, you could maybe help on support websites with images as well.

Nice one Ryan, and a real insight into the man behind the camera.

So glad it is all going well for you now matey - you truly are talented and the staff did so well pushing you in the tog direction. I think it is really fab that you are planning to give back to them too - and a testament to your character. If you ever need a less professional hand with the pics you know where I am!

Truly inspiring matey - especially for me as a hobbyist looking up.

Real Beauty Betty? It is the person behind the camera and not just a 2d pinup. The people here in these shots are far more beautiful than anything in the media today.

Congratumalations to all that have taken part with pics so far, keep it up peeps (y)

Thanks chap. I really appreciate it. That's a good idea about support sites - I'll look into it.

Thanks a lot Matt, I really appreciate it. Never considered myself to be "inspirational" before but if I can help others along the way I'll do my best.

I certainly owe a great deal of gratitude to the ward staff - for getting me to eat for one thing!!

It's funny you mention lending me a hand. I'm going to start a thread on the very thing in the next day or two. Don't miss it as you may be just what I'm after :)

Thanks again.
