weekly Superpippo's 52's for 2012 -Week 52 Busy added THE END

I like your take on the theme of "Age" Allan. I particularly like the high contrast feel that you have brought out in your processing, lovely and sharp too, good work! Iain

Really nice detail on your hand works really well in b+w

Thanks Allan

If you happen to be at home now the Addams family is on Film 4 right now! Thing is a disembodied hand in the film and series.

Missed it but see the connection to disembodiment

Thanks Iain. I am quite pleased with it. Compared with the original, the pp has made a vast difference.

Week 43 Spread

#1 Taken in Berlin in the garden of the Jewish Museum

#2 Spitfire replica at Fairhaven Lake

I know that it is on a stick :D but to me it still fits the theme.

Residents of Lytham and St Annes raised £6,500 to buy Spitfire W3644 in 1941. It was hit off the Devon coast while returning from escorting bombers over France. Sadly, it was shot down and residents were especially touched as its pilot – Sgt Alan Lever-Ridings – had family connections with the area. His mother and grandparents lived in St Annes and a number of his surviving relatives attended the unveiling of the nine metre (30ft) long Spitfire replica earlier this year

Mineral, Dark, Time, Body - bang on theme each and every one! Particularly dark!

Liquid - brilliant contrast between the background and the leaves. Nice and clear capture.

Up - good interpretation and capture of movement.

Duo - seed pods! I have not seen these before, very strange!

Liquid - agree with the comments, the blue makes the shot.

Change - the light trio is good and on theme.

Natural - nice bunch of mushrooms, agree with the gardening comments but its a natural shot of natural things so meets the theme!

Age - great shot, B&W makes the shot.

Spread - #1 this is great and love the theme interpretation. #2 like this one too and would have been ideal if you had not taken #1 :)

Together - good idea, would like to see the whole thing I think.

Good shots!! People are really impressing me with what they are doing! (y)

Thanks Alex for taking the time to go thro them all - marathon job :)

On Together I was not too sure what to do. I had a lot of nice natural light and tried it whole at first but that gave me trouble with the surroundings interfering. Then I decided to use the macro lens and get as tight on the eyes as poss. I think that it is better than the others that I shot. Thanks for considering that issue.

Also pleased that you liked Spread#1. I got and shot the idea within 48 hours but then i have got concerned that it had turned out well enough and delayed posting. Meanwhile glorious day here today so went out and got the Spitfire as an alternative.

Hi Alan,

Looking at spread #1 on my phone it looks a tad soft, but that could be the teeny screen. I think it works well for the theme.
#2, who cares that it's on a stick! I like the composition with the sun hiding low! (y)

Together, the close crop works for me and I like the highlights in the eyes. I think I'd like to see the kitten in focus too as they're together, difficult I know with a macro lens.

Thanks Marsha. I thought that the Spitfire would appeal to you. :)

Macro can be tough but I wanted to get as much as poss without a significant crop. Afterwards i looked at DOFMaster and it calculated that I had 0.04ins in front and 0.04 ins behind the focus point in focus. Not much room for error. :D

Hi Alan

Spread - Like that, would be nice to see a bigger version to get a full effect :)

Together - I actually like the crop and the dof, still says together for me, liking the texture the directional light is helping bring out

Thanks DK. Bigger version of what?

Love number 1 of spread and I also dont mind the close crop of together and the side light works well

Hi, Spread, cracker, well composed with good symmetry. I went there a white ago, quite unnerving experience walking thought the gaps and I felt. Quite overwhelmed at times.

Together is nice, just the oof kittens ear des draw my eye,

Cheers.

Hi Alan

Spread #1....beautiful , love it , get it framed & in the wall.....can't nail why I like it but it works in every way for me

Strugling to get the connection between Spread & Spitfire....but then I can be incredibly dim at times:LOL:

Together....cute ornament ,would prefer to see all of it though , nice tones, the slightly oof ear doesn't draw my eye in fact didn't notice it until I read Andy's comments:)

Spread - #1 is fabulous. I really great take on the theme.

