WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Wamt. Being quoted £199 for an oil change yesterday and having to pick up my jaw from the floor. Anyway phoned around and they all seem to be like that. So called today and now they are quoting me £345 with a straight face and saying the chap was wrong quoting me just £199.

Unbelievable, what on earth does this VW Golf run on, liquid gold?

I'm really annoyed.

Nowt yet but the cat'll be yowling all the way to her hotel this afternoon. :(

Yes they always seem to know whats about to happen too
when we go to put them in the baskets

WHAT!!! Can't exactly remember but I think VW charge about £60 for the job.

People not understanding why a judge might award a woman a "modest" amount of money to buy a "small house" from her multi-multi-millionaire ex-husband for raising his child on her own and without child support for the last 13 years, and screaming "but what about men's rights!11" about it even though he lives in a castle with his new family and she and the kid live in the caravan he left them in.

If it were a modest amount of money after a modest amount if time, maybe.
Neither are the case.

The judge recommended a "modest" amount of money and now it's going to the family court to sort out the mess, no money has actually been awarded. She asked for 1.7 million because you always ask for the highest amount possible in any lawsuit. The reason this all came about was because she had problems getting back-child support from him so had to use a loophole in the divorce laws in order to force the issue. Your child could be 48 but you are still owed child support from the moment one party left up until the child leaves education or is 19.

There has been some really bad editorialising and banner waving in the press about this in order to push various agendas, and although the divorce laws do need looking at this is simply not the poster case for the movement.

Do the oil change your self = cheap as chips

If it wasn't a leased car or a new one I would. I may have to test the EU Block Exemption.

Don't quickfit do oil changes?
Noooooo! Fleeeeeee! Short answer: yes they probably do. long answer: Oh sir, did you know your brake discs are warped/your shock absorbers are leaking/other made up bull.

Find a local independent VAG group specialist (or any decent indpendent for just an oil change really) unless you particularly want to keep main dealer stamps in the service book. Maybe try punching your post code in on this site www.goodgaragescheme.com

Doubt they'd try that on a new car that's possibly under warranty.
My son got a new tyre from quickfit two weeks ago, and the guy pointed out an issue with the brake caliper, and when he told me about it, my response was the same as yours.
Last week his car failed the mot as it required a new brake caliper.
It seems that some of them do actually know what they're talking about.

With modern cars getting the oil changed properly can be critical. A lot of places use those hoovers so there is too much crap oil left in. The ecoboost and multi air type engines must have the correct oil or it is leads to premature engine failure of various kinds. It's hard enough getting a main dealer to do servicing correctly.

The leasing agreement also may specify main dealer servicing only and that can have its own penalties.

A lot of the dealer backed warranties are basically ignoring the block emption rules and dictating all manner of exclusions. Alfa have a 5 year warranty but if you read the small print the last 3 years pretty much say if you don't get it serviced on time via a franchised dealer you can get lost if anything goes wrong.

You'd have to check with VW on their policy and the leasing company. I'd just get it to a main dealer and be done with it. If you have a car in warranty you're pretty much stuck with main dealers as if there are any problems with the car you are more likely to get them fixed FOC with a dealer backed history than with an independent.

I don't think £200 for an annual service is that expensive. It may also include other things such as bodywork inspections to keep perforation warranty intact etc.

I was willing to go for £200. However being quoted £349 is getting silly. Saying that I've now got it confirmed that my next service after that won't be for another 20K miles. So perhaps I need to take a bite of humble pie and just go for it as in that context it is not bad.

After all it is the 300Bhp Golf R :)

Ha result. Someone from the U.S. VW forum pointed me to a London dealer. I just checked the price for my Golf R and it is £149. Super happy, that is a lot of beer money left over.

WAMT: Contractors who asked for somebody to be at the property for 9am then at 9:30am call to ask where I am, I tell them I am at the property - It transpires they had gone to the wrong address!

Then to make matters worse they say they will "try" and fit me in at some point today, I simply replied that if they were not here within the hour then don't bother coming at all

I like your style.

A service on my Focus only cost £149 and that's main dealer price too.

Comic Relief:rolleyes:

Bloody photographers leaving sodding footprints all over the fardling beach then getting in my shot! Actually, it didn't AMMAA since there was plenty of virgin sand and it was easy enough to get low enough to lose the other photographers behind the chunks of ice. It was a shame that the weather wasn't more cooperative but since that's beyond anyone's control (and, let's face it, there are far worse things to get annoyed about than the weather!!!) I'll suffer in silence!View attachment 32713

WAMT - managing to drag meself up early so I could get to work early and then leave a bit early tonight only to spend 40 minutes covering 3 b***ard miles, before finally arriving hour and ten minutes later. So actually I'll have to leave late tonight. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::mad::mad::mad:

Should have got up earlier. ;)

This annoyed me over the weekend...

I went to bed a bit earlier than usual. After a bit of a sleep, I woke up and as I was wide awake, I decided to get up, have a shower and make a cup of tea. It was still dark so I assumed it was about 5:30 (I usualy get up at 6:00).

Had the shower, made the tea - and whilst I was drinking it I looked at the clock on the oven.... 3:00 am! I must have got up at about 2:30.

Steve.

That's a bugger :(
But just FYI....It's no longer dark @ 5.30am :)

It's still in the neighbourhood of dark. Sunrise today was 6:17.

Steve.

Sunrise might have been, but it was plenty light at 5.40 :)
(In Kent, anyway).

Well it would be in Kent, its nearer the sunrise being on the east coast.

Driving along just pulling out to overtake a car then... Crack a bullet hole style break in the windscreen and 8 inch crack.
Boom £100 out out the donkey fun fund :(

Heard this on the radio this morning and I remembered just how much it annoys me -

16.54 is "sixteen point five four", NOT "sixteen point fifty four"