Together - Nice one. My eye keeps being drawn to that reflection in the eye.

Thanks Peter. #1 certainly seems to have gained a lot of good comments

Thanks Allan. ditto above

Cheers Andy. Berlin is such a great place to go. Some moving tributes to war and tyranny. We have been a few times and it always come to my mind that someone in their nineties who lives in the eastern part of the city has, in their lifetime, gone thro the depression, the rise of Hitler, the war, communism, the erection of the wall, the removal of the Wall and reunification. Some journey

thanks Lynne - pleased that you like spread#1 - the model was pretty pleased with the outcome !!
The plane was just the Spread of the wings (and I did not have to walk far to shoot it).
Some issues with the cats so maybe one for a reshoot.

Hi Alan, trying to catch up after a few difficult weeks at work. Please let me know if I've missed any of yours here.

Natural; lovely shot. I like the DoF and the exposure.

Age; clever interpretation, and very very nicely composed. B&W suits it very well.

Spread 1 is great; one of your best I'd say. Love it. Spread 2 is a nice shot, but I don't get how it fits the theme?

Together; I don't normally like photo's of ornaments all that much, but this one works extremely well and fits the theme fantastically!

Thanks Mark for your kind comments and taking the trouble to catch up with me.
Spread #1 has received many favourable comments - #2 was merely the spread of the wings.

Thanks Michael.

You have hit the nail on the head with your last comment in that I was trying to get the 'pack' rather than the 'scrum'. That is why I think that I had so much difficulty.
Half the time the ref was in the way shouting his 'touch, pause, engage' Then the 2 packs would be so close that i could not get any facial expressions. Or thay would just be standing up waiting to join forces. So what I thought was a simple idea had all sorts of frustrations :bang:

Good take on the theme Alan, I appreciate your difficulties in capturing this. Why is it that when we set out with what we think is an easy or straightforward idea sometimes is just the opposite? ;)
Technically very good, as mentioned above, you've handled the exposure well. I particularly like the vivid colours in the kit. Good work (y)

A good shot of the Fylde RU pack. I've shot quite a few RL (much better) games in the past and I know how difficult it can be. I think you've done really well here. Exposure and focus appears spot on.

Thanks for the comments Iain

Thanks Peter. I appreciate your comments with your background. I agree that RL much better but Fylde is 5 minutes walk from house and fairly relaxed setting so quite a decent afternoon in the open air. Also the crowd is not too 'Uniony'

Great shot Alan! I like the colours and exposure. I'd maybe have liked to see the shape of the scrum a little more, but it works extremely well as it is.

Thanks Mark. I take your point. Perhaps I was being a bit too literal with 'pack' so tried to exclude 'scrum'. But i agree that scrum shots are better for giving the feel to the sport.

Simple yes, but effective! I like it a lot. My only crit would be that the pens look a little soft, but it might actually be jpeg artefacts?

I bet you had great fun doing the picture; have you finished it yet?!

Jpeg artefacts are the distortion you can get in heavily compressed jpeg shots. If you zoom in on your image above, you'll see them.

This one made me smile. The subject matter makes it work for me. Having the paper on an angle helps composition. I agree with Mark about the pens though.

Nice one Alan, I like it, made me smile too. A bit more dof on the pens would help.

Hi Alan

great simple take on Color but effective , good placement , whites white , pens as mentioned but overall..... (y) from me mister

Thanks all for looking and commenting. Feels good when an image can make people smile.

Age – Good BW conversion with excellent tonal range
Spread – Like your interpretation for theme with both and think #2 would have been my choice. Lighting handled very well.
Together – Works for me. Like the crop as it is
Pack – Good shot and typical of the ref to be in the way.
Art – Definitely on theme and colours seem just right

Hi Alan.

Colour I like, but somehow I think it needs to be less clearly a radiator to really work. Maybe a closer shot with a shallow DoF, to make it more abstract?

Shadow is brilliant! I love that you've left the hand in shot yet limited the shadow to the glasses, the composition is unusual but very very effective, and the graduated shadow through the lenses, and the exposure, is perfect. I really can't fault this one!
